This is the worst thing ever to be associated with Watford FC.

    Apart from Kerry Dixon.

Opinions are fine. But I offered at least three 'positive margins'. What exactly is the 'positive margin' of Z-Cars? How does it involve people exactly? It's not just about, cue - the team are comimg out. It's about getting involved. Ask the 1881. Ask the Joka.

I think you're misappropriating some people's opinions there KO.

I can just see it. Joka and the 1881 as their excitement builds up to a crescendo, waiting in anticipation for...
    ...z cars.

Even the 1881 are asking about dropping zcars on facebook now...

  10. No, just pointing out what is abundantly clear, and that is that your response to me had nothing to do with my post.

424 Topic; what Z Cars means to me.

ZZ Topic; his magical sixth sense and boasting about his watch reading skills - didn't even mention the tune.

Really! What the 1881 and the Joka aren't bothered about getting people involved!?

  14. Great thing about this is that this has happened before, many, many times; and Z Cars always comes back, without any complaints from anyone. Other tunes have come and gone, some pretty impressive ones too, but Johnny K and his orchestra always float back up to the top.

Muff Winwood's daughter's boyfriend (at the time) recorded a mix of the Z Cars tune that was used briefly during the late eighties. Don't know his name, but knowing Muff's musical proclivities, I wonder if her boyfriend ever went on to do anything else that anyone ever heard of. Anyone got a copy of it? Think I have on a tape somewhere.

Eh? So those of us who want to retain Z-Cars don't want people to get involved?

Needs a poll/pole/Pole - can one be (ahem) inserted?

Only thing I'd ask is that any poll includes one or more alternatives - listed here or elsewhere. Not just "Z-cars keep / drop / can't be arsed", which doesn't give a real choice.

OK. Yeah I can see that. And we could have women with enormous breastplates roaming round the Rookery whipping up a storm ...

Whereas all Z-Cars will inspire is a load of old geezers doing up even older Ford Zodiacs on a Sunday morning ...

Not at all. But how can Z-Cars possibly get anybody involved? Has it ever?

And black and white tv, steam trains, a pint of beer at 2 shillings 4d ... all relevant today

  20. That the majority of people like it and it means something to them when it is played: positive margin measured and ticked. Simple really. If people wanted rid, it would have dissappeared a long time ago, not to come back, when it was previously replaced; but it has always been brought back, and by popular demand. Whenever it has been replace it has been by people who didn't understand the club. This is the biggest flaw in the "get rid" argument: it is a seriously minority view, and when it has achieved its goal in the past is has always been slapped in the face when the drumming starts up again.

The 1881 sing songs about murder when a Watford man lies critically ill because someone very nearly did murder him. I have great respect for some of what they have done, but right now I am not interested in their opinion.

Joka really doesn't give a Fudge either way, but it is not played for him, it is played for us.

  21. Do you go to any games? It starts, everyone stands up.

I go now and again when I can. Yep - everyone stands up. Bit like when the national anthem comes on. That's hardly inspirational and involved. More respectful really. Not the same thing at all. It's not party time.

How desparately retro. It's time to move on from some old nostalgic, bygone era. As has been said, 2 shillings and 4d for a pint of beer. And please don't give me all that 'don't understand the club' tosh. Taylor's gone. Elton's gone. Move on. It's like a Remembrance Day parade.

  32. You are speaking for the minority that you represent. You asked if it ever got a reaction. Yes it does, we all stand up, we all applaud, everyone I sit with loves it, most people I know love it. When other tunes were tried, they didn't work; it really didn't work. So, based on that direct experience of what you suggest (replacing it) you are wrong to say any other tune will work, because it didn't, it even engendered a negative response (to the tunes) that distracted from the team coming out.

Z Cars has always been brought back because it does mean something to the majority, and they do react to it. You can dismiss what it means to them because it doesn't suit you, but there are more of them than there are of you, and they go to more games than you. Your view is valid, but your dismissal of the views of others only highlights your distance from the general fanbase. Edit: not calling you being a fan into question, I love you, you are an 'Orn. Just believe you are far of the mark here.

How many of the people calling for Z Cars to be replaced are actually regular attenders? And how many that want to keep it are regulars. This would be interesting to know, prepared to be blown out by it.

Me: Regular attender, and I want to keep it.

  33. I don't believe I have mentioned any of those things other than to say good times? I don't remember 2 shillings and 4d for a pint either, mores the pity. I do remember that tune being played throughout my time as a fan, and that includes the last twenty five years since those great men first departed.

They're gone. Get over it mate, and get over other people getting over it too.

May I just mention that seventies beat combo Canned Heat have been gone a site longer, and their swinging hit, Let's Work Together, is even more gone, but not in that groovy seventies sense.

Yep, one day Z Cars will be a fondly remembered historical record. At least Let's Work Together will never be replaced, because it will never be the pre-match tune in the first place.

Fair enough. I am not dismissing your view. I have no idea who's in the majority here, neither have you. Just because previous attempts to make a change haven't worked doesn't mean that it couldn't be better. The trick of course would be to pick the right tune. There have been various suggestions on this thread. My bottom line would be that it should be something to sing along to. That's all really although I certainly have my favourite. How do you sing to Z-Cars. Blues and twos?

I've seen it many times since it was first introduced. Polite clapping. A bit like the cricket really. I don't represent anyone's view but my own. Certainly not the 1881's but I do like their positivity. And from what I can see they meet a lot of resistance. I note that you have set yourself up to represent the majority fanbase however.

Out of interest, what songs do you sing along with? As in give it two lung-fulls for the cause?
