Because the other mens quarter final today is an all American affair and the schedulers want a bigger tv audience for that one

And they probably knew Djokovic would win well .

American scheduling or to be more accurate,US Open scheduling has always been dreadful.

Gone are the days, thank goodness of 'Super Saturday '. A Men's Semi Final ( noon), Ladies' Final ( anytime from 3pm to 6pm potentially) and then the second men's match.
I think the men's winner came from the first match, unsurprisingly, from something like 12/14 years.

It's a little better now but especially if there are home players, they'll always play at post work time.

In fairness the AE do the same with Murray. He complained this year.

Harry Searle loses to brother of qualifier and WC American, sorry name escapes me!

    Hannah Klugman wins v 14th seed 4&4.

    Muchova beats Cristea easily.
Shelton the Serve will play Djokovic.

Sky keep saying that Sabalenka lost to Raducanu in the 2021 semi final but she didn’t. She lost in three sets to Leyla Fernandes.

With her win today, she has now reached 7 grand slam semi finals and so far only won one of them. She’s a real choker in the last four, as witnessed most sharply in Paris this summer.

I’d love a Coco v Saba final though. That would be a great showpiece!

Medvedev is correct, someone will die in such conditions with their level of play.

Hseih! She sure makes a mockery of the coaching world!

    Remarkable lady,great match.

All Russian quarter final was rather one sided?

It does seem like very extreme weather to play in.

The American dream is still on then.

    Good win for Keys.

Wonder if Vondrou*ová was affected by the injury she had in the last round ?

Undoubtedly as was Hannah Klugman who scratched from her QF.

Ram and 'Sal is berry' in the doubles final.

Astonishing match between Gordon Reid and Martin De La Puente in the QF.

Reid recovered from a set and 4-1 down to win 4 in the 3rd.

    One set a bagel.

Next 2 decided with a tie break.

    Classic WTA scoreline?

    Sabalenka dominating both.

So it's the young American hero v the hard hitting powerful Belarusian.

I think we all know who the media will be supporting!

Suspect Djokovic will be quite happy about that .

    Outstanding story in the mixed.

Danilina and Heliovaara, meeting in the ref's office just before the sign in closed, paired up and won the title.

    Danilina was exceptional throughout.

    Both ecstatic at the end.

    Joyous.

A first set memorable for the persistent gibberish spouted by Konta.

    Why $ky?

I’m so pleased for her, and quite chuffed I tipped her as the winner before the tournament. A rare event!

@I Blame Bassett was totally right to point out when I did so, that Gauff’s all round game still has deficiencies but my oh my how she’s worked this fortnight to overcome them, and what huge heart she has to constantly dig in and keep coming back from a set down. It might not be over dramatising it to say that awful first round loss at Wimbledon will be looked back in the future as a turning point in her career. How well she’s bounced back from it. In a way I don’t think she could have had a better opponent last night than Sabalenka, who sadly Melbourne apart, usually seems to find a way to fold under pressure. Witness her two semis at RG and Wimbledon this year. Even from a set down I was still confident she’d win last night and sure enough the Sabalenka serve and forehand duly obliged!

A worthy winner and a fine champion from the human being perspective and all it entails too for the women’s game.

Just need DM to win the men’s today now. He has a real chance I feel.

    Congratulations to Gauff.

She won because she was far superior when defending.

Her athletic prowess neutralised many points that Sabalenka then insisted on trying to hit harder than the previous shot. I saw her play one shot with guile in the entire match.

See ball, hit ball. She cottoned on a couple of times by going back in behind but that is when you do wait, especially with someone as fast as Gauff. Let them run back to the vacant court and then in behind.

Gormless strategy or actually no strategy at all.

Is that a well done Malt for your correct prediction? ;)

I really like Saba as a person but she’s such a one-dimensional player who, as you say, doesn’t seem able to think on her feet. I was pleased she won her slam earlier this year and she’s been very consistent all year but world number one hmmm?

I’m quite sad the women’s tournament is all over, especially as our weather seems to be breaking now. Some really good matches, great fight-backs and a worthy winner! The game is in good health.

    Congratulations Djokovic.

Another achievement to add to his record .

Definitely sounds like it was a much closer match that the scoreline suggests .

I think Novak just knows when to up his game and take control.

I watched the first 2 sets.

First set Novak broke early which was enough to win it.

Second set was brutal. Looong rallies, 1 hour and 45 minutes. I was hoping Novak would get over the line first in the tiebreak and he got it done.

If she's guilty she should never play again.

    If.

    Well done Djokovic.

The best athletes won at FM.

I told our S and C guys and girls that they have the power now.

The 8-10 year olds at the Regional Player Development Centre we have are all amazing ball strikers,a few technical imperfections but so do all players.

It will be the most athletic, the best physical specimens that have a shot at being an elite player.

That's why the AE have put about 10m into developing Roehampton for qualies.

They know they won't be able to complete on the golf course for at least 10 years.

Roehampton site is unrecognisable to when I played there in the late 80s, early 90s.

I’ve given up hoping for my ‘well done Malts’ post from the main contributor on this thread for predicting the US open winner before it started lol.

Maybe she’s still in shock at both the actual winner and the fact I finally got something right ;)

Slightly busy at present with our programme and trying to instill a modicum of professionalism into the club coaches, track down an absent submission for a coaching award etc etc.
