Which is itself a knock on from not bringing in Krul or another PL standard homegrown goalkeeper before the deadline. Still, for old Brice it's not bad work of you can get it. Thousands of pounds a week for doing fark all. Wonder if we'll cut our losses and try to ship him out to somewhere where the transfer window is still open?
Surprised as I thought Djedje had some potential. I would have left Gilmartim as no3 but arranged for him to have a 'little accident' if Gomes gets injured before the Pantyman is back. I'm sure the Pozzos have some Italian connections for such a job. We could then get an emergency loan in.
New exotic addition to the u21 list - Eduardo Montenegro Zuniga (no relation). Can't find much info but appears he's a Colombian 17/18 year old who was on Udinese's books but has now quietly been moved across to us. Think all the rest of the foreign u21s were here already but happy to be corrected. Edit: Actually, it seems that he's moved directly to us from Udinese's football school in Colombia, on a 5 year deal. We've loaned him to Granada, with the loan starting 1st Jan 2017.
Kaikay and Mukena are new too. Edit: But both are English it seems. Kaikay was playing for our academy in August but not on the list given to the PL that month. And Mukena was registered by Spurs in August but now appears on our list.
I don't blame the club for that, it gives them a chance to really assess the injury and the direction of his recovery without putting pressure (publicly at least) on Pereyra to come back on any predetermined time frame. Actually thinks it's quite good of the club for the player, especially given the nature of the injury.
From the official site: Roberto Pereyra is not named in the squad due to the serious knee injury he suffered against Manchester City in mid-December, while Brice Dja Djédjé is also not included as he continues to recover fully from a long-term foot injury. Has he really got a foot injury, he played on Sunday?
Janmaat can, but should never be played at CB again. Which leaves 5. If we're playing 3 at the back and someone gets injured/suspended then all of a sudden we're looking pretty light. Are you sure there's a recall clause in Hobans loan?
No I don't know for certain if Hoban has a recall clause, but I think it is quite common for us to have such a clause when we loan out players.
It's a real shame we only have 23 of the 25 players we are allowed in our squad. Does anyone know if we would be allowed to add two HG players to our squad, if we were able to find a couple who are free agents.
18 months in to our premiership life, naming our 3rd squad and there are a lot of issues that have been highlighted. The depth of the squad, either the lack of HG senior players, ok only 2, not having a 3rd choice keeper of a standard that they can be trusted for at least half a game and the lack of quality U21 players. You would like to think that there are some pretty serious questions being asked about recruitment and development going on within the club. The great thing is that looks a pretty decent squad and barring the full back positions pretty well covered. There is no doubt that in the summer we need to be loooking at bringing in 1 maybe 2 HG keepers, 1 RB, 2LB, replace Marriappa and another striker.
Is that right? I thought in the prem the squad is fixed until next window, in the league you can add free agents
The way I understand it, and it may not be right, is that you can make additions but not changes. So if you have an empty slot you can fill it with a free agent outside of the transfer window. But you can't sign the free agent and then boot an already registered player from the squad list.
Daft that we have 3 overseas keepers. I would have tinned Pantillimon on injury grounds and put Brice in.
That was my impression too. It does sound like the recruitment team look and tried to bring a good quality HG keeper in this window, it does seem the most obvious and easy to bulk out the squad for non-HG players having at least 1 decent keeper as HG. The situation with Djedje is pretty bonkers when you consider if Pereyra were fit Pants injury or not he'd still miss out you imagine. It's hard to tell if it's been squad mismanagement or oppourutnites to sign players they weren't expecting to arose who were too good to turn down. The squad is looking very good though, gutted we won't see Pereyra until next season now, you get the feeling he was just kicking up a gear so really unfortunate especially as he'd now have Cleverley who uses the ball well in midfield to play off and Niang/Success to find. As others have said a starting HG keeper to rival/overtake Gomes as #1 along with a good quality either U21 or HG keeper as 3rd choice will give them so much more freedom with the rest of the squad. Also, Gilmartin is absolutely stealing a living getting named in a premier league squad he must be laughing. They couldn't even trust to just have him as back up for a few weeks they'd rather leave someone they spend a few million quid on at the start of the seasn.
No mention of Ally Malle in our U21s, is he actually our player? Seems to have started well in La Liga Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk
As if in response to your post, the club finally confirm he is our player. Nice one Norn! https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/three-top-players-watford It does beg the question, why isn't he officially registered as an u21 player like some of the others though.
probably because there's zero chance of him returning this season. The fact that Penaranda is included makes me think there might be a work permit on the horizon...
Doubt it. Think I read that he was denied one for this season and since then he has lost his place in the national team and hardly played any minutes in a top European league. He'll be less likely to get one now than he was at the beginning of the season, where at least he was coming off a full season at Granada and was a regular for Venezuela. It also makes it harder to make the case that he's an exceptional talent if he can't get in the team of lower mid-table La Liga and Serie A teams.
Looks very raw, but has great balance and a fantastic ability to drift past other players https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oECnS2kOBwg
Fair point. In which case why not also register Malle unless it's already too late for him to become HG whatever we do?
Next season we're going to have all wingers and CBs. Mazzarri is going to have to use his fabled tactical ingenuity to create a new formation to encompass. 4-0-6 could be the new 4-2-3-1
