We've been entering the girls into tournaments since the season ended and have been doing well. Two weeks ago at Denham we were beaten in the final by an excellent QPR team. Today we entered 2 teams into the Maidnehead U12 Girls tournament. Both teams qualified well from their groups and avoided each other through successful quarter final and semi final wins to meet in the final. Winners and runners up today with the two teams which is an excellent effort by the girls. We're going to get them to pose for a new team photo on Wednesday training with all the trophies they've won this season.
Will do. Probably 2nd weekend in September. You might be surprised who could be joining our league next season as the big players have realised the standard in the Herts League is so good. The girls made the headlines on the Watford Ladies web site. www.watfordladiesfc.com. I also noticed the 1881 were well received at Berko yesterday. I've seen the pictures as well .
Yes! We went with about 20 people, Berko's lovely too so it was a good day out. We all enjoyed ourselves.
Couldn't make it yesterday as I was on a training course, but if you guys go along again then let me know and I'll try to get down there as well.
Oxford United Women's vs Watford Ladies After yesterday's success at the Watford ladies game at Berkhamsted, we're going to have a little go at going away to Oxford United's ladies side. They play at Abingdon United FC, which unfortunately is only really achievable by driving. It's on Sunday the 27th of July, and kick off will be a 2PM kick off. All are welcome!
As I live about 10 miles away and follow the fortunes of OUFC ladies because 2 of my girls have been involved in their youth set up I will try to make sure I get to this. With my "right" yellow shirt of course! COYH!
I live 2 miles away from Abingdon United so will try and get down there. They have a decent little club house too with a bar!! COYH!!
Pre season has gone well for the girls. We lost one player who returned to Canada and acquired two new players who are both very experienced, so overall we have strengthened. Friendlies have been excellent culminating in a 3-0 win against top class opposition tonight. Playing in the top division this season will see us play against the likes of Tottenham, Hemel, Garston, Hoddeston, Hitchin, Bury & the Watford Ladies academy. We have a good draw in the League Cup so also fancy a bit of a run this season. First league game is against Hemel Ladies at their place on Saturday. Summer has been too long.
The Ladies began the long league campaign today with a great 6-1 win away to Hemel Hempstead. The scoreline flattered us somewhat if I'm honest. Unfortunately one of the Hemel players suffered a pretty nasty injury which we were all concerned about for some time, and at the end of the day the girls safety is more important than any win will ever be, so games like today's put things in perspective somewhat. It also made us realise that what we carry in the kitbag is woefully inadequate so an immediate update of that will be happening this week. My own daughter was also carried off after 10 minutes after a nasty clash and missed the rest of the game, (absolutely fine now). Girls football, it's not for the faint hearted!
Tell her not to worry, her finger nail will grow back Don't shoot!!! I'm only joking, I just couldn't resist it :notworthy:
Yesterday the girls played Hitchin Belles at home. This was a huge wake up call and showed what it's going to be like this season playing long established first division teams. Hitchin were big, aggressive and bordering on the nasty. Our lot were kicked, slapped and pushed all over the pitch. Halftime was 0-0 and our lot were black and blue, but absolutely determined to beat the nastiness. I've never seen them so wound up. Rather than give it back physically they decided to wind up Hitchin by giving a bit of verbals back, (their plan, coaches and manager knew nothing of it), and it seemed to have the desired effect. Midway through the 2nd half my own Daughter hit a beauty that popped out of the box following a corner to put the Harts 1-0 up, and soon after they fired 2 more in to make the final score 3-0, (the final goal being a penalty after the ref eventually saw a shirt pull in the area). As the penalty was awarded the Hitchin coaches shouted at the ref that "it's not the bl**dy Premier League". It's not but we play by the same rules. What disappointed me the most was some of the opposition refusing to shake hands afterwards, this is supposed to be fun at the end of the day, I can't imagine our girls being so unsporting after a defeat. So we sit 2nd in the table after 2 games, with the Watford Ladies Academy team above us on goal difference. Next week it's a County Cup game, away to Garston at 10am.
Her knee was still hurting this week so she was subbed after 15 minutes to be on the safe side. She was so annoyed at what was happening to her mates on the pitch that she literally forced her way back on after 45 minutes, scored the first goal and defended like a demon to win player of the match. Thanks for asking.
County Cup action last weekend saw the team away to Garston Ladies. Despite some of them turning up looking like they'd been partying all night they got their game together well enough to seal an 8-1 victory. Next 2 weekends are away matches to Hoddesdon and Bedwell, (League and League Cup), then home to Tottenham Academy girls which is going to be mighty tough.
Watford Ladies Hi all, You may or may not be aware but over the past few months the 1881 have been attending a number of Watford Ladies matches to support the girls in their first season in the FAWSL2. The players and staff have really appreciated the extra support, as can be seen here: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...able__support_of_1881_at_Watford_Ladies_game/ The Golden Girls play their last home game of the season this Sunday (12th) against Yeovil Town Ladies and we are hoping to bring a big number to give them a good send off. There is a nice pub nearby next to the canal and the ground also has a clubhouse, it really is a good day out and is also family friendly as you'd expect - all hornets fans are welcome. Their home ground is in Berkhamsted and it is a 2PM KO on Sunday, for more information: http://watford.fawsl.com/index.html
I will be there too. For those unsure it really is good fun, despite the results. Great excuse for a couple of beers on a Sunday and as it is international break should be easier for those who have to justify going to other halves, like myself.
yea, im going to this going to be a good day out, perfect as in the international break so will have voice intact!
Last weekend the team played in a hard fought 0-0 against an excellent Hoddesdon side. You don't get many 0-0's at youth level so good defending from both sides. Without being biased in any way I have to say the referee was appalling, to the point where even our own mild mannered girls were asking us what was going on? One decision was to play on when one of their team went down in our half, then as our striker put it into the net he whistled to stop the game to make sure she was OK, he would do well in the Championship . The draw keeps us in 2nd place in Division 1 behind the Watford Academy team. This Saturday a long trip to Bishops Stortford for a League Cup game. Would have loved to come to the Senior team game this Sunday but my other Daughter is playing for the U17s over in Bedwell.
We are meeting at the Crystal Palace (controversial) pub at 12:00 which is a 2 minute walk from the station!
Watford ladies: nummy nummy num num - several hotties there I know I'm a sexist dinosaur but yay England women's rugby team mmmmmmmmmm
Today saw an excellent Cup game away to Bishops Stortford. Good football saw the girls leading 2-0 at half time, but Bishops Stortford returned the compliment and scored 2 in the 2nd half for a draw. Extra time saw no more goals so it was down to penalties. The girls held their nerve to win 3-2 on pens and go through. An excellent match played in the right spirit by both sides and some great football. Next week it's home to Tottenham academy.
