The boards were shut down at 3pm today, was just browsing and clicked on a thread to see it had been shut down.
Quite frankly it was pathetic of GS to shut it down and completely unnecessary.

I was in the process of replying to a thread…surprised there was no notice (unless I missed it). Certainly had its flaws, maybe one day they can improve those aspects and reopen it.

The club should have moderated the boards correctly, and have lost a valuable resource for testing fans opinions.

Still the positive is that there will be more people on the other Watford boards, and the best of them will thrive.

I think it is a consequence of Jobr's post regarding MK. Even if he was just repeating what he had been told he shouldn't have done. What was it achieving?

It is a shame but GS has a responsibility in law to do what is correct for Watford Leisure plc. Preventing the club fom any possibility of being sued is appropriate.

Thing is, what is to stop them from shutting this or Glory Horns down? people can still say what they like, what's GS going to do then, take legal action over every WFC messageboard? he can't stop us!!! He;s very naive if he thinks so...

I don't understand how the club could have got sued. Surely it would be down to the individuals. I'm not saying thats what I think should happen, but why is it the club's responsibility? I know it is a club message board but they must have some kind of disclaimer about the views expressed on the site are those of the individulas and do not represent the club....

The club would be hosting such threads and therefore be liable. As for the person blaming jobr, don't be silly. Only today someone else was starting threads about Carlisle's injury being part of a massive conspiracy and the night before last the usual "you're all tubes and happy clappers" trolls were back on. The fact is it's been a gradual decline since the club started doing well - ironic I know, but people had less to say about the football when it was good, so they started to turn on each other.

I just hope the moderators over here are quick off the mark to shut down any drivel which might pop up!

It is a bit strange how that happened. Probably more to do with how many people started using the boards when we got promoted...

It's crazy shutting down the main boards with no notice though, people have just been cast adrift. Although some of the stuff posted on there was rubbish, it was quite useful for some things. e.g. I was asked the other day where was good to drink in Manchester and I was able to (hopefully) give a useful answer. I suppose we'll just have to hope everyone migrates to the same board, i.e this one!

I think it goes right back to the turn of the year actually. We've been riding high since then. The boards were always at their best when the football talk was controversial and people had something to debate. It was hardly as interesting discussing whether we'd prefer 3rd or 4th place :p

Stuboy - You're right, but they were never likely to give notice for fear of a barrage of libelous carp being posted before the shut down.

The boards were fine when we were in the championship, but then all the talk about our supporters kicked off and it went downhill from then on.

I blame those that constantly went on about how our fans were ****s etc etc. It was childish and pathetic and they only served to show themselves to be the lesser fan and not those they appeared to look down on.

Yes that's a damn shame, I'm disappointed and I'd only just got over the 500 post mark!

Firefly - in response to my previous post and your reply (as I know you don't like being ignored) did you want me to give you info on places to drink in Manchester? Are you sure you're old enough for a pint of fine ale!? ;)

Hi everyone. It's not the end of the world. Before long all the old posters will be on here.

Think of it as a fresh start. Maybe we can get rid of some of the pr*ts and the quality of posts will improve. We owe it to each other and especially the owners of this forum to keep the postings free from libel and petty sniping.

To Admin - have you ever thought about a way of vetting members e.g. you can't become a member of this forum until an existing member vouches for you?

Anyway, start of a new dawn and best wishes to everyone.

Ha ha, that makes you older than me then! There are plenty of watering holes in Manchester city centre, just make sure you don't stumble into a locals pub, otherwise you might find it a bit musty!

Actually you've reminded me, I need to sort out my profile on here as my WFC message board one is now lost in the mists of time...
