It isn’t just Deeney. There were several situations in that first half where a little more positivity could have provided a goal. The only one that was really good was the run and shot by Doucoure.
Trying to defend with our back five is like playing "whack-a-mole" with moronic mistakes - even if four of the five are playing well, it's simply inevitable that one of them will eventually pop-up to gift the opposition a goal. Then in the next games, the player that just gave away a goal will suddenly start playing well again, but one of the other four will take their turn to do it instead. Foster has made that exact same mistake an unbelievable amount of times over the last year. Also, how many times have we bottled a gilt-edged chance away at big opposition within the first few minutes? edit: oh what a surprise, Foster caught in no man's land yet again.
The technology stinks full stop. It's turning people away from the sport. I thought football needed it but we absolutely don't. Maybe give a ref a smartphone to look at decisions a second time or something if he has been looking the wrong way.
Magnificent performance from Deulofeu. Twice gave the ball away that led to them scoring. The third. A sloppy casual return not even checking Hughes had run past him. Needs a kick up the backside. Thinks he is Messi but is anything but.
Schar handball: not given Alli handball: not given Djenepo handball: not given Couldn’t miss one of ours though, could they? Quickest VAR decision I’ve seen all season. They shot their wad at Stockley Park when they had the chance to disallow a Watford goal.
It is a 3-0 game though, that’s the score line When you have an attack that can’t score goals and a defence that can’t stop them, ‘unfair’ scorelines stop being an anomaly and start being par for the course
Typical of our season! Missed chances then gift opposition a goal! VAR goes against us (*fairly this time ) then we just collapse. Oh well ....Liverpool next!! * Shame VAR ref has missed 3 previous handball goals against us before though in tight games we might have won .
I had to turn the game off. VAR should be making the game fairer. At the risk of sounding like HB1, all it's done for Watford this season is rub our noses in how f*cking audaciously the officials are willing to cheat on behalf of the bigger clubs.
The united 2nd looked offside in the build up. Nothing said about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They were more fluid and clinical when the attacks came. That is what a £60 million signing gets you. GD, Deeney, Pereyra and Doucoure all pretty naff second half IMO. Why Masina didn’t go to the line to stop Martial having an open net is beyond me. Our season and chances of staying up won’t be defined by these games but I hope it doesn’t; 1) kill our confidence 2) put so much pressure on the games against those around us that we just crumble pathetically like Watford would Nothings changed in the grand scheme of things though to be honest, we move. Well... Yes. Let's just hope we get an unfair win against Liverpool eh. I really thought we could get something here. Think we needed to as well.
Besides the many valid reasons for moaning at our deficiencies again, I don't suppose even those who still expect us to stay up had us down to get something from that, did they?! The biggest negative is that our goal difference took a bit of a hit. On the plus side, Sarr and Femenia should at least be back by the time we have a decent fixture again. We're still only 2 points from 16th.
In fairness that’s a very big positive. If we can avoid injuries for 11 games we’ve got a half decent chance of staying up. If we are going to face a lot of seasons like this one though I’m not certain I want to.
I really, really do hate this team. I'd like to say at least when we get relegated there will be a mass clear out and I won't ever have to watch the likes of Cathcart, Mariappa, Dawson, Deeney, Gray etc. play for us again, but they are exactly the horrendous, over the hill players our idiot board will presume will be excellent at the level down, as we inevitably get relegated again.
No it isn’t, but I just don’t want to see it repeatedly from the same player. And it’s been about 4 seasons now. We’re watford so most of our players will have flaws, I just can’t bare watching the same player doing the same things year after year.
This is my biggest concern about relegation as well I’ve already made peace with every other aspect of it
You forgot the one against Everton too. Four handball goals conceded which were not spotted. Today, it's reviewed to death until they see something. The whole thing stinks. The game is bent. Pure and simple.
Why were we playing such an open game after going behind? We reverted to how Javi played, bomb everyone forward and assume we'll score, but instead miss-place a pass and set up a counter attack for the opposition. -3 GD could be fatal at the end of the season.
The plan worked for the first half hour, but you simply can’t screw up as many chances as we did before a team like Man Utd works a move and lures us into the inevitable mistake we’re always capable of. Not that the team can have any confidence being the in lead does much for us either.
We all know it's exactly what will happen. All the useless cloggers kept on for their Championship "experience", ignoring the fact that they're all utterly s**t, a major part of the problem and past their "prime".
Also, if anything sums up where Deeney is now at as a footballer, it's that f**k up when he was clean through in the first few minutes. Defenders must absolutely love playing against him. If they're his height or taller they'll physically dominate him whilst we insist on hoofing it forward, he is probably the slowest striker in the league, doesn't really move, and needs half hour on the ball in front of goal. Quality.
I think everything depends on Sarr hitting his previous heights again fast, and staying fit. We don't have enough about us to score goals without him. His pace and directness create chances, he is fairly clinical and can whip a decent cross in. The biggest thing he brings to the team, though, is that he changes how the opposition plays, freeing up some space for others and taking pressure off our tinpot defence. The difference since he got injured is so ridiculously clear. So I think: Good Sarr - we stay up. Bad or injured Sarr - we're going down. Welbeck coming good could be an added curve ball bonus, but let's be honest we've seen no sign of it so far. Femenia coming back in is also important, I can't take much more of Dawson/mapps at RB. We need the next round of fixtures for our rivals to be kind to us, as Pool is likely a write-off. But after that, we do still have a good shot if Sarr can perform
Plenty of moaners on the shoutbox, funny how they all came out if the woodwork when utd scored. Deeney why didn't he hit it first time Why did Foster come out for the pen when plenty of defenders covering This game won't define the rest of the season. We are still in touch and remarkably still 5th favourites to go down. Sarr back for me is abig plus and to have cleverly and femenia back also a plus
