The Official United States of America Presidential Race Thread

As the results are being studied, it looks like the 10% of the voting population that is African-American voted 2-1 in favor of Prop 8. Very interesting...

I heard a friend characterize it like this:
"I am cool with "Change" and "Progress" but I ain't down with the gay thing."

Black people tend to go to church at much higher rates than white liberals, so the two voting blocks are coming from totally different perspectives.

I am interested to see what the black artists community that develops opinions for many Americans do with this information. I am particularly interested in what Chris Rock has to say.

 

obama today indicated he was retracting the global gag rule (mexico city policy), restrictions on stem cell research and banning utah oil drilling. i mention this because my feminism lecturer at university (lesbian, utah-han) is probably still pissed that clinton lost

Don't take this the wrong way, an act not uncommon on these boards, but I don't like the whole racial thing that the media and the speakers here are bigging up. Yes, it's good we've got a black president, but that doesn't mean the blacks should now be seen as special. It's a sign that after years of struggle equality has been earned, and now suddenly it's gone again with all of these 'african american' people suddenly popping up and playing big parts in the ceremony and stuff despite not being up to it (see Mrs Franklin) and everyone seems to think they have to have a say: Jay-Z said something pretty brilliant, but bloody Oprah though she'd be all philosophical and fist-pumping and said some *******s. And Obama's quality is not that he's black, it's that he's a charismatic bloke who's promising the right stuff (whether he does it or not is another thing).

Also, this John Williams stuff is crap.

Also, how come you're not allowed to teach religion in schools, but you can have some fat ******* with crap facial hair preach some *******s about *******s.

Also, he's completely pissed up this pledge.

Fan I accept your prediction was spot on, and well done. However I would classify this kind of prediction up there with making predictions about the plot lines in Neighbours. My friends and I had great fun doing that at university and 8/10 times I should say we were correct. I don't think it's surprising the world leaders want to meet Obama, the next prediction should be which one of them will be the first to officially meet him. I'm going to go with Sarkozy.
