Had Deeney scored it would have been disallowed anyway because Foster had handled the ball earlier in the afternoon.
As someone mentioned on the wobby comments I’d question what the owners objective is with Watford and the reason they own the club. It definitely isn’t to compete in the PL, if that was the case we wouldn’t be in the position we are now and have such a poor squad. If it’s just to exist in the PL to make the numbers up and gobble up the TV revenue, than that’s not for me and not the reason I support Watford. I want the team to be as successful as possible but the PL just is not enjoyable. The current squad is my least favourite squad of my 20 years supporting the club and that says a lot considering I started supporting after the ITV Digital collapse when we nearly went bust and had to cobble a team together on a show string budget. Those teams always showed fight, courage and desire when technique and flair was missing. These should be the glory days... they really aren’t.
This squad was summed up in a second when Danny Welback ran onto the pitch clapping the home fans. Honestly. What kind of desire does that show for the team he is playing for?
What kind of desire did it show us signing him? If he signs for Bournemouth, we sit and laugh. Disgraceful waste of money.
This is true, but isn’t also true of pretty much every team that comes up from the Championship and stays for more than a couple of seasons?
I hear his contract was £80k a week if he was playing, £20k a week if he was injured. That shows that we knew he wasn’t in 100% good condition and likely to be sidelined again but took the risk on him anyway just to get that “marquee signing”.
Did it really cost us 60k to sling him on chasing a lost cause today? Hope not. Presumably it’s 80k per week if he is available for selection.
Yeah I'm not fussed about the Premier League anymore. The trouble is if you want to be successful in the Championship then the end result is the Premier League!
Which would turn us into Crystal Palarse of the late 1990s. A YoYo club No real ambition to stay in the PL if we ever get here again.
I love Martial's clown shoe that's bigger than his head. It's definitely the sort of thing Richard Keys tweets for the banter.
It’s exactly what Norwich are now. They get promoted every few seasons but make absolutely no effort to remain, they’re just happy to bank the occasional windfall every now and then.
The defence is taking plenty of pelters & quite right but look at the efforts of two of our so called superstars in Pereya & Deulofeu. The first has been truly awful for a year now & clearly doesn't want to be here & the second got 2 assists today unfortunately for the other team by trying to dribble round everyone then losing the ball. Both are liabilities & if Pearson is some hard nut wolf fighting bloke he should stick them with the utter turds like peneranda & success in the under 23's for a few weeks as an example
Just got home. A pretty uninspiring afternoon to be honest. We weren't good enough. VAR is a joke. Next week should be better, oh wait we've got Liverpool...
Just back from watching that poor 1st half and the abject 2nd half capitulation. With quite a few mins still to go any effort at pressuring Utd's defence was not there. At one point Fatty Shaw was just taking the **** and waiting for a yellow shirt to come near him and the ball at his feet. Embarrassing stuff. I normally try to be balanced on these things recognising that to win games against these supposed big teams means we have to put in far greater effort and commitment to compete. Utd were there for the taking and yet we sat off them passively and through poor passing handed them numerous chances to break and even they couldn't muck things up everytime. Maguire (£85m you must be kidding), Lindelof and Shaw were so nervous at the start that we should have capitalised but we never pressed them hard. Man U were very poor, I won't fall for any praise coming the way of 'Bruno', 'Mason' or Martial. They all looked distinctly average. When they made their 3 subs what was that extended applause about? Martin Atkinson just allowed the lengthy fawning over these changes without trying to speed things up. I guess our lot couldn't be bothered to complain. I've reached the tipping point with Peyrera, later than most I know, but I do not want to see him at the club any more. What a player he was when he arrived, just watch him now, pathetic. He just couldn't be bothered to move today and certainly contributed nothing. Why did he appear for the second half? In all honesty Pearson should have subbed him about 30 mins in, we were playing with 10 men. I see and read much praise for 'Maxi' from his team-mates for his fantastic technical skills on the training ground. He seems to have downed tools completely recently. And I fail to see the point of Welbeck in his current state. He shows no game awareness and I would doubt if he shows any understanding of team tactics as he was anonymous. A former England international with a healthy goal scoring rate for the national team, there's a myth surrounding him, when fit he'll be banging goals in for fun, errr don't think so. Did he get brought on by Pearson so that Welbeck's ex mates from Man U could shake his hand at the end? A whole gaggle of red shirts 'sympathising' with Danny at the end of the game was sick-making stuff. I might calm down over the next few days but as someone who has been watching the Orns for 50 plus years that was one of the more spineless efforts I've seen. There are some notable exceptions to that criticism in the team but I would love Super Nigel Pearson to read the riot act over the next few days. That was real relegation stuff, after we had the boost of some decent results yesterday. I want to see commitment and desire against Liverpool next week and for the rest of the season. If we do go down it has to be because we gave our all not f*** all. I hope, rant over.
Why not go crazy next week? Play Penaranda with Success, chuck Gomes in goal. Nothing to lose if we are going to get thumped regardless.
You're not the only one who feels this way. But the Pozzos came in after Baz, so they are beyond reproach.
**** you for reminding me that Success and Peneranda exist in our squad, when i was just coming to terms with things. Can't see us shifting either of them and will have their teenage sulky attitudes stinking up the place in the Championship next season.
This is what I was alluding to before today's game. Waste of time playing the established first team for the United and Liverpool games. We are only going to get thumped anyway, so it is better to keep the players fresh for games they have a chance of winning. All we did today was risk injury to key players. Ok, today, we got screwed by the officials (shock horror), but it was always going to be a defeat, they just made sure of it, in case one of those freak results was on the cards. Play the reserves and U23's against Liverpool, take our 5 goal thumping then try to get some points in the following 8 games. (the last two are write-off's as well). This is probably the best squad we've ever had, but are probably the shittiest "team" we've had in many years.
I think they said in the commentary, that goal is disallowed, if there is a handball of any kind. Meaning that Dawsons hand, would have propably been ok defensive wise, but now it was a mistake as a goal was scored. I think they also said in the commentary, that var checked the offside for the second goal. Not totally sure though. I think they player was falling down before Foster touched him. After all though, we lost 3-0. We may still stay up!
The rule is, extra scrutiny is given if Watford score a goal against a high profile opposition, especially at their ground. If the ball looks like it's near a hand of a Watford player, it should be emphatically disallowed. If ANY opponent scores against Watford with a hand, even a slam-dunk, it will be "missed" (accidentally of course) and will be allowed to stand. I think that's the current ruling. It must be, as that's exactly how it has played out this season.
What happened next? You guessed it...….we do NOT shoot. Even Wan-Bissaka has his hands on head in anticipation of going a goal down. This sums up Watford's gutless forwards. Always looking to pass-the-buck. Deeney must have been thinking "Hell, I'm at Old Trafford, my April is going ten to the dozen, and I've got no one to pass to....what the hell am I'm supposed to do in this situation....this is Old Trafford for Christ sake, I can't just shoot." If only Pereyra was in an offside position, then Deeney could have passed to him and seen the flag raise for offside and everyone would say "unlucky"
I just hate it to be honest. The whole celebrating a goal for it to be disallowed a minute later is draining. Looks like the right decision was made but the inconsistency in it is appalling.
There is no inconsistency. If it happens for Watford it's disallowed, if it's against Watford it's allowed. This has been 100% consistent all season.
To be fair, Troy never expected it, by the time he’s got his head up and made that split decision Shaw’s in his face and defends very well and deserves praise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Today we could of done with him gambling more, massina and Dawson put great balls into the danger area, for nobody attempting to get on the end of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Who know we might get an iffy handball in the area or a foul if we made an effort to cross or shoot more... When was the last time we had a penalty appeal ? Villa home? Ok probably wouldn't be given with our luck but ...
