Watford got some praise today. Was the third mentioned in the three up three down. Adrian Durham conceded that Watford have not had much recognition this season, but being 7th at this stage deserves a mention.

MotD said something similar over the weekend that Watford have not been mentioned much this season, before Shearer piped up with his stock answer how well we've done with 15 new players and a new manager, a quote he's made on several occasions.

We actually have a manager who relies more on shouting and showing passion which Sherwood was all about.

They talk about the all the singings made but actually it could be argued our form as been as much down to those already at the club?

Plus with the exception of Ake and maybe Jurado, all of our signings were most probably planned, and possibly in some cases all but sealed, as far back as January.

Hopefully whoever phoned in mentioned that (1) we bought mostly older players whereas Villa brought in youth (2) we bought players from La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League, Villa brought in players from Ligue 1 and the Championship (3) we plan our transfers months in advance, which I can't imagine Villa are doing (4) we've been able to implement players gradually because of the form of our pre-existing players, Villa have been let down by almost all their squad (5) A typical player would prefer for play for someone like QSF than for Sherwood or Garde.

Collymore hates that little old Watford and Bournemouth are successful rather than Leeds and Forest (actual real clubs with history...) In fact from the little I've heard of him he harps on about club's history more than anything else - no doubt his dream is to create some kind of time-travelling paradox league featuring each of the "big teams" when they were at their best...

Given the levels of fitness and professionalism these days you'd expect Premier League teams would annihilate the likes of Liverpool, Watford and Leeds from the 70's and 80's.

I confess I find Stan "The Man" completely unlistenable-to. The very moment I hear his shouty, brummie voice I have to switch off or switch over to 5-Dead. I therefore I have no idea what he says about us.

If I had to guess though & would guess he doesn't like us much. I hope that helps the debate.

He has got a point of sorts, not that I agree to any degree. The Premiership, whether we like it or not, is a brand disguised as a football competition. Clubs like Bournemouth, Leicester, Swansea, ourselves, just do not fit into their view of what the Premiership should be.

Eventually, if many more teams are able to compete due to the money, there will be a drop in interest. I know it sounds bizarre but not everyone gives a toss about an across the board competitive league. The majority of the audience want Man Utd v Arsenal, or Man Utd v pretty much anyone if we're honest.

We look at this from the correct sporting point of view. It's great we can compete. Trust me we are among the few because the big guns, their many global supporters and those that run The Premiership do not think this way. Those at the top will already be working on a way of stopping it happening. EPPP didn't work? What else can we try?

PS. I hate this idea and also think collymore is a ******.

I see this as the big business philosophy of 'too big to fail'.

According to the woman beater, any team with a fan base of 30k plus should be in the PL? Well as soon as Villa's relegation is confirmed I'm going to spam him with tweets.

The guy is a shock jock and a complete twunt.

I'll tell you why this is rubbish

Big clubs dont stay big clubs forever and little clubs dont stay little clubs forever

Football is a sea of change

In the 1920's Huddersfield won 3 league titles in a row and won the FA cup

In 1960 Burnley were champions and were in the top 5 for the next few years

Blackpool were one of the biggest clubs in the country in the 1940s and 1950s

Are they considered ' giants' of the footballing world because of their history? I doubt any average premier league fan would be aware of this

Its hardly affected the popularity of the Premier league with their lack of success in the top flight

Leeds United were a nothing club until Don Revie became manger in the 1960s

Clubs create history by what they do now as well. Professional football has only been around for 130 years

In 50 years time there will probably be a few other teams that are big when they used to be small

No automatic relegation. Small fry should know their place and will not be allowed to be promoted from the Championship, even it they win the league. We need to go back to the election process, with Stan Collymore as chairman of this.

Only ex-winners of the European Cup can be allowed to enter the Champions League as well.

League placement will be on stadium capacity and club history. Not recent history though, just history from 20 years and beyond should count. Ancient history doesn't count though, or that would give Preston and Notts County a chance, and cannot allow that.

This would be Stan's new Premier League.

    Arsenal
    Aston Villa
    Manchester United
    Manchester City
    Chelsea
    Liverpool
    Everton
    Leeds United
    Sheffield Massive
    Nottingham Forest
    Tottenham Hotspur
    Wolverhampton Wanderers
    West Bromwich Albion
    Coventry City
    Birmingham City
    Walsall
    Leicester City
    Derby County
    Sheffield United
    Newcastle United
    Sunderland
    West Ham United

Is that not exactly the point though. Two teams who are in effect doing **** this season and haven't been a force for a number of years yet Sky probably flagged this as a "big" Championship encounter.

The 'big' teams in the Championship are there because they deserve to be there, whether that's because of mismanagement off the field or on it. Us and Bournemouth deserve to be in this league and I don't give a **** if Stan Collymore or any armchair fans across the world don't fancy watching us on tv.

Women deserve to be hit because they're not as big as men. If a woman upstart achieves success, it is a breach of the natural order so she needs beating back to her proper station.

Collymore is an idiot. He never listens to anyone and shouts over them until the producer cuts them off. He is an angry half-wit as far as I'm concerned. In regards to his comment about Leeds vs Newcastle being a much preferred game, potentially but I don't consider a team who have been in the lower leagues for 15 years vs a team who hasn't won anything since the 70's a big game. The scalps that us and Bournemouth are producing will make them popular on their own. The premier league is only watched for the big 5. If Sheffield Wednesday were to return to the premier league, only people in the UK would class them as a big club.

In Collymore's eyes Parma should be introduced to the Premier League regardless of their mismanagement or the fact they are in Italy because they would be classed as a 'big' club

I predict that a few years from now, thanks to success & our cosmopolitan appeal, we will have more fans WORLDWIDE than either Leeds or Newcastle.

    Then who's the big club?

I doubt that Leeds have many fans abroad who are not ex-pats. They haven't won anything since 1992, just before the ultra-exposure of the PL. Apart from a few years where they finished top 4 and got to the CL semis they would have been well off the radar, and this being their 12th season since relegation they are not going to be on anyone's radar now.

    Agree

I cant imagine there are many Leeds fan clubs in foreign countries when nobody under 35 is going to remember them winning anything

Obviously I'm biased as a I support a little club like Watford but I've never understood this big club rubbish. Tesco are a big business but it doesn't mean they deserve to do well every year at the expense of smaller businesses and I doubt anybody feels sorry for them that they haven't been performing well of late. Leeds were grossly mismanaged and are where they deserve to be, tough for the fans but nobody has a divine right to play in the Premiership and what an utterly dull sport it would be if the league was made up of teams with the 20 biggest stadiums and fan bases.

Listening tonight and the presenter asked who the '3 wise men' were in terms of league managers.

Two people answered, and this is how they voted..

    Ranieri 2
    Howe 2
    Pardew 1
    Pellegrini 1

    Couldn't believe QSF wasn't picked.

Still laugh at that award if nothing else that he has only been managing for 6 years. Granted 6, mostly, very good years but it's almost like "he's soooo good he only needs just over half a decade to win manager of the decade".

It was only one guy who went with Howe in that three wise men thing on TalkSport. Even Ray Stubbs was incredulous that it could be anything but ranieri, Pardew and Florres.

On a similar subject, did you hear Micky Quinn give his "bacon roll" award to Blackpool above Leicester being top of the prem at Christmas? Further proof, if any were needed, that the station is made up of clueless wind up merchants.
