But you're contradicting yourself! You discount our win at Brentford because they had a man sent off, but gladly include the losses at Bournemouth and Norwich to back up your case even though we had a player sent off early in each. At Bmouth an unfair sending off too! Not one person who has replied to you tonight has disagreed with you that we are poor against the top 8. I certainly don't. I included the defeats as well as the wins against Brentford. No contradictions at all. I'm just pointing out what has happened. Not sure why this is just not being accepted. I do not think we will beat Derby or Middlesbrough......unless we improve to another level than we have shown to date.
In 10 matches from the games I mentioned we picked up just 3 points from a possible 30. We must have been incredibly unlucky then.
This is all great but we currently have enough points from EVERY team we've played to sit in 2nd. As far as I remember it's the points total from all games that decides the league
You remind me of Peter Moores. So consumed with stats that you forget that the game is about more than that. I really hope that our players don't have the defeatist attitude that you and many of our other fans have. Enjoy it FFS. Sport is meant to be enjoyed.
I include stats, as people just don't seem to realise the problem we have when we play the better sides in this league. It's not defeatist to say we struggle to impose ourselves on teams in the top 8. It's an observation based on what I have seen. I think too many people on here do not like to hear the truth and try their best to deny it.
One final thing. I very much doubt the league will be done and dusted after the Easter weekend. There will be plenty of other twists and turns after that
I'm not accepting it because you make excuses for the 2 games we have won against top 6 sides but make no concessions for any of the defeats. If you'd have just said 'APART from our victories over Brentford, we have a terrible record against top 6 sides', nobody would have batted an eyelid. Everybody will have agreed with you. Our record against Bournemouth, Derby, Boro and Norwich (plus Ipswich) has been diabolical and makes a lot of people nervous for the next two matches. Thank Goodness we've had some excellent wins at places like Leeds, Bolton etc (ie, the next few clubs down the table) or we might not even be in the play-offs ourselves. Nice goal for Barca btw!
Fair enough. What the stats don't include is that Derby and Middlesborough have to beat us and will play accordingly. That plays into our hands in my opinion. Not like Ipswich who were happy with a point and played that way and got lucky.
Second half at Boro, home to Derby, away at ipswich we had the better chances, away at Wolves we had two golden chances at the end. Norwich and Bournemouth away was taken out of our hands, impossible to predict what would have happened. We do not have a great record against the top teams, that's obvious but to say we never had a chance of winning any of these games is just taking your point too far, something you seem to do a lot when a number of people disagree with your point.
Poldark is very good. I would have smashed Demelza by now if I was Ross. Talking of gash being smashed, we WILL tear Derby and Middlesbrough new ones over the Easter weekend. Relax, and know that those teams are facing a stinging backlash when they find themselves in our way.
You're right. My mistake. I forgot the late goal we conceeded meant they dropped out. They were, I think, when we beat them. And you referred to top 8 clubs tonight, so I guess we should include them. In fact, as they're the only club in the top 9 we've beaten, we definitely should or it'll get too depressing! While we're talking stats btw, did you know we've played 11 matches against the current bottom 6 and won all 11! What a difference from the Zola seasons when we lost to Bristol City, Yeovil Town, Barnsley, Peterboro etc, all of whom went down!
My point is that we struggle against the teams in the top 6.......and a number of posters have taken exception to that....even though it's perfectly true. I could say we lost 1-0 to Ipswich, and it's the same few posters who would come back and argue against that statement. We were not the better team in any of these games. Sure we had chances and moments within those games, but overall there is no hiding the fact we struggle to impose ourselves when we play this type of team. I would love it if we go to Derby and win, then follow that up with a victory against Middlesbrough......and you can come back at me to tell me how wrong I am. If we even take 4 points from those 2 games I'll be delighted. Sadly I cannot see us getting more than a point from the next two games.....of course I want to be very wrong about that.
I have just seen the small amount of coverage on sky, and didn't realise at the match how Deeney are totally free in the first half when Guedoura shot, a simple pass would probably resulted in a easy goal, Although the manager has come out and said it is his fault, a simple pass leasing to a goal and we wouldn't be having these type of conversations but looking down at the rest!

As I said, nobody can argue we've struggled but we've had opportunities to win a number of these (when we've had 11 men!) but clearly we need to take these over Easter.
Like I said, our form against teams 9th and below has been exceptional......and is far superior to anyone else in the Championship. We are the most consistent team in the Championship against lesser sides, but we are found out when we play the better sides.
We were nervy in the first half against Derby at home. That gave them a totally unnecessary but crucial head start. It'll be the other way round this time, and they'll get their comeuppance. Middlesbrough were over the moon with their point against us up at their place. They'll get nothing at The Vic.
The amount of negativity on here when we lose is astonishing . If we lose to Derby and Boro, but win our last 5 games we will probably get autos on 87 points . That would mean we would be promoted after having gained only 9 points from a possible 42 against the top 8 teams . The best teams in this league arent always the teams that win the most points . Derby last year and Watford the year before that were by common perception the best teams but weren't promoted . People seem to forget that there are double the amount points to be gained from beating the bottom 16 than the top 8
Making observations based on factual events, is not being negative. I think it just stems from concern for the team's fortunes. As you say, we may well lose the next two. But if we lost the next 2, that would mean 3 defeats on the trot. This will place huge pressure to win the next 5 (in all probability), which in itself places its own problems, with expectation. Winning the last 5 without pressure is not beyond us by any means, but having to win them makes it extremely difficult.
The forum is for everyone, to debate what they like in a civil manner. If you don't like it, put me on your ignore list and don't bother reading my posts.
Usually you post decent stuff worth reading. However, when you get a bee in your bonnet about something, it gets tiresome. Leave the complaining about the record vs top 6 sides to the end of the season, imo. If we don't go up, you probably had a point. Gloat then.
If you think I'll be gloating if we fail, then you're a fool. I'm only pointing out a valid concern. If others think we'll smash Derby and Middlesbrough.....then I hope we do.....and I'm sure this post will be bumped up to highlight what a fool I've been.
But what's the point of getting all antsy now? You'll know if your negativity was justified by the end of the season.
