Ugh I joked earlier but can see since that the moist knickers have finally returned. We will lose some games. The difference this season is that the last three we have lost we deserved to win. Tighten that defence up and we will continue to score goals. Silva was clear on the need for defensive reinforcements and was not happy with what we ended up with in August. All will be fine for a top 10 finish.

I was there. Sitting among the Ipswich fans. Couldn’t resist getting up and shouting when Ben Iroha missed a sitter about two minutes from time. Must have been his bunions.

Laughable all the ron managers on here. Mostly, it needs to be said from the 10K+ bedroom dweller brigade, who deem themselves knowledgeable after playing football manager on their Play Stations. Thanks, but I'd prefer Silva if you don't mind.

Most on here, including myself, would have accepted a draw before this game, a valuable point away from home, against a team in the relegation places fighting for points, always with the added potential for new manager bounce, no matter how poor they were previously playing.

Little mention that we get to 2-0 reasonably comfortably, creating chances, attacking & passing the ball well. Yet our the only PL quality standard keeper at the club & the other most influential player we have go off through injury & we are as a result significantly down on quality. Then to the penalty miss. TC had the confidence in that moment to show guts & man up to take it against his old club, yes, he misses under the pressure & the chaos here ensues on the negatives.

It amazes how some people react on here like we are now on full on meltdown, expectant on the win, someone even saying they are now writing off playing in Europe! That is the type of mindset you are dealing with. Love them one week, hate them the next.

10k+ Bedroom dwellers. No need to respond.

Someone being possible player of the season to one who should be nowhere near the squad just 18 months later? I credit you HB1 for not being that fickle.

To elaborate, why do you think Britos and Kabasele are primarily at fault for our defensive record? A few round me were praising Britos in particular for his defensive contributions, and I can’t recall either of them being majorly at fault for any of the goals we’ve let in this season, except for the 4th at Chelsea, when the game was all but lost.

Holebas is first choice LB because there is no one else who can reliably play in his position, with Zuniga having gone back to Napoli, and while I’m still a Britos fan, he is not good enough going forward to play there. Who else would you play in his place currently (or last season for that matter)?

Talk of playing in Europe is stupid, I want us to be playing in the premier league next year and the after that not picking up more injuries by playing silly teams in the Europa Cup, it took its toll on Leicester last season (CL) remember Fulham a few tears ago where are they now!

Can't believe we lost that game.

Plus side is that we were much the better side again. Negative is that we failed to capitalise on a game we deserved to win again.

Gomes going off killed us. I've heard people raving about Karnezis since we signed him, but he didn't do himself any favours today. I'm not gonna judge him purely based on today, but maybe the grass isn't always greener?

Holebas also made some awful mistakes which cost us. I was confident Holebas would help Karnezis settle in to the match, but was proven completely wrong.

Can't believe Cleverley was put on pens. From the second he picked up the ball I had no confidence. He's had an excellent season so far tho so I won't let 1 miss over shadow that. Also people using this as an opportunity to whinge at Gray are simply stupid. Suggesting he was at fault for not overruling the managers decision is laughable.

I'm glad hughes was given an opportunity. I thought he had a good game and was much more effective then Capoue has been recently.

Richarlison missed another huge opportunity and needs to work on his finishing. It's nice to see that he's not letting the misses effect his confidence though and still continues to look dangerous. It's no coincidence that the opportunities always fall to him, he's got that ability to know where the ball is gonna land and is always on the move.

Carrillo seems to have lost the confidence to take on his man. Gray had a good game, should've been played in earlier a few times and should've finished with 2 assists. Femenia is very good and a great outlet.

Silva needs to use the next 2 weeks wisely. It's hard with people coming and going for international games, but the players who aren't need to be drilled constantly.

Yep, I'm sure those Fulham and Leicester fans don't look back at those campaigns as involving some of the greatest nights in their club's history or anything silly like that.

Telling your grandkids about the time you beat Juventus and Sevilla is all well and good, but 15th and another few years of that glorious TV money is what football is all about and the reason why we fell in love with it as kids in the first place.

Hard to totally blame Cleverley if he offered to step up and take responsibility for the penalty.

And he did gain us 2 points the other week against Arsenal of course.

We should have not been in that position anyway - guess the change of goalie caused a total lack of communication and trust between the defenders?

Mind you presume Holebas would have played with Karnezis for Greece?

We were 2 up but they got the goal back pretty quickly gaining a foothold in the game and the crowd started to support them whereas another 5-10 minutes and they would have turned.

I think Pozzo should bin Silva and get a British coach in.

Silva is an arrogant foreign ponce who's made made too many naive/downright stupid changes for my liking.

Billy McKinlay would have got us at least 9 more points by now.

You have to be ruthless. Britos was great in his first season, but has been on the decline ever since. It's not unfair to call it how it is. He makes far too many basic errors. He's continually beaten in the air on crosses and his positional sense it poor on a lot of occasions. He's a main contributor and has played many games in a poor defence. He's unfortunately one of the reasons our defence is so poor. You cannot rely on him anymore.

I'm not a big fan of Karnezis. He's one of these keepers that the ball just bounces off. He doesn't make saves where the ball is gathered cleanly. He tends to rush off his line with a rush of blood. I would put him in a similar category as Arlauskis.

Kabasele is another who just does not get his head to the ball for crosses. He's always in the wrong place or beaten to the ball. He's not rubbish by any means, but he's not very strong either.

Britos and Kabasele are the two in the shirts right now, and if everyone was fit I doubt they would get too much game time. Even with everyone available our defence is still crap, lets be honest. We have to recognise who are the worst of a bad bunch and move them on. Retain those who maybe of some use, but we really need an upgrade right across the board.

You can play any system you like. Zonal, man for man or a combination of the two, but nothing will work with inferior players.

Karnezis joins Arlauskis and Bonham in the annals of absolutely ****ing terrible league debuts for keepers. The others never played again for Watford, think that if Gomes stays fit for the rest of the season, there's a fair chance the same will happen to Karnezis.

We either seem to have great goalies or some who for whatever reason have a nightmare on their debuts/generally and never recover.

Mind you Tony Coton let in 5 on hid debut - didn't turn out too badly!

Just reading that West Ham are likely to sack Bilic and replace him with Moyes in the next couple of days. Well he's not going to want to lose his first game in charge so will spend the whole of the international break working on parking the bus and pinching one from a set piece. Can see where this is heading...

At least two willing interviews and gratitude for getting a MoTM in a low key FA Cup game would suggest otherwise whatever his initial misgivings more than two years ago, but don’t let the facts get in the way
of your “didn’t want to join us in the first place” bandwagon hopping.

It’s like when some fans who were reluctant to drop their grudge against Tommy Smith for many months after his return kept saying he shouldn’t have come back and constantly criticised him for the slightest mistakes, before he eventually silenced his doubters and re-cemented himself as a WFC favourite. I’d like to think the people Holebas has firmly won over don’t include any of those laying into him now, but sadly knowing football fans it wouldn’t surprise if that weren’t the case...

  18. We didn't deserve to win the last 3

We capitulated against Chelsea with keystone cop defending; we created I think 1 attempt on target against Stoke, and we capitulated again today with more keystone cop defending

We didn't deserve to win any of them

Just got back and boy did it seem like a long journey home. Small bit of scouse humour walking back to our car when they realised we were not smiling "thats the only thing Cleverly has ever done for us"

At least they stayed whereas many left at 2-0. If only and if only again (injuries in the second half/miss in the first) but we had the chance to equalize and pickford had committed himself before Tom shot but i guess his mind was made up as to to where it was going. I thought Gray and Hughes did well overall.

Okaka on as well in the 12 minutes of time added on so the tiff is over and he might feature again.

Such a shame given the totality of our injuries and in particular Chalobah being sorely missed although i do agree defensively there is little by way of improvement since last year particularly if you need to score at least 2 goals in every away game which is pretty good after 6 of them.

Same points as Walter had after 11 games- his 11th was also a long journey back from Anfield this time last year having conceded 6.

Gray might not have played great so far thus season but he played well today. Criticism of him over the penalty is just looking for a reason to put him down to continue an ongoing point that he's not good enough. Credit where it's due and criticism when justified is fine.

If cleverly was the chosen penalty taker, and the manager says he was, then I'd assume and hope it's because he has a good record in training at taking them. So that decision is fine. But it was an awful strike and I'm pretty sure he feels as bad as we all do tonight.

The new GK had a mare today, but he could well be a very good GK. Perspective required here as well. But today he has played a big part in the defeat.

Bloody annoying just how many injuries we've had now over 2 seasons!

Last comment. As gutting as that was, at least we are still playing entertaining attacking football. Hopefully this is going to continue and I can continue enjoying watching us, even with these very low moments, because the 2 seasons before I got to the point I could barely make myself watch us play.

All you Deeney haters should be honest and acknowledge that we would have got a point, probably even three if he was playing today. Not just because he would have scored the pen, but he would have dragged the team through the difficult period in the second (and possibly got his head on the corner for their second).

Hahhahahahahahaha based on what!? Did you watch Karnezis regularly at Udinese then? And the Arlauskis comparison hahahahaha was that when you were scouting him whilst he playing for
Unirea Urziceni (Wiki) in the Romanian top division?

There is not a chance in hell you have watched the two mentioned above, play more than a combined total of 5 games and you've managed to critique like that? Talking out your arse HB1.

I doubt it. These wobbles where the team self-destruct for 10 minutes or so have been going on for 3 or 4 seasons now. Deeney has been on the pitch for the vast majority of them.

Ignoring the fact the whole game would've panned out differently if Deeney was playing, I'll play along. We wouldn't have scored our first goal if he was on the pitch as he doesn't have the pace to run in behind like Gray did. And Deeney has been stationed at the near post for every corner we've defended for the past few seasons so he would've watched it sail over his head to the far post for their second. And he couldn't drag us through the difficult period at Chelsea two games ago so why would we have dragged us through yesterday's?

The difference is that with injuries, wally's side was hopeless. Silva's side has a game plan but is weakened in the areas of injury.

With Wally we were crap all over the park without any sense of direction. People claimed that a no.10 would've somehow solved all of that, yet there were faults which were nothing to do with the no. 10 role.

Yesterday, a fit penalty taker and a centre half who wasn't Britos and a goalie who wasn't sedated and we'd win. Despite the meltdown on here, I enjoyed losing yesterday at least 100 times more than losing some of the games under Mazz.
