Yeah, in fairness we were notably worse in the first half, just managed not to make a Watford as we did in the second.
At least this dire form happened now and we're actually at rock bottom when the transfer window is open. It's completely on Gino, and I can only hope he's bricking it about going down
Looked a penalty to me and I was right behind it. Thought we set up well but that's the danger of playing that game,if you switch off once...
******* hell the next two games are ginormous, I'm not sure I can handle them! How frustrating it is to think that if it weren't for stupid stupid errors from the defence and goalkeeper, we could have daylight over Burnley and Newcastle now...
Last time we were in this position his answer was Pussetto. We've then gone down, come back up and he's made even worse mistakes. The man is off his head.
Today confirmed our relegation. Not perhaps in terms of league position but in terms of how much that will kill us mentally. We were already fragile before that kick in the gonads! Kuca brilliant up until that foul at the end, which I put more down to the quality of Son than anything, he drew him in like he does to most players every weekend. Louza exceptional. We will really miss him now. Sissoko everywhere. Sema ok defensively but absolutely garbage in possession. King worked hard as always. Even defensively we did well today (apart from the obvious) and deserved something from that game. Sadly whether you deserve something or not is irrelevant, we took nothing! Just like I said in the Summer, this defence is sh*t and not Premier League quality. People need to lose their jobs over this shoddy recruitment of our defence since our last relegation! How did we think Kiko, Masina, Cathcart and Kabasele, who all failed last time, would be enough to keep us up this time!? Most people said on here that WTE would get found out horribly at this level! JP another great cameo performance off the bench and HAS to be starting! Getting bored of him not getting his chance. Felt people have been a bit unfair on Dennis in the first half, just think it was more a case of Spurs not letting him get in the game than an attitude problem. I guess we will find out why he came off and in the next few weeks we will see if he's sulking or not. Absolutely gutting today! Gutting!
It's never an inevitable goal that late in the game. All comes down to poor concentration, composure and decision making from our ****** defence.
Losing faith in Ranieri too. Kucka played well but at 34 he’s tired by 60th let alone the 96th. Louza looked fresh and energetic yet he took him off for Clevs instead. Baffling sub again for me.
Really awful game. The first half was probably the worst I've seen this team play this season. Absolutely abysmal. Ken Sema might as well not have bothered coming out for all the use he was. I was surprised he didn't get hooked for Cucho at HT. I wonder what's going on with Dennis.
Probably explains some of the more negative reactions, then. I was a bit baffled as were weren't bad based on what I saw. Even the neutrals are saying we deserved something from the match (e.g. Butcher on the Beeb: "They showed belief and thoroughly deserved to get something from this game and but for two contentious refereeing decisions, they would have.").
No consolation I know, but at least we did not get the thrashing most of us expected, having said that I still feel like ****
Disagree that it confirms anything. I would suggest it proves Claudio can adapt when necessary and, had the game not been stopped (hopefully everyone involved is ok), we may have come away with a point. My biggest concern is that Pozzbury look at today and say the defence isn't too bad.
There was basically no positive in the first half other than 'Spurs didn't score', and they didn't actually really look like they were trying that hard to. We were smarter in the second half, with JP the difference really, but we all know what then happened.
Enough to rule him out of the AFCON? Definitely not thinking it's a conspiracy on Louza's part because he actively chose Morocco early in the season, but it would be nice if we didn't have to go without him for the whole tournament!
Wouldn't be surprised if Gino goes for his patented 'new manager bounce' given the next 2 league opponents. Really hope the masses wake up and turn on him massively if he does.
I bet that Royale bloke couldn't believe the amount of space he kept getting down our left. Acres and acres of it. Good job he couldn't cross accurately or we would indeed have got our thrashing.
Didn't look like that in the Rookery looked more like JP knocked it with the outside of his foot to the left and the keeper slid in to him. You don't get the luxury of 3 replays from different angles at the game so not sure why you are baffled.
Was it stupid or was it more a tired challenge against a very tricky player?! Either way, it wasn't that that cost us it was the pathetic defending from the free-kick.
What happened to us pressing the opposition and going at them from minute one? Why has that just been scrapped since Brentford away? It seems we’ve just decided to be an ultra defensive, hoofball team ever since Brentford away, and we’ve been shocking. Our defenders are shocking, we won’t be picking up any points sitting back and playing ultra defensively. This is a Tottenham team that couldn’t break down a 10 man Southampton the other day, so they’re not exactly setting the world alight. We did look brighter in the second half admittedly and Kucka actually looks better in the defensive position than his midfield position. Pedro should be picked ahead of Sema or Cucho, he looks much better than either of them. The next two games will likely decide what league we’ll be playing in next season.
Munoz and Ranieri have tried pressing teams, sitting off teams, defending high and defending deep and game after game individual and collective mistakes from the defence have let them down. It's quite unbelievable that these players are at this level and can't even do the basics. Troost-Ekong can't head or kick a ball straight or basically do anything right, Sierralta gives the ball back to the opposition within 5 seconds of getting it, Cathcart refuses to communicate with teammates, Kabasele is a brainfart waiting to happen and also can't kick a football properly, Masina cannot stop a cross to save his life and goes charging out of position, Kiko has absolutely no defensive awareness, Rose is overweight and can't be bothered to track runners.
It was stupid. He was coming from behind and just tripped Son who was already being stood up by a defender who was close in front of him. Absolutely needless, tired or not.
Fair enough - but plenty of incidents don't look like what they actually were in real time, thats all I'll say. JP definitely didn't knock the ball to the left....sadly. For clarification, I'm baffled at those who were watching on screens and still say it was a penalty.
Totally gutted tonight I do think Dennis was kept out by spurs and they had done their work on him, Pedro seemed to give more energy countering and really was a big part of the change in appetite in the second half. For me if it was a switch it seemed a good decision. And no way was it a penalty
Wait! On the balance of admitting mistakes.....I will now. NBC have just shown it from a different angle on a freeze-frame. It WAS a penalty. Joao Pedro gets there first with his RIGHT-FOOT and toes the ball in the direction it goes. It's so close to Lloris hands that it looks like he got the ball. My error. Apologies for those I questioned.
You can’t expect Pozzo to try to acquire premier league defenders. We aren’t a club the size of Birmingham City you know.
I'm watching on a dubious river and it looked to me like Pedro got there first and was taken out. I said on the shoutbox it was either a pen or lloris got a bit lucky he got a hand to it. I'll take your word for it that lloris got the ball first before contact. The ref blowing when JP was about to score goal of the season is still irking me though.
