The ref also had a 'mare. He panicked and made up a new rule when he gave them a throw in when the ball hit him near the touchline, but clearly still on the pitch. He let a lot of diving go but then after booking Lucas for his particularly woeful effort, let him get away with two late tackles. The first one was particularly annoying as he pulled Doucoure down as we cleared and the ref signalled that he'd seen it but was playing advantage as we'd punted it up the pitch.

The players were up for it,
Mazzari however, is Italian and his first line of defence is att.. er defence, and keep defending until we bring on attacking subs in the last few minutes when we have nothing to lose .... 17th

Great effort.......................................... In the last 10 minutes like always

Defensively, we looked strong. Attacking wise, unless we have all 10 field players up front we look rather weak. All this hoofing business is driving me nuts. Every time it goes to Deeney he heads it straight back to Liverpool. It's not even his fault- he's up there on his own even though we are 1-0 down to Liverpool

Either way, the game could have been much, much worse and that effort from Prodl at the end was almost a cracker. Had that gone in, I wouldn't have given a toss if we lost every other game coming up 6-0. Unfortunately, I am still quite nervous about Leicester, Everton, Chelsea and Man C

Entirely agree but I have a feeling Liverpool may have been there for the taking against an average championship side giving it a go.

Doucoure is an absolutely unbelievable player, dominated the midfield today. As said before we will struggle to keep hold of him, he should be at a bigger club. Just a shame Capoue isn't good enough and Cleverley is extremely limited going forward.

Amrabat was excellent in parts and utterly woeful in others. Deeney was horrendous, back 3 were excellent (Kabasele is another one again who should be playing but isn't, ridiculous management), Gomes pulled off some very very good saves. Everyone else not mentioned did fine.

If we can keep Doucoure I'm very excited about the prospect of him and Pereyra playing together in midfield, hopefully with a mobile striker up front.

Incredible goal but some of the worst marking I've ever seen from Amrabat. I know he's not a defender but I sit at a desk all day and there is no way I wouldn't have got close to Can and put some pressure on. Embarrassing.

Mazzari saying we didnt deserve to lose. ****ing ******. Just admit we were **** and beaten by the better team. What sort of message does it put out to the players if you think that we weren't bad tonight? FFS.

Regarding the Kabasele thing, I think it's due to him being injured for a while as well as being rather unpopular after being responsible for losing us two points at the Bournemouth game

Yeah actually I did forget about that. Still though, if it is to do with that it's a long old grudge.

Good at the back. Okay in the midfield until we get to the creative part. Awful up front.

Get the first goal and we're likely to hold on. Don't get the first goal and it's an inevitable defeat.

I don't blame Walt for the initial tactics, as I thought it kept a limp Liverpool side at bay, but I do think he needs to change things up faster.

Most desperately though, we need a quick striker who can run the channels, as we have zero output.

I was sat slack-jawed after that happened. Great leap from Mapps', ref standing half a yard (at least) inside the touchline when the ball hit his legs. Immediately signals a throw-in for Liverpool then steps back half a yard off the pitch and signals he was behind the line. Farcical.

Didn't do enough to warrant anything till the end.

Liverpool could have won by more tbh.

I hope next season we are more positive from the off..

Do you not think we made them run out of ideas by harassing then so effectively all first half? They barely had a yard of free space in our half in the first 35 minutes and we tackled hard. If we'd have gone for it from the off it'd have been another Arsenal or Spurs at home - 3-0 down by HT as they picked us off.

Just get the the feeling Mazzari thinks he's done a good job by only losing 0-1 to Liverpool
Liverpool were not very good tonight and were there for the taking by a team prepared to give it a go.
We didn't really give it a go.
Amrabat should have been taken off at HT as punishment for his awful defending for their goal.
Why wait until 72 mins to send on a sub ?
Deeney.was poor and was not winning hardly anything in the air and, as we had resorted to hoofing, we needed someone who could win the aerial battles
    Not happy !

Good goal but we gave them possession just before they scored it, stupid mistake so close to half time.
Around the 70th minute Deeney went in for a challenge in the box and I swear he kicked out at one of their players afterwards, definite red if spotted. Think he's slowly losing the plot.
After losing so badly at their place I'm slightly satisfied that their fans decided to keep the ball and waste time at 1-0 up, they were absolutely bricking it.
    Gomes was immense.
Klopp, like last season, only starts his theatrics when the cameras are on him. T*t.

Finally, had 2 obvious scousers in front of me in the SEJ. I was slating Liverpool so badly that they decided to bugger off for half time drinks about 90 seconds before the goal. That's my small victory for the evening.

My man of match Dacoure. Gomes , prod, Clev, Kbasele all good. Niang faded 2nd half.
Amrabat always flatters to decieve and is so bad defensively. Janmat is ok going forward although I don't know why he hit a shot instead of playing ball to right in 2nd half when he had 2 men in space and the box was fully loaded. Deeney tried but fed off scraps. Capoue was awful.
Lost to a worldy to a side who have mullered sides in top 6.
Not too upset, sometimes you have to be realistic.
Ref and lino even worse than Capoue.

Just to say although I was critical of him immediately after their goal I was wrong and there was little Amrabat could have done about it. Don't forget earlier in the season when he tried to put pressure on an opponent in a similar midair position - he flattened Alexis Sanchez and gave Arsenal an easy penalty to take the lead with

Interesting insight into a ref's behaviour. They guy makes a minor but honest error in the heat of the moment by letting the ball hit him. But rather than admitting the mistake, his throw in decision shows him making a consciously dishonest cover up.

I had a bit of a result today although I didn't see it when it was happening. I got caught in completely stationary traffic on the M1 on my way to the game. We were there for an hour and 20 mins. By the time the traffic was released I couldn't make it to the game so I about turned and went home. Watched it on TV, but lost interest with the lack of intent shown in the first 3/4 of the match and the constant hoofing. People were slating HB1 when he said we wouldn't get another point after Swansea. Looks like he's going to be right. Still, isn't it good losing at home to these giants of European football. Look how far we've come etc etc etc.

Very disappointing use of subs. We were generally hoofing it with little hope of retaining the ball for much of the game. Crying out for Okaka who always looks like he might do something with a 50/50. Should have come on at 60 mins ahead of Success.

Wasn't the best. Wasn't the worst. But if you're 0-1 down then there's not much point in sitting back unless you can mount fast counter attacks.

    Currently, we can't.

3-5-2 is a car crash of a formation for us. Trying to play the ball around our CB's like we did for the first 10 minutes was stupid and meant we constantly lost the ball at the edge of our box coz we were playing into their hands. It was like we had no idea Liverpool are known for pressing high up the pitch. We set up so deep from the start and looked like we were playing for a 0-0. Why not go give it a go rather than waiting 75 minutes to look interested?

Class finish for the goal so can't take anything away from Can. At the time I thought amrabat should've got tighter and put his head in where it hurts to prevent it though. Seemed like poor defending to me.

The goal just before half time should've been enough for us to change our game plan but apparently not.

On a plus side, Mariappa and doucoure stood out for us. Prodl, Gomes and kabasele gave good accounts of themselves also.

Mariappa commands the defensive line very well and didn't stop talking. Was screaming at amrabat to mark his player constantly in the second half, especially when Liverpool had throws in that corner.

Deeney, Cleverley, Capoue let the game pass them. Niang started bright but faded after 15 minutes. Amrabat isn't a RWB, neither is Janmaat a LWB

    Abdoulaye Doucoure.

I watched him all game and I think he only gave the ball away once and that was an aggressive attempt at a through ball in the closing stages. What an astonishing player we have on our hands. The guy can even shoot when he gets a chance.

The rest of the team as it has been all season is good players who just can't properly mould into a good team. You just wonder where we'd be if we'd had Pereyra joining up the dots for the whole season. Without him (and his replacement Zarate) Deeney has just been so isolated. One hopes that next season will be a lot better with this issue addressed!

We actually did not put in a bad defensive performance, but why were we so negative going forward?

WM obviously set out for a 0-0 result tonight, but if we had shown any attacking ambition, other than just in the last few minutes I believe Liverpool were there for the taking.

    Walter has to go IMHO!

I think we got a bit lucky today as Liverpool were in second gear. They were below par and also a good job Gomes was on top form again, or else it would have been a much heavier defeat.

The only good thing from today was our goal difference didn't get a battering, but this Watford team has become so stale and are just so uninspiring to watch. It's just awful to sit through.

One tame Niang shot was the only one I could remember on target, and we just didn't attack with any purpose until the final moments. Prodl hit the bar, but it was all too little, too late.

I believe our future in the Premier League lies with the inability of Swansea, Hull or maybe even Palace to not be able to get 40 points. We are just a sitting duck hoping they wont go on a great run.

I can certainly see Swansea winning 2 of their games, but their home match with Everton could be the one that saves us.....I certainly hope so.

There was a bit more spirit than at Hull, but that's not too much to crow about.

We were desperately disappointing, but it did take a world class strike to beat us, not that's like any consolation.

I cannot see another point or goal for the remainder of the season, this is where our coach has taken this team. Whether it pans out that way, we'll have to see, but this the expectation. Basically zero hope of anything else.
