Makes it funnier, don't you think? The whole footballing hierarchy is crumbling around them due to the massive amounts of money that traditionally small clubs like ourselves are earning, and they can't see it.

The vast majority of their fans truly believe that Watford always have and always will be $hit - which means that in their eyes, the fault must lie elsewhere.

In reality of course, despite the massive difference in size of support, there is very little difference between the two sets of 11 players that each side can legally field.

Just because Pogba cost £90 million, it doesn't mean he's 10x the player that Pereya is - in fact the difference is marginal, to the point of being negligible. As far as I can tell, these prices are based more on projected potential than anything else.

Even if he had, he probably wouldn't have put them on until the game was all but lost and/or in the dying seconds - and QSF's dwindling (if still existent) army of apologists would claim that Success is still "one for the future" and Zuniga is "still getting up to pace with the EPL" blah blah blah...

Granted he didn't have the wealth of attacking options that Mazzarri is blessed with, but he still had Amrabat (who he usually either started in a forward position that he was clearly not suited to or brought him on when it was too late) and Berghuis, and could have started Guedioura (hell, even brought him on before we were two or more goals down) more frequently, moved Jurado and/or Abdi to a much more favourable central position far more often, failing that, played Holebas in a more advanced role in front of Ake instead of Jurado. Quite a few things there...

Look, I was as big a fan of QSF as anyone for the most part, probably you included, but even during the last week I felt we needed a change and said as much so back in May.

I Agree about Pogba and his price tag, its just like the TV deals, he's the latest one so he is the biggest one, before long another 19-23 year old will go for more money who isn't necessarily anywhere near as good as his price tag but its the "potential"

One thing is for sure though, even if Pogba is worth £90 million, playing him alongside Rooney and Fellani is like buying a Ferrari and then filling the petrol tank up with raw sewage.

I must be the only one who doesn't know this (apart from our forum resident luddite Clive) but how is it possible to "accidentally" dislike a post on here? I've used this forum both through my iPhone browser (Safari) and Tapatalk and unless I've missed something there doesn't seem to be a way of liking/disliking posts, so are people using a different app/mobile device?

I always assumed (or was misled to believe) that people were disliking posts accidentally because the like and dislike options were much smaller and closer together than on a full size computer (like making a FaceTime call from someone's contacts instead of a normal one accidentally).

Watched the match in Boston, USA. What a great performance that was. Thought when Iggy missed that chance it was going to be one of those days ! Not sure what the yanks thought of 3 Watford fans jumping around like lunatics, especially when the penalty was given. Super start to the day. COYH.

A word for Prodl, who as well as playing brilliantly, sports the little known combination of manbun + no sleeve tattoos. Rarely see the former without the latter. Refreshing.

Really don't agree. Ighalo contributed a lot. First goal he wins the free kick, wins the ball from the free kick with his run and strength, then plays the ball out to Capoue. That's just one example. He was off form last season and should have been dropped, but if you take this season, he's been good (aside from that miss).

You can view the full site on your mobile (which I do). The like/dislike are still there so I can see how it happens.

Did anyone notice the change in Mazzarri's reaction to each of the goals?

For our first goal, he calmly sat down, displayed no emotion.

For the other goals (and when we were given a penalty) he went mental, was brilliant to see

Well, this is what I get when viewing it on Safari, and even after holding onto the screen for more options there's no like/dislike to be seen:

It was our best performance since we beat Liverpool 3-0 last year. Everyone ( including Ighalo) played really well. I think it was Holebas's best game for Watford, he was defensively much more disciplined than he usually is.

I will say that Capoue's run of goals is not a fluke. Its down to confidence and having belief that he will score as opposed to last year when he had the yips in front of goal. We worked as a team and Man Utd for all their wealth of talent didnt function as a team. Having a strong team ethic where players are playing as part of a collective often is more essential to winning in football than 'stars' with big price tags who are part of an unbalanced team. The fact that Rashford is their best player at the moment - when he cost nothing - illustrates the point that spending lots of money on someone does not necessarily make them a great player who is going to improve your team - it just makes you an expensive player. Pogba has a lot of talent but he will have little impact if they continue to play Rooney in the team in his best position.

I watched the game on BTsport and the after match coverage was focused entirely on Utd as would be expected. That ungracious manager Mourinho was blaming the ref and bemoaned their teams luck. The pundits Scholes and Mcmanaman clearly had no idea who the likes of Holebas, Prodl or Peryra where as they where the stars of the game - and didnt get a mention. Yes they said well done Watford but that was it. When showing the goals in the studio it was a case of: Possible foul for the first Watford goal, great move by Utd for their equaliser, poor defending from Utd for the Watford second goal.

  16. Filmed in Bushey Studios, Merry Hill Road, if I remember correctly. I think Pob lived in one of the big houses along there, and his kids went to Merry Hill.

    Pogba's his nephew.

Disagree, barring open goal which he should not forget in a hurry. He held the ball up almost as well as Deeney and was invovled in a lot of our more positive moments attacking. He did tire but he was not poor.

Jokanovic was like that throughout his Season here. First few months, he didn't do much in the way of a reaction. At Bolton was the first time he reacted and got more and more animated after that.

  19. It levels the playing field. They have all the extra money their support and commercial arm brings them, but they have to be seen to be spending it on big names, and had they bought Pereyra rather than Perogba, they would have been slated by pundits and fans alike for lack of ambition, though it would have made little difference to the quality of the team.

What a day. We've shown Man Utd up today for the ridiculous, bloated corporate farce that they are. The fact that Rooney still gets in the team purely for commercial reasons tells you all you need to know. The football club won today. Deeney taking the **** out of Pogba at the end with the dab was class and just about summed it all up.

I remember thinking last season that all that was missing from Capoue's game was goals. Well, now he has added them and that is a truly terrifying prospect. If I wasn't so impressed with what I've seen from Pereyra so far I'd say that he is without a doubt the best technical player to ever play for us. Holebas was dreadful in the first half against West Ham, but was fantastic today. I've always liked him and now that he's going to be first choice I expect he'll really show us what a terrific player he is. Prodl had a fantastic game and kept one of the best strikers of his generation in his pocket throughout. Gomes was solid and made vital saves at important parts of the game. That save from Zlatan can't be underestimated. Zlatan is on the pitch to get one of those on his head every game and 9/10 times he will score it. Not today with Gomes in goal. Behrami was terrific once again - will be our Player of the Season I reckon. Deeney was absolutely phenomenal and has once again made people look very silly, hope people aren't stupid enough to write him off and abuse him again. Iggy put in a shift and looked decent, but is still not near his best. He'll get there, but with Success putting in a cameo like that he's going to have to up his game to stay in the side.

Just a magnificent day where everyone played a part and performed wonderfully. That tops even the 3-0 against Liverpool last season. Very proud tonight.

And I thought last year was unbelievable beating that not so famous anymore scouse team 3 0. I have to admit at 1 1 when Wally brought Zuniga on, I was shouting for success to enter the fold. I started to picture a 2 1 Manure win. But I guess that's why I'm not a premier league coach.

It was more a lopsided 4-4-2 depending on which wingback was on the go, we still defended as a five though ... I'm glad to see Mazzarri thinks like me in that you can't push both WB's up against top sides at the same time.

That MU midfield simply isn't good enough for a 4-3-3 without Schweinsteiger or Carrick and Capoue, Behrami and Pereya had them on toast all day long. And Rooney had a great game, when did we sign him?

MOTD 2 was much better than normal - the pundits (one in particular, but don't know his name) were very complimentary of our tactics, personnel and work rate.

Whilst they did criticise Man U's performance, we were given the proper credit we deserved. Nice to see.

It is often forgotten that only two managers have won the 1st Division/Premiership for Manchester United in the last 100 years - Matt Busby and Alex Ferguson. It is certainly forgotten by their 'fans'.

I have to remind myself of that otherwise I would be walking around with a demented grin on my face, as opposed to a normal grin.

As always, a thoughtful and well-written post.

In my humble opinion you panicked way too early about both our new formation and Head Coach. I hope you will now be able to relax and enjoy what could be a very exciting season!

It's the PL and there are bound to be ups and downs, highs and lows. Mazzarri's CV and the calibre of players we now have suggest that hopefully there will be plenty more highs like yesterday.

Unbelieveable Sunday, and Asia was lucky enough to have it as the main game for little old Watford to stuff man Utd, and deserved to, I thought our subs were wrong and would be hoping to eat my words one minute later and I was. Southampton draw I thought was ok, did not have a clue if saints were a good team or not, Chelsea we were unlucky to lose, Arsenal, we were outplayed for 45 minutes and had a great second half, but deserved to lose, West Ham I thought was judgment day, I said they were a poor team and would be disappointed if we did not win, Man U at hope at best I thought we would get a draw, this is now almost our best 11 and the boss has his system, Got rid of the players no longer needed and we beat Manu, last two times we beat them I think the 5 1 was a midweek game and the Man U team were saving themselves for the cup final on the Saturday, the midweek 1 0 I think Man U were in the bottom three, this is a good man Utd team who were expected to roll us over, when they equalised I said they would win 2-1 or 3-1 god I love being wrong sometimes, I think every player did their part, great game, great performance great result, how the hell does Rooney keep his place in the team? Worse player on the pitch.

Let's not let all that good work go to waste against burnely Monday week.

I think this win is better than the Liverpool 3 0 win as Liverpool were not a good team at the time and the new manager was just finding his feet.

Hats of to the ref yesterday, thought he did well

Did you not think it was really odd when Mark Chapman ( I think that's his name?) gingerly raised the elephant in the room that is Wayne Rooney and said there are a lot of people out there criticising Rooney and saying he should be dropped, and both pundits flatly disagreed? It was very awkward and very bizarre, have they been watching different games to the rest of us?

Paul Scholes isn't a pundit. He's just a celebrity Man Utd supporting guest. Can't even form a coherent thought about any other club, the miserable looking sod.
