Did you hear the conversation? If a teacher can insist that there are 100 genders and that a person is whatever they self identify as, then a teenager is entitled to challenge that if it makes absolutely no sense to them. It was literally what was claimed by the 'GC warriors,' a teacher indoctrinating a class in gender ideology.
The recording is painful listening. The teacher is floundering, explaining poorly what she means and then nastily suggests the child should find another school. So far so bad. But there are a number of other issues here. We don’t get the whole conversation, what the teaching aims were here (and like I say, the right to identify as the gender you choose is the law of this land and there is no reason why it can’t be taught) and how it got to that point. That’s for the school to investigate, not for the daughter of a gender critical activist to provide edited chunks to the Telegraph so it can pursue its culture war. The teacher may need a rocket up the backside about how to teach and how to deal with gobby teenagers. She may not be up to it. That’s not for the mob to decide, it’s a very slippery slope indeed. And in no way does this prove that some lunatic ideology has taken over our schools. Many, many decades ago, I royally took the piss out of teaching I received at school, ridiculous justifications of British colonialism, market capitalism, gender and racial stereotypes. Pure ideology. Mostly I got sent out of class rather than thanked for my patient disembowling of the prejudices of the day. If only I had social media back then to shame the prejudices of older teachers, thankfully now consigned to the dustbin. Of course it would have been awful. I was gobby and annoying (yes, yes I know). Back the teachers and trust them to sort out any overreach. Lynch mobs are the worst of all.
