Will Dyche be able to stay if the deal goes through???

If this deal does go through is there any hope Dyche will stay? I ask this because the posters from Italy and Spain are already stating the players that will/potentially be coming on loan and all this talk about Zola being involved also makes me wonder.

I don't know enough about the Pozzo's but by reading some posts it looks like they shuffle players around and not much is said about the managers of these sides (Udinese / Grenada), are these players chosen by the managers to be loaned or are they sent and expected to play? If this is the case will Dyche be happy with that and accept it?

Maybe Zola is aware of the situation and see's this as a good way to get back into management and raise his profile as a manger (even if all the choices are not his) and set himself up like other Watford managers have done and move on!

I started a petition somewhere else, essentially saying that we think Dyche has earned the right to try and meet whatever expectations the Pozzo family have. 41 signitures so far, which is more than the number of people I thought actually visited that place. It would probably be higher, if there wasn't also a line about the signitures welcoming the proposed takeover.

Okay, 41 people on a forum isn't much. But my intention was to try and do what the WST should have done: say that we believe the Pozzo's football philosophy (scouting and player development) can tie in with Watford's, but that we can and will speak up loudly on specific issues that we're not happy about.

Harsh as it is , if someone wants to spend MILLIONS of pounds on an investment , its pretty much their call who they put in charge of various duties , Dyche will understand that and do very well wherever he ends up (even being ginger)

It's not so much morals, as the fact that this guy has arguably done a better job in his first 50 games as a manager than the person currently managing Liverpool. If the Pozzos make available the sort of money that they think will generate a playoff run, and Dyche doesn't deliver, then fair enough. But for me he has earned the right to try.

Agreed, it might even be a blessing in disguise for him and he ends up managing a bigger club.

This is how a fan thinks mate to be honest , not a hard nosed successful businessman

If there is money to be spent , they will probably want to give it to someone of their own choice, wether the fans like it or not

    It's not fan talk.

The Pozzos need a man who can bring together a raft of new players, develop them as individuals, and mould them into a cohesive unit. That's exactly what Dyche did last season, with a bunch of poor-to-reasonably good players (through a combination of financial necessity and questionable scouting). The difference this time is that we have a proven global scouting network, and the new arrivals will be average-to-great players.

Whether we're talking football or business, it doesn't make sense to get rid of a manager who has already proven himself good at doing precisely the things you want to do more of, unless you have someone with an even stronger track record lined up.

How much will he be given to spend if any? Maybe we will only get loans from Pozzo's other clubs to start and the ground might be finished!! This may be a good thing, keep Dyche with what he has and already done great with and add a few good loans from Udinese/Grenada. See out the first season and see how Dyche does, if he can improve by 10pts then we could be in the playoffs with not much spent, a better ground and the possibility of winning the playoffs!!

Another quick question - If we are only allowed I think 6 loan deals, would it not be possible for Watford to get a player from one of the other clubs on a free transfer and then at the end of the season let the player go on a free transfer and return from where he came??

You are a bit blinkered to be honest , and i think you need to wake up and smell the coffee , Dyche would (or does) understand more than you do ,and its his job were discussing

Dyche (to a impartial observer) might appear to be good at steadying a ship , or getting the best from limited professional footballers , but not much more....he might also not be considered tactically proficient enough to coach young Italian starlets (to be) , he also might not have the profile needed to attract a certain type of player

Look at it from a different angle...

Can you tell me how many Italian players Granada have had on their books this season, permanent or loan?

EDIT: Heck, can you tell me what sort of stature any of Granada's past managers have had in professional football? In the recent past they've had Gonzalez, someone who has genuinely had more clubs than Steve Claridge, and Abel Resino, the Steve Sherwood of Atheltico Madrid.

It'll be nice if they gave dyche a fair run out and then if they decided they didn't like his managerial style etc they can just get rid of him, seems a bit harsh giving him the boot after a good season. But as layton said its their decision ultimately, well when bas stops being an ***

Sean has been successful with basically a team of journeymen who he has motivated to put maximum effort in on the pitch. Whether he has the ability to coach better quality players, some of which are likely to be foreign, is debatable. The Pozzos may be looking to play a different type of football more in the Italian style and may want their own man to bring this in.

I hope that they give Sean a chance, but I will back them nevertheless if they don't. Realistically, if Bazza remained in charge we probably wouldn't have a club for Sean to manage long anyway.

I respect your right to your opinion of course. For the record I believe the answer to my first question is zero, but admittedly I've only looked at Wikipedia for that. As for the second question, the manager who got Granada into La Liga has managed more clubs than Steve Claridge played for (tellingly, never being at a club for long) and the guy who replaced him is on track to do likewise.

Surely the Pozzos are shrewd enough to look at the overall combination of manager's track record, knowledge of the division, ability and willingness to defer to them on certain decisions etc? Unless they have reason to believe that Dyche would refuse to agree to the role they are offering, I simply don't understand what box he doesn't tick, that a potential replacement would. To my knowledge they have never been particularly bothered about profile, and given their record with Udinese and Granada, I would be surprised if that was a deciding factor.

But it's not our call though, is it? We're not the ones on the brink of a takeover, and aiming to invest millions of pounds into the club.

We don't know if they plan to get rid of Dyche, no one does apart from the Pozzo's. Hell, maybe they aren't even sure yet. So up until the point when this takeover goes through, all this speculation is pretty pointless really.

You're talking like he's already been sacked for Christ's sake! We don't know their plans! As I said in my previous post, this is quite pointless and we will only be going in a merry-go-round here. Let's just wait and see shall we?

If speculation were pointless, all football forums would shut down for May and June. And thank goodness that they don't.

I do see the point you and others have made about "having the right", and have from the start. I've worded that wrongly. But I still don't accept that the point I am making about Dyche being qualified to do this job is in any way blinkered.

For a good example where I really don't like the manager and club involved, and (red shirts aside) see the owners as the relative good guys, look at Cardiff. The owners have had a hands-off role for a while now, and are now starting to take the bull by the horns and heavily invest. They clearly expect promotion next season. If Malky Mackay doesn't look like giving them it next season, he will be out of the door and will no-one would have a right to complain. But nothing he has done so far suggests that he wouldn't be able to deliver promotion with better players.

For me, it's got nothing to do with loyalty, nothing to do with Dyche being a Watford man, nothing to do with actually liking the bloke. I want Dyche to stay because he's clearly a bloody good manager. And why the hell would you want to sack a bloody good manager? They're as rare as rocking horse poo.

Whoever you replace him with MIGHT also be, but the chances are he wouldn't and it's extremely unlikely that he'd actually be better.

  22. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Dyche is a good manager, what we needed to steady the ship etc.

'Bloody good'? I'd probably take issue with that.

If Pozzo wants to give a transfer kitty to someone, I'd hazard a guess they'd want to give it to someone they trust.

Dyche deserves a chance but let's not pretend he's the second coming of GT.

Money would be relevant if the manager were the person who would actually spend it. From what I understand, the manager at a Pozzo club is very much a head coach, who gives general input on where he thinks the squad is weakest, but doesn't make the final decision on acquisitions.

That's not a million miles away from the way we have operated with John Stephenson and Ross Wilson.

Why would you take issue with someone saying that he has done a 'bloody good' job?

Look at the squad he had at his disposal and look at where we finished. In fact we had a genuine chance of getting into the playoffs with weeks of the season remaining. If that's not bloody good then I don't know what is.

People like you on here really irritate the sh*t out of me. You get a bit of money and chance of success flashed at you by foreign owners and suddenly all principles, notions of loyalty and stability are thrown out of the window as well as gratitude for a man who has served the club well as a player, coach and manager. Dyche doesn't deserve to be sacked and it would be sickening if he was.

Only because there's a lot of talk of replacing Dyche with Zola, who flopped at Wet Spam, when the deal goes though.

There's many, myself included, who were very impressed with what he did last season. You can't do what he did with the players & money available without a fair ammount of talent & ability. You don't rate him as all that? Fair enough. I do though.

What Dyche did last season was nothing short of a miracle. His achievement cannot be understated even with all of the words in the English language.

The fact is that without Dyche the chances are we would not have a club to be sold. If we had been relegated - which we should have been and would with 99% of managers out there - God knows what would have happened to us.

I don't care if they give us £80m with bells on, I would hope they at least give Dyche a chance to show what he can do when he doesn't have to perform miracles with nothing. Dyche made the club feel like Watford again, it was fantastic. Yes, it is their money and they can do what they like, and if they do replace him with A N Other I'm not going to throw my season ticket in the bin and cry my eyes out. But for me they will show a huge lack of understanding if they lob Dyche out and replace him with some big name manager. We are in the second tier, we are not a big, fancy club and nobody in this division plays flash, Barcelona football. To get rid of a manager who pulled a top half finish from nailed on relegation fodder with barely an ounce of dribbling, passing crossing or shooting ability between them would be insanity personified from any perspective.

If Zola is involved I'd much rather it were in an assistant role or a DOF role. I'd definitely want Dyche to stay on, he has the ability to take this side up, if that's what the Pozzo's expectation for this season is. His only downfall is that he's an unknown outside of England and therefore wouldn't attract the kinds of international players the Pozzo's are famous for purchasing. Whereas Zola would, and so I can understand why they want someone with a bigger reputation involved. But as I said, maybe he would work well as a DOF, being the clubs representative when talking to prospective players and working with the directors on negotiations and transfers.

People are drastically overstating Dyche's success. He may turn out to be a great manager, he may not. At this stage he's just a guy with 1 season under his belt, during which he did quite well. The graveyard of managerial careers is full off men who did exactly that and never went any further.

Let's not get carried away with pretending Dyche is anything more than a young manager off to a promising start.

    This.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (not trying to be a smart arse here) but they haven't mentioned if Zola will be manager here, have they? He could work in any area of the club.

Oh come on now. GoingDown clearly rates him, as do I am 99% of Watford fans. Just because we're not going on like looney's doesn't mean we don't think he's a good manager. He has only had one good season though, he isn't the Son of God.

People close to the deal insist that Zola will be joining us at some level, but you are correct I don't think it's clear that he would deffo be manager. But really, would such a high-profile name agree to come to a Championship club as anything but? I'd be amazed frankly.

Money talks, and the Pozzo's have a lot of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zola replaced Dyche as manager, but then again I wouldn't be surprised if Zola became director of football or something like that either.
