I'm making a few assumptions here but I'm presuming Murray has joined on the basis that Troy is going, if so then I think he is a good signing to be the experienced guy to help show a few of the youngsters/imports the tricks of the championship and score a few goals.

I suspect he will score a similar amount of goals as Troy would if he stayed next season, but, I'm assuming we think that getting a bit of a fee and one of our highest earners of the books and replacing him with someone who will be cheaper (surely) but offers a similar return is the right thing to do, albeit older but only on loan. This also gives us a chance to mould the team without having Troy the legend looming in the background.

Assuming he does go I think a move will be good for Troy as well, having to prove himself and fight for a place in the team somewhere new will probably sharpen him up quite a bit in a way that staying here will never do. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes elsewhere and we see a better Troy next season with a reasonable return of goals.

If any of this is right then generally happy with this signing.

What's his xG, pH and all that like? I'm surprised it hasn't been posted already by the COGs as this is usually the go to 'fact'.

That's last season though. He's presumably moved now because of what Potter has told him to expect this coming season. And if that was being bottom of the pecking order and only being considered a bench option on rare occasions, a move here would be a definite improvement even if he's a third choice rotation option.

A one year loan also makes a lot of sense as it buys time for Cucho to get his work permit sorted and we can also keep an eye on how Ryan Cassidy performs for Accrington Stanley to see if he is a viable option for next year,

Source? Assume it's more than the quote from Potter that Murray wants regular football, because that's pretty much what any manager says for any player leaving on loan. Doesn't always work like that, though.

As I said in a previous post, he's here, like all first team players, to fight for a starting spot. If he's starting regularly, it means he's performing so that's a win for us. If not, he's a decent option off the bench.

Personally I think a direct quote from his previous manager saying he wants more football is enough of a source.

An excellent signing. Some of our young players - like Foster, Cathcart, Dawson, Cleverley, Deeney etc - will benefit from having someone with Murray's experience around the place

I’ve mentioned before that my best mate is a Brighton fan and that I go and see them a couple of times a season with him and a group of other fans he’s close with and I subsequently know. I’m in a WhatsApp group with them and asked the question of them and their opinion...

Almost to a man they’ve said he’s aged quite well and adapted to his growing years rather than just letting time get on top of him and try to be something he’s not. They said he’s not the fastest but never has been and is more of a nuisance player who buys a ton of FK’s and penalties and his specialty is being able to get his body between the ball and the defender. Very strong but likes to go down easily too - type of striker physical defenders hate. They said he’s very very good in the air too.

I don't understand all the hate he and the Pozzos are getting. We are in the Champo now and also have to cut our cloth. An established, albeit older player, who has been proven at this and PL level. is good in the air, wins set pieces and can even score from them is something not to be sniffed at. We were absolutely shocking from set pieces last season. It is a low risk signing also and wont cost much, Id prefer him to Deeney and Gray if Im honest. As you have said the team he has come from rate him.

Experience and guile can more than make up for and often prove a good foil to youth.
Plus by all accounts he is a great asset in terms of leadership and a good influence on the teams he is in. He also has a decent work ethic; something sorely missing last season. We haven't signed him on a 5 year deal.

If we had gotten him pre premiership days, last time in the champ, on a season long loan from amid table prem team we would have been pleased. Well guess what, we are back in the championship and we start on zero points like every other bugger. If fit I am sure he will make a positive contribution.

I think his age is the big concern for most. If he is adapting his game to his age, then I think it’s a fair signing. If he ages badly then it will go down as a weird one.

Despite the optimism from others, a soon to be 37 year old striker signed up just doesn't excite me. A player signed past 32 don't excite me let alone this one.

No I understand you completely. But he's with us now and deserves our support. As plenty on here have said he may not be the fastest but has good movement across the line, finds space in the box and very good in the air. I've come around that he's going to be a very valuable option up top he brings enormous experience. Good DeeKnee replacement.

He's a really good signing and I'm not worried by his age at all. We're getting a very clever, experienced centre forward who IMO can do a much better job than Troy in leading the line for us. If the latter can drop a bit deep and play a similar role that he played with Ighalo in the first Flores season, we'll have a very exciting partnership up front that will make monkeys out of most defences.

He'll need to be looked after because of his age, obviously. Expect to see him coming off for someone like Gray a lot, but if we use him sensibly he'll be one hell of an asset this coming season.
