I’m sure you’ll have lots of beach fun, like this couple.

People banging on about World War Two, claiming others fought and died for this or that reason to boost a present day argument of theirs, usually a dodgy one.

During the war you wouldn't have had people moaning about people banging on about what they did during the last war. They'd have been 'eros I tells you.

Anyone who fought in the war is at least 100 years old now, so no one is moaning about people banging on about things they actually did.

At one time the Second World War was a convenient way of dividing the 20th century, particularly since much activity such as in sport was suspended for its duration. But for how much longer can it be used in phrases like “the highest/best/longest since the war” with any meaning?

Must be confusing for people in the USA with that Country having been at war for 93% of its existence.

As a purist I would posit that a staycation involves not moving from your sofa for a fortnight aided by nothing but a bucket and 14 bottles of whiskey .

But to be fair that’s what I do when I go abroad as well . Same thing but with bigger carbon footprint .

In the abscence of a thread titled things that mildly annoy me

1- When you watch something on delay but accidentally flick over to another channel to check something that you re not really interested in anyway and then lose your delayed view on original thing you really wanted to watch .
2- Forgetting that Snails come out at night and so when I go for a bare foot late night ciggie, and get the horrible little cxnts decimated and squashed bodies in between my toes . And then I feel guilty about it , even though I hate them which makes me hate them even more .
3- Phone waiting systems that spend 5 minutes asking your personal details and the when you eventually get through to a human they proceed to ask you all the same questions because your answers were never being logged in the first place .

Costco delaying the delivery of a wedding cake that has been on order for two months three days before the wedding.

    That is terrible.
My daughter has just had her reception venue cancel two weeks before her booking.
    I feel your pain.

My grandfather never spoke about the war. The only story he ever told was about when he was taken prisoner. The German officer looked him in the eye and said "OK schweinhund you have a choice. I can blow your brains out right now or you can let me f*ck you up the arse and then I'll let you go." Of course, he chose the former

I purchased a Watford shirt online for my son, paid for it and (a week later) because you guys chose Brexit, I have to pay an extra €25 in VAT to have it delivered. If I do not pay it, it will be returned to the Hornets’ shop. This type of thing would clearly put Irish and EU citizens well off buying things from the good old Brits!

A school friend of mine clearly still thinks this means “lots of love”, which led to an unfortunate WhatsApp exchange after a mutual friend of ours died very suddenly and prematurely from cancer recently. It seemed fitting, though, as it was the kind of thing our friend would have found funny.

Being told that a few trees catching fire in Greece is further evidence of global warming. Utter crap

Yet another subject that you will simply reject any evidence about until your eyebrows are on fire.

It’s certainly not just a few trees and it’s right across Southern Europe to Turkey. Were we not so obsessed with our own navels here it would be, along with the US fires and Canadian heatwave, the biggest news story.

A fire - started either deliberately or by a carelessly flicked fag - is not a sign of global warming.

I can kind of understand brexiters and anti vaxers a little bit, there is at least some logic hidden away there somewhere, but climate change deniers? I don’t get it? What possible benefit is there in denying it or pretending it isn’t actually a thing? I guess maybe not wanting to change certain behaviours like consuming vast amounts of meat or not liking electric cars? Beats me either way.

But surely lack of rain and heat contribute to the extent of these fires even if they are started accidentally/deliberately?

Guardian reports that the area burned in Turkey this year is eight times higher than the average.

  31. Lloyd

    Lloyd Squad Player

Of course, but there are other non-global warming factors involved too, such as wind strength, change of land use (less grazing and agriculture means more flammable trees and scrubland), 'green' policies that restrict the cutting of vegetation to make fire breaks means more 'fuel'... etc etc
The fires in Europe and the US have understandably made the headlines but overall - on a global level - the total area burned by wild fires has, apparently, actually fallen over the past decades. I'm not a climate change heretic, I just wish some of the reporting of these event was slightly less hysterical

There is also the issue of the changing dispersion of such phenomena, with increasing concentration of, say, excessive forest fires in certain regions alongside significantly increased & dangerous levels of flooding in others. The overall global average of both may not be greatly increased, but the impact on habitability in both sets of regions is seriously negative.
