Another foreigner, who do we drop? Can't help but think Penaranda would have fit in to the squad nicely this year without taking up a spot (being U21). Hopefully Okaka can come in and do a similar job to what Troy did last year and will be capable of again when he's shifted a few pounds!
I don't know. I've Based my assessment on the fact that he's 27 and has had one season of healthy goal scoring in his career to date, in the Belgian league. Hoped we'd get in someone at least at Vydra standard. Someone I'd feel confident could step in. Feels like another Michel Ngonge.
Putting aside his criminal activities for a moment, I doubt very much that this bloke is as good as Marlon was for us.
Ugh. Bored of mediocre foreign journeyman signings already. Let's start how many appearances this guy before being moved on. I say more than 2 but less than 6
So pretty much nobody knows who this bloke is and only one or two have seen him play but based on this and on somebody equally not itk saying he's pants, we've written him off!! I think most of us wanted Vydra to stay but the last two coaches, both of which have coached at pretty much the highest level, didn't think he would be good enough. They see him train every day for a decent period of time and neither wanted him. Seems fair enough. We now think Vydra should have stayed because of the opinion of Deeney. Deeney is a good footballer but nothing I've ever heard him say makes me think he is the man I would trust to make decisions on players. A good player but so was Barnes and look at the tripe he spouts. Give the guy a chance. One other thing, the hornet23/hornetgags soap opera is ****ing boring
Look, he's been irritating everyone on this and other threads and others have responded to him as well and you single me out. So get over yourself for 2 seconds and direct it at him, I want to discuss and debate not antagonise...which is not what he wants to do. So I post a clapping seal, click on my name and click on ignore - I'm not forcing you to read it.
Truth is, literally nobody can truly predict how good he'll be for us. We can guesstimate but you just never know. As has been stated, nobody had high expectations for Ighalo when he arrived and look how that turned out. I do echo the sentiment that if this guy is just a 3rd/4th choice striker then what was the harm in keeping Vydra? Unless Vyds wanted to leave himself. Anyway, that's all done now, we've just spent £7.5 million on a BACK UP striker and people are moaning!? It may not look the most exciting signing on paper and he may just do a job this season and be off the next but let's give him a chance first, some on here are slowly turning into slightly spoilt entitled fans. HOWEVER, I do question Luke Dowling's role in all this? Not seeing any indication of a focus on young HG talent like he had suggested. I actually would've been more excited by us bringing in someone I knew like Nakhi Wells for £7 million or Kodjia or even a £10 million bid for Rhodes who was left out of Boro's last PL matchday squad. I don't even know why, it'd just be good!
He looks a big strong bloke who can play in cup ties and late in matches when we need a big strong bloke who's not named Deeney. That way Deeney doesn't have to play every minute of every match. Seems a worthwhile player to have around for a year or two, until we either see if Oulare etc., can step in, or we buy someone else.
If "awesome" means bit part player for a year and a bit before being moved on, then yes he was awesome. But he was also a free transfer, not £7.5m.
56 appearances and 11 goals in less than 2 seasons does not suggest a bit part player. Certainly isn't my memory of him. He just wasn't good enough to step up to the PL - same as most of our squad as it turned out.
TBF I think most of us wanted Vydra to stay because of what we saw with our own 2 eyes over 2 seasons not what Troy said. We probably saw more of him than the managers who chose not to kick up a fuss about him being moved on. Just watched the Okaka goals highlights. Just imagine how excited we'd have been about signing Vydra now based on a goal highlights video for him ! .
6 goals as striker in our promotion season. Total of 11 in 56 mainly due to high sub appearances. As I say, bit part player but free transfer so low risk. I think the only player GT Said he signed on video alone.
Really? Do you think that's how it works? Really? We were going to pay £16m for Boufal. Where was that going to come from?
They asked for 10m Euro - £8m Villa and Norwich had bids in the £5-£6m range turned down So £7.5m feels like the fee to me
What do you mean "how it works"? I just made the simple point that pretty much all the supposedly "fantastic" money we got from selling Vydra has been spent on this 27 year old with one good season in the Belgian league who others on this thread are accepting will be 4th choice striker. Boufal is irrelevant. The fact we beat 2 champ sides to sign him says it all.
Without the terrible hunchback, wretched attitude and creative language*! If he gives Troy a metaphorical kick up the bottom then it's a plus before he even plays to my mind. I hope he isn't translating this thread, poor chap will be wondering what he's let himself in for. * Not that I heard!
Why are you comparing Okaka to Vydra? Why even bring Vydra into the conversation? They are completely different types of strikers Vydra could never back up Troy Deeney, he was toilet as a target man / complete forward We needed cover for Troy - big powerful front man, good in the air etc. That's not quite Iggy's game. Oulare wasn't ready and has gone on loan. I imagine we considered people like Gestede etc. Okaka provides that.
Some reports from Holland say he'd fallen out with the club & they wanted shot of him, suggesting it was as low as 6M Euros. Unless there's a formal announcement we'll probably never know for sure.
Whether he is good or bad, I don't know. But seeing that him and Sven Kums have the same agent and seemingly the deals done at the same time given the photos with shirt being held up, wouldn't surprise me for one minute to see him loaned to Udinese before the window slams shut tomorrow night. I just cannot see him competing with what we have already to make this a viable transfer solely for Watford.
Didn't you just on another thread admonish fans for thinking this guy isn't good enough, even though you think he's not good enough?
Both strikers. One sold this week, one bought. Similar money. So who is Ighalo back up? Sinclair the winger ? Does only Troy need one ? Doesnt Ighalo need one as we assume he is immune from injury and will suddenly start banging in the goals a la 2015 rather than 2016?
I've said I feel he won't compete with what we have got and the main point of my post is I see him going to Udinese. Theres a difference between that and saying the guy is point blank terrible as some are suggesting.
