I’ve heard a few people saying that their devices have been playing up recently, which you can just put down to everyone being on the network at the same time working from home or whatever.

But yeah, the TV turning itself on is a bit spooky.

Presumably in the absence of any £££ from the government they'd rather take their chances with catching Covid-19 than getting £90 odd a week from universal credit.

Edit: Just seen that “#shutthesites” is trending on Twitter in response to this. It seems construction sites are still open.

Considering that Twitter trends haven't exactly worked during this crisis, I doubt it'll make much difference.

We supply a few builders merchants, mostly in London and we have had sod all orders in for two weeks now. We’re temporarily shutting down tomorrow. I guess it’s a race to get a lot of already started projects to a point where they can be left and exposed to the elements for a month or two.

    Ring fence...

    Graham Simpson/Mark Ashton style?!

It will probably be the over 70s who are the worse as they certainly won't want to be stuck indoors all day every day.

    "In our day etc"...

Least younger people can use the various technology things available.

Everyone will just run or walk to the shop passing on germs etc.

Best wishes and get well soon.
On arriving at the club yesterday I was alarmed to find the clubhouse open. The last directive from the LTA was to keep them shut.
Not only that but two imbeciles had opened the bar and were onto their third drink by the look of the bottles on the table.
    They looked very sheepish.
It transpires that one,Steve Brent ( a WHU fan with Alec Guiness/Professor Marcus style teeth) isn't even a member this year!
    Unfathomable behaviour.

  11. My phone started playing "Sing Sing Sing" by Duke Ellington at top volume this morning. Couldn't find an app that was playing it, had to power it off.

Strange. My phone alarm switched to Louis Armstrong this morning. I was in a panic for a moment as I thought I was late, but I had All the time in the World.

  16. I went to the shop this morning and got a text message not to go out. Is the establishment using phones to track movement or was it a coincidence? Anyone else get the same?

Wife was due to her role and we have same symptoms starting 24 hrs apart. Important thing is she got it first so I can use her sense of guilt for many years to come. Now fighting over what to watch on main TV. I’m 45 mins into “Noah”. It feels like a lifetime esp given I know what’s going to happen. Looks like there might be some sort of flood coming ...?

  18. Sadiq Khan on LBC this morning saying some damning things tbh. He argued at COBRA for construction sites to be shut down, Johnson believes workers can keep 2m apart and that the economy is more important. What occurs to me is that an awful lot of 'lost' economic activity will be postponed rather than lost. If we get through this I am hoping for a bumper 2021 for the cycling holiday business (note for ZZTop - I am getting an Irish passport, thanks grandad). Economies of scale means if this comes about, I'll earn more in one year than in two normal years combined. All this construction work is not going to go away. People are going to buy the cars and electronics that they are putting off. A lot of people who can either keep working or not reliant on reduced wages will have a lot of money to spend, saved from not going on holiday and eating out.

I'm not an economist and will fully accept it when gaping holes in this argument are pointed out!

I got it too. it's pure coincidence. All phones have the capability to distribute major public announcements/security alerts etc. Baked into the operating system.

My oldish but normally reliable 3 year old phone turned itself off & rebooted unannounced, without warning a few days ago, something that I can't remember ever happening before, but I am putting it down that it was just the battery was low, around 10%. Now keeps popping up to do an Android upgrade every day.

Assume the battery meter is not quite correct. Not going to do any Android upgrade.

All operators sent out an SMS with a link from the government, that wouldn't need an upgrade.

I think Sadiq Khan has had a shocker reducing the tube services so quickly down to Sunday service to save money. Should have waited until lock down and also provisions made for self employed. People choosing between eating and virus are going to work if they have to and Khan slashing the underground just rams them all together. Very poor from the Mayor.

Saw the alert part in action when I was in New York about 15 months ago. Emergency alert popped up on my iPhone device advising there was a missing high risk person that had been last seen near where I was. Quite an interesting piece of tech if used correctly.

Good that you were mentally prepared for it in advance. Keep it up

May I suggest have a couple of whisky/Vodka shots today to kill lurgy off from within. Old remedy. Seems to work for me.

I've been doing it anyway as a precuation.
When this is all over I reckon there will be largely 2 groups of thinking emerging.

The group that learned consumption does not make them happier & will cut back & perhaps look to live more simple lives.

The YOLO group that just want to live for the here & now, buy & consume everything they desire & want, holidays galore etc on all the credit that will become available.

  24. Shocking about the dead bodies found in care homes in Spain, I read the workers just stopped going to work when the outbreak happened.

  25. Agree, but if you had listened, you would have heard that they have a huge number of staff either sick or self isolating, and they haven't got capacity to massively increase services again. But hey, what about construction siites?

I recently left TfL after well over a decade and he's run it into the ground with his fares freezes. Loads of projects and improvements have been canned with recent events and the drop in income. There wasn't enough money before and there will almost certainly be job losses.

Still, got him in office so he won't care. He reportedly had a massive hissy fit because he couldn't stop the train companies that operate in the oyster are putting their prices up, showing how little he grasps how the transport infrastructure in London works.

Keep us informed then. When you say just like flu - presumably you have the cough, fever and feeling grotty. Any chest troubles or problems breathing? I'm guessing you're fairly young and in good health?

Good luck with it all. At least you should be one of the blessed immune in a week or so...

    OK.
I'm 56 and in reasonable health, no underlying issues.
Mrs TuT is 18. No, she's 52 and has asthma which has been under reasonable control with no issues in the last 10 years, otherwise reasonable heath.
Yes we both have fever, aches, bad headache, had a sore throat and now an irritating but infrequent dry cough, not chesty. No sneezes, minimal runny nose.
No chest or breathing problems which of course is the real health/life issue but that comes after a 5-7 days apparently if you've not recovered by then. Feels like flu would.

One of our customers is a decent size builders merchants with a few branches in London. They contacted all of their staff last night telling them to stay at home for three weeks. They woke up to the news that Jewson, Travis Perkins, Buildbase etc are doing the same and so changed their minds and decided to call everyone in to work. Vans queuing as far as the eye can see to get into their main store in north London apparently.
