Agreed, in 1880 we didn't even have a football club to have an ex scummer **** of a striker bottle taking a penalty.
Says the guy who's been on the managers back all week? I don't care if Cleverley is the designated kick taker after Deeney, which I highly doubt he is, I don't think we planned for it tbh. But if I'm Andre Gray, £18 million pound record signing, I've had a good game, a hand in two goals so far, I'm a striker, I've only scored 1 goal since my transfer, I'm taking that penalty. Did it look like Cleverley wanted it? Not to me it didn't, poor decision all round, maybe not Gray's fault it might have come from the bench but awful decision nonetheless.
Lose a game of football and people seem to utterly lose their marbles. Two comments I’ve picked up on, the angriest one poster has ever been! I take it they’ve not been going for long and another poster with this gem, the last three games have been diabolical!!!! Really? As usual a massive over reaction to what is a very disappointing result and I’m as gutted as anybody about throwing today’s game away but a little perspective needed I feel
I guess you missed the news that Silva confirmed that Cleverley was the chosen taker. Might have avoided an embarrassing post otherwise.
So even though TC was the designated pen taker and it was the managers decision, we're still blaming Gray, right? Surely he can't get off that lightly?
Lack of professionalism. 2 up away from home you must see it out. Who ever took the penalty had to at least hit the target. A good time for an international break and chance to regroup
First time in ages that a game has left me proper pissed off. Three implosions in three games and a squad that seems to be largely made of balsa wood. Whilst we are far from being Sunderland, it is bizarre how we have had over 2 seasons of total inconsistency and and only fleeting moments of resilience. The icing on the cake was that when we got awarded the penalty, I left the room where I'd been listening to it on the radio. My wife and daughter stupidly assumed Cleverly scored as there was a loud cheer when he missed, so they cheered. I ran back in feeling relieved, only to find out we'd blown it. Idiots, though I'll let the 10 year old off.
Gray should have disobeyed his authoritarian coach and taken it anyway and had he missed, we could have criticised him for doing exactly what is being suggested he should have done.
Complete inability to see out a game. Extremely unprofessional. I didn't think we looked very good at all, even in the first half and 2-0 flattered us a little bit - Everton though were absolutely dreadful and there for the taking. We saw Stoke last week show us how to see a bloody game out. Britos and Holebas should both be on their way in January. Neither is consistently good enough at this level. Holebas is a liability with his discipline too. Karnezis looks much worse than big Pants. I'm not quite sure why he was thought not good enough. Awful, awful air kick for their first. Nowhere for their second and didn't make a save I don't think. You could tell the defenders had little faith in him after that first **** up. I would imagine the queue for Silva's signature has reduced somewhat. Okaka was needed for Gray much earlier as others have pointed out. Incidentally, yet another complete air shot from Gray in the first half when a sharper striker (Okaka?) would have tucked it away. About the only bright spot was the performance of Mapps when he came on. I thought he was a deadbeat who'd been signed because he was fatboy troy's mate. He's consistently showed me how wrong I was. Hughes was OK, but no more really. Not a Chalobah by any stretch of the imagination. Still shaking my head at how the hell we lost that.
As much as I generally agree with the need for a balanced reaction to any game, for the rest of this evening perspective can just f*ck right off.
The defensive part of our game is absolutely no better than a bottom 3 club, that's what the stats say I don't need stats through, I can see it with my eyes
Update: drunk, not bothered any more, we will stay up this season and even when we lose we have a better playstyle and players than in the previous 2 seasons Its all going to be ok lads
Anger does not correlate to how good or bad we are. I believe in this squad and manager more than any I've seen, and the opportunity for this side to finish 7th is gaping, which may never happen again. The fact this is the only time since I've been alive Everton have managed this backs me up. So yes, it's up there
Perhaps Silva has to take some of the blame regarding our poor defence, instead of it just being about individual errors? I'm still firmly in the Marco camp, but the amount of gifts we're giving to the opposition is ridiculous. Maybe a compromise of style somewhere between half Dyche/half Silva would see us doing a lot better? It wouldn't surprise me to see the same errors being made with Kaboul and Prodl back there. Is it as simple as just changing personnel and all our problems magically go away, or is there something fundamentally wrong with how they're being coached to defend? I don't know, I'm clutching at straws to try and make sense of what happened this afternoon after we went 2 up. I can handle defeats - had a lot of practice over the years. But the position we were in, against a terrible side whose fans had already turned against them whilst they were being conducted from the sidelines by a P.E teacher/taxi driver/clueless lard ass - makes this one of the most difficult to get my head around. In fact - as the evening ticks on, it's making less and less sense..... Would love to know the things said in the Watford dressing room afterwards.
1st time this season I have thought we may struggle, Till now thought mid table would be possible. Will not be a worse team away this season - they were shocking
Bloody Baines saying how nice it is for the Everton team to give Unsworth the result he deserved. I think he'll find it was a case of us gifting him everything he got today. Well, our charitable play and one particular gift from the ref.
Troy's cojones comment is biting us on the ass as well! 2-0 down to lose 3-2 and miss a penalty which would have made it 3-3. That's a real lack of cojones!
For what it's worth how anyone can blame Silva is beyond me. His tactics put us 2-0 up, ******* braindead, awful play chucked it away. He must want out now, if he had a back four who could stay fit for more than a game and could defend a cross he could do anything he wanted
doesn’t silva instruct his players to stand like bleeding statues at corners each and every game? On a side note... We haven’t won since Deeney spouted off b0110ck5 after the Arsenal game Clev was never destined to score that pen, we don’t score three goals away from home, we’ve scored two goals in every away game this season
Over a 30-40 year history there have been many worse moments. Far worse. I know. But, our expectations have been raised - and justifiably. All sense of perspective justified tonight. Have a beer or 12 ...
And if he wrestles the ball off his captain and designated penalty taker to take a decisive penalty in the last minute and misses what is the reaction then? People would literally be saying that he should never play for us again.
Hopefully the love in for Holebas will now stop. The guy is an absolute moron and I can’t wait to see the back of him. Britos was horrendous and just like Holebas, was giving away needless fouls. 2-0 up against one of the worst teams in the league, 25mins left, what could possibly gone wrong? Then I realised I support Watford and if any club can throw away an easy theee points, it’s us. So this result comes as no surprise. In fact it is almost certain we lose after the break at home to West Ham. Another horrendous team that can’t win playing bingo on their own, but Watford will somehow gift them three points. The week after sees us play Newcastle. Another shocking team that lost at home to Huddersfield. However, we will go there, score 3 and somehow lose 5-3 in the last 20mins. If I had to guess, it will be because of Holebas setting them up for 3 goals, Britos will kick Atsu and get sent off. There other two goals will come from us trying to salvage a draw at 3-3, so Silva will take off our attacking threat and bring on Watson. He will do nothing, like always, so with Britos sent off and Watson on, we have 9 against 11. Newcastle will take courage from this and end the game victorious. Hopefully Zeegelaar can start against West han because I am done with Holebas, the guy is an absolute bell and liability. At the start of the season I was thinking, one, maybe two additions in January. Now I’m thinking four if not five. Oh and to concede yet again from a fecking corner is truly disgusting. Silva needs to stop being so arrogant and change how we line up at set pieces because we are getting done every week!
Newcastle aren’t shocking. They’re no worse than us. Probably better. And Huddersfield are one place below us in the table.
If Silva’s tactic with that quote was to take some flak off Cleverley, then it’s certainly worked with you. But maybe it’s just a wild conspiracy.
No because he is a liability defensively. Gave away stupid fouls in both halves, got an assist for their first and gets too worked up to focus on getting us back in the game because he lets his head drop.
I was sat next to an Everton fan on the train home and he said we just had an off day. I explained that being a Watford surportter means you have more off days than on.
