Wow that’s a throwback. Could well be right. I genuinely asked without knowing the answer.

We certainly appear to have got close to one over the last couple of seasons, with lots of stories about swaps for Sarr (there was one with Dennis I think) and of course a sort-of-swap involving Gaspar and Femenia (which we were told wasn’t officially an exchange) but I cannot think of a more recent one than the one @Teide1 mentioned!

 

I don't know if there is a more recent one, but the non Udinese got me thinking, I will try and do some research later when free and see if I can come up with another one, we had a " buy one get one free " when we paid Millwall 400k for Moralee and got Pitcher thrown in! which I know isn't the same but is another interesting scenario!

 

Any noticeable absentees from Udinese's squad yesterday? Or players who didn't get on?

I think Dereck Payne was part of the Mooney/Dublin package as well?

 

Could well be his year. Would genuinely be like a new player.

 

Hmmmm I didn't think he was....but was around the same time and from the same club so maybe...

 

That's my vague memory as well, seem to think it was Payne we actually wanted and Mooney was a bit of a makeweight in the deal, odd given how he turned out. Probably made that up though?

 

Payne signed Summer 94, Mooney Loan March 94, permanent Summer 94. Two separate deals from Southend. Roeder knew him from his Gillingham days when Payne was at Barnet.
Payne was a Postie at Harrow Sorting Office only a few years before.

After just one season at Southend he arrived at Watford – initially on loan, before eventually signing for £95,000 in July 1994 as a 'makeweight' alongside midfielder Derek Payne, with Keith Dublin moving in the opposite direction.

 

I don't think Etienne Camarra is getting anywhere near the pitch for Udinese anytime soon, was on the bench last night but Serie A teams can have up to 15 players on the bench.
