Good effort from the boys. Nobody could say they didn't put a shift in. Unfortunately there are certain of our players who just don't have the skills. Not amongst them is Doucoure. Absolutely superb. Easily MOTM for us. Probably even out of the two teams.
Uninspiring stuff. Lost 1-0 to a wonder goal but just felt like as we were well beaten and offered little going forward. Crosses were dreadful. Thought Capoue and Deeney were poor tonight and Niang was anonymous second half. We seemed unable to keep the ball and many long balls were aimless. For positives, Gomes, Cleverly, Doucoure did well in their duties. Liverpool are better than us obviously but felt like we only gave them a proper game when they got nervous in last 20 mins.
Beaten by a world class finish. We fought tooth and nail and defended resolutely but we never looked like scoring either. Deeney and Niang looked too isolated as we played with our midfielders staying back most of the game. The right subs were made but too little too late. Please for the love of God can we stop aimless hoofing? Gomes or Marriapa motm for me. Jamaat at LB looked horrendous. We move onto Leicester who are a easier looking opposition on paper. COYH
I don't actually think we were that bad this evening. I tell you who was shocking though, at that was he berk of a linesman. 1. Flagging Deeney offside after a superb ball into the far post. Video replay showed him to be several yards onside when the ball was played in. 2. Flagging Okaka offside. Again, video replays have shown that the lino was smoking crack. 3. No corner after the Capoue volley. That linesman is a binpicker.
Imagine being angry at losing a game to a world class goal like that. Imagine being so stupid as to think we can come out and play our game in isolation unaffected by anything our opponents do. We soaked up their pressure for 46 minutes and the plan was bang on track. Commentators on both Sky and the US river were impressed with our performance and it was a good bet the game would open up big time after HT. The goal really was just one of those you have to applaud. We then did well to soak up their inevitable 15 minutes of Liverpool maximum effort after half time before they had to settle down. It's not news to anyone that we don't have great movement up front but twice in the final stages we were robbed by a bent linesman with incorrect offsides. And ultimately we made a few chances which on another day go in. Wally even hauled off Capoue, brought on Success and changed system for good measure. Not sure we could have done more.
Proud hornet tonight. If we can continue to put in that kind of effort we will get some more points this season.
Completely outclassed and not helped by playing tired one directional insipid hoofball It wouldn't surprise me if we don't pick up another point this season And the best thing is if Wally is to be believed we have it all again next season Joy of joys
Liverpool were kak but we offered nothing until the last ten minutes. 0-0 without the overhead kick. The 6-1 result stops us just giving it a bash so can see why we play so dull as if prodl kept that one 6 inches lower it's a point. Still dull though. So....... What's worse, giving it all out and losing to a good team 6-1, or being dull and scraping a 1-0 home defeat?
Yep, just the four home league wins in a row for Lesta including beating our betters Liverpool 3-1. Definitely easier opposition.
Feels like an opportunity missed to take some points from a good team who weren't at their best. To get anything against the best teams in this league, we need everyone to be a minimum 7/10. Tonight about half the team played well (Doucoure, Cleverley, Mariappa, Prodl, Kabasele, Gomes) but were let down by some of the others. Janmaat and Amrabat were ok but Deeney, Niang and Capoue were absolutely dreadful.

Mixed feelings, battled well, beaten by a very good goal, though frustrating as it all happened in slow motion. Felt we didn't show enough initiative early enough but on another day could have grabbed a draw. Not entirely sure it would have been deserved though. Last weekend was the type of game we should have turned up for. Suppose a positive is the goal difference isn't much worse
Jeez, we didnt start trying to get forward until 65 minutes. How anyone can be pleased watching that dross is beyond me. I just cannot ever remember seeing a side so continually inept going forward as we are right now...and this is a team that are "really up for this game". The only plus, was another good performance from Doucoure - someone who we will struggle to keep hold of in the summer, I believe. Yes, "I've smelt the coffee" and "I know how far we've come," etc, etc, but if this continues next season we will be on our way back down there.
I'm not shocked by the result, the goal was out of this world. I really hope we can at least a point at Leicester, I hate the feeling after losing at home too...but all in all a good effort tonight against. Much better opposition. I feel a bit empty knowing Hull and Swansea fans will be delighted we lost.
Playing sensibly against one of the best attacking teams in the country and as a result being a lick of paint away from getting a point at the end is better than getting stuffed 6-1 at home IMO.
Dogsh*t. Complete dogsh*t. There is nothing positive anyone can say about that. No tactics, no patterns of play, no attacks, no excitement, no effort. Mazarri plays 352 even though it hasn't worked all season. He set out for a 0-0 and it would have been daylight robbery if Prodls shot went in at the end. Everytime we get the ball we pass it straight to the opposition or kick it out of play. Why did it take so long for him to make a sub? NOTHING was happening on the pitch. The bloke has severe learning disabilities.
That's kind of my point, but its guff to watch. BBC saying we're offering nothing, Sky commentators wondering if we're ever going to give it a go. In an ideal world we go for a 0-0 at Anfield versus a confident Liverpool and go for it a bit (at least a bit) at home against a Liverpool lacking confidence.
And I agree with you entirely; Gomes has been one of the very few bright lights this season. Just find it baffling that because we lumped a few crosses in that makes another toothless performance acceptable for some on here when it could've easily been an embarrassing scoreline.
I get what you mean and if we weren't playing a side renowned for their counter-attacking play I'd completely agree, but I think you have to make exceptions against some teams. The first half and first 15-20 mins of the second half was dreadful to watch, but had Prodl scored or the linesman not incorrectly flagged Okaka then it would have been vindicated.
