And there's absolutely no guarantee that West Brom stay up with Big Sam, they are in a group of about 4 or 5 (I think Brighton will ease away eventually) in big trouble, but Fulham look like they've got something about them after a very inauspicious start, and Burnley look like they're turning the corner somewhat. On paper, they're doomed

They were phenomenal as an expansion side under Tata Martino (unsurprisingly given his pedigree) and then suffered an abysmal drop under Frank De Boer. This looks like it might have the potential to see them back to something approaching their original identity, which will be fun to watch if so.

Graham Stack has gained his fair share of managerial experience with us ;)

Exactly, for all Ivic's faults (and it seems most of his detractors on here at least recognise there's something about him as a manager), we really need someone who can guarantee us promotion--a) nobody can do that, and b) we're not in a position to be taking on anyone other than a cheap punt

No up and coming manager whose stock is rising is going to want to work for our trigger happy owners, so we can look forward to another has-been plucked from some European dole queue or, at best, someone who has enjoyed modest recent success with a small-town team in the Romanian third division.
Personally, I'd give the job to Deeney as player/manager and get someone older who knows the club in to help him - Boothroyd (part time so he can keep his FA job) or even Luther? Gibbs or Jackett? Robert Page? Tony Coton?

That’s just not true, more likely that is the only type of manager we can get. Ivic was precisely that, a young up and coming manager.

A job with us us stepping stone and there are plenty of managers who will jump at the chance, but it’s highly unlikely to hurt your reputation if you do poorly.

If we sack Ivic he’ll be able to come up with a list as long as his arm as to why it didn’t workout.

It was a slight exaggeration - the Israeli Premier League is probably on a par with, say, the Scottish first division, not the Romanian third division

Yeah, I guess it depends on your definition. I don’t think we’re that unattractive to many managers though. The only types that wouldn’t touch us are people like Eddie Howe, and perhaps a few old school types that don’t agree with things like the Pearson situation. Otherwise I don’t see a downside to managing us unless you absolutely want control of more aspects than we’ll ever give a manager.

Although I wasn't thinking particularly of Howe (I reckon he's waiting for Moyes to f**k up so he can get the West Ham job) that's really what I was trying to say. The downside to managing us would be working for a bloke who kicks you out as soon as results take a dip. I still haven't forgiven Gino for firing Javi

We've sacked far too many managers to attract anyone decent, we're going to be stuck with complete and utter dross for the foreseeable future.

If we want anyone decent we’ll have to pay for them, but we won’t. Money talks and most managers will take the security of the best contract on offer, irrelevant though, as it won’t happen as it’s not our approach.

But QSF aside we normally go for speculative punts so it’s not like anything will be different going forward than how it’s always been.

Of course, didn't affect Gracia who got a job at Valencia who are a far bigger club than ourselves. The Watford job only really has upsides as strange as that sounds - do well and your stock rises and likely see's you as a PL manager. Do badly, you get sacked and the owner/club take the flack.

I will have a bash. I will go old school 4-2-4 so goals will be flooding in both ends.

"Knows the club" has to be one of the biggest myths in football, how much has the club changed since the last time any of those people had anything to do with us?

    Bang on.

I'm not saying Ivic should stay, but without wholesale change a new manager will give us nothing more than a small new manager bounce. It's highly unlikely a decent manager will even consider coming here unless wholesale changes are part of the deal.

I've purposely used the term manager and not head coach. We need someone in control of all footballing aspects.

True - the club's changed but the fans haven't and I'm sure supporters would get behind any of those mentioned far more than another Euro journeyman

West Ham are doing alright at the moment though; I could imagine Howe at Palace once Hodgson retires (which can't be too far away).

Howe would be up for that, but surely Arsenal would try for a more manager with more proven success at the top after their failings with Arteta?
