Meanwhile Gino just pops round the back and gets what he wants. Unless it's an attacking midfielder, obviously.

We rebuffed a £28m bid for Nyom from Millwall according to the Wobby. Statement of intent.

Just had a notification from WD Sport that Walter Mazzari is about to 'sit down'. It's going to be a lengthy end to the window if the coverage is going to be this detailed.

Something has obviously happened at WD Sport as they no longer get any decent news.

Their stories these days are either speculation or rewording of old stories.

I am still of the opinion that the straw that broke the camel's back was the "Can't win anything with ***s" Tweet just before England's first Euro 16 match. In this day and age for most people writing that is a little cringeworthy and distateful despite the jovial intention; but for someone who is in the public eye it is not really acceptable, if it offended someone at the club then the damage is done.

Makes you wonder if their best source of information has recently left the club?

In other news, I wonder what Dean Austin is doing these days?

    Very interesting.

It seems like the writers they poached from WO have all quickly left also which all seems odd.

Whether it's just the climate we are in these days and a sign of the premier league times it does seem very odd that big national newspapers are getting the (iggy) scoop before the local publications who's main focus and source of traffic is Watford.

The Guardian have a sports writer who is a Watford fan so could have come through him.

This is really not cool by Simon Burnton, he appears to have somehow got hold of a copy of a WDSport article days before they published it (or possibly even conceived it), and pretended it's his own work. Look at the similarities between how they describe Mazzarri's work with strikers, it's almost identical phrasing! What's most annoying is that because Burnton published his article three days before WDSport, to the uneducated football fan it will look look like they just copied his, whereas obviously that's not likely to be the case with the pros at WDSport. Not cool, Simon.

What tweet was this? Don't know what it was in reference to.. something about winning

  21. It was about having loads of Spurs players in the England Squad and a 'joke' that you don't win anything with (a word beginning with y that rhymes with kids)

I am actually sick to death of the pair of them. Literally any time the national press link us with a player, an hour later WD Sport will produce an article confirming this and claim talks are progressing well followed by some totally misused quote from Mazzari. 24 hours later Watford Observer will confirm the interest yet state that a deal is 'some way off'.

Observer at least know they are in an appalling state; WD sport have announced Pereyra is definitely off twice, and effectively confirmed it twice, yet I guarantee right now they still have absolutely no clue if he will ever sign.

I don't actually mind if they produce good informative content away from the transfer side of things as they have both done in the past, but to constantly try and one up each other on transfers is tiresome for us readers.

I agree. WD seem to have lost their touch and are now a pale shadow of last season.

I await a large herring to the face from Kevin Thingy!

This is the thing, they were fantastic last season and I respect them hugely for that. But it's better to focus on what they can do than what they can't now.

Perhaps it's a case of the ambition and ability gap?

  33. IMO WD should do a daily round up of online rumours, with a clear safe harbour statement, and an opinion / observations

    I'd read that

I find the state of the WO coverage this summer really sad. Last summer they were quite obvious with their decision to print all rumours - no matter how far fetched - and never claimed them as a fact, but this year they seem to be printing them in true clickbait style "sources say" - even if that source is some article from Twitter.

Their pre and post-match coverage remains great, but the paper as a whole, not just the sports desk, seem to have been pushed into the issue affecting a lot of local papers, which is printing content that will get clicks regardless of relevance/validity - hence the regular totally non-Watford articles that seem to be design to hit some trending news story
