The transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow I believe. Anyone know when the revised squads are announced?
GK. Gomes GK. Pantillimon GK. Gilmartin * DF. Britos DF. Kabasele DF. Kaboul DF. Prodl DF. Marriappa * DF. Cathcart * DF. Zuniga DF. Holebas DF. Janmaat DF. Dja DjeDje DF. Mason (U21) MF. Capoue MF. Behrami MF. Watson * MF. Doucoure MF. Amrabat MF. Cleverly * FW. Deeney * FW. Zarate FW. Niang FW. Okaka FW. Success (U21) Presumably Leaving... MF. Guedioura FW. Ighalo FW. Sinclair (loan) Injured MF. Pereyra Not too sure what we'll see tomorrow. Most likely is a move for a HG keeper to replace Gilmartin in the squad. Begovic would be great but will probably end up with someone like Alex McCarthy. Southampton are buying a new keeper so he's gonna drop down the pecking order. I think that we definitely need to bring in a centre back. We have 2 HG spaces free in the squad so perhaps a surprise move for someone tomorrow?
Now we have Dja Djedje, I feel Zunigas role in the team is redundant. We have plenty of right back cover and plenty of midfielders above him in the pecking order. Yes he is a useful utility player, but we could send him back, free up a space in the squad and sign a quality ball playing centre back.
Why would you get rid of a utility player who could fill in the gaps in the event of continued injuries and not get rid of one of our existing centre backs if we were to bring in another one? Britos is ok but awful with the ball, Cathcart is struggling with something still clearly, Kabasele has potential but still goes to ground too quickly, Mariappa isn't good enough, neither is Kaboul and Prodl had a fantastic start but even he has started to make stupid errors. Money needs to be spent on top quality centre backs who don't have a history of injury, are mobile and can pass a bloody football since we refuse to buy a holding midfielder who can dictate the play. Oh yeah and if they could defend that would help.
With Pants out for 4 weeks I think we are going to have to pick Arlauskis and sacrifice Gilmartin. It's not really a position we can gamble with and Arlauskis is clearly the better option if we need back up to Gomes It does of course take one more overseas place. It could be goodbye to Amrabat
I'm not sure how though. Zarate & Niang replace Ighalo & Gueds in the non-HG squad. Someone else needs to go.
Somebody doesn't seem impressed by our signings. http://www.skysports.com/football/n...sfer-window-grades-premier-league-clubs-rated No reason given - probably thinks they weren't very good at previous clubs so will be rubbish for us. Cleverly certainly performed well so far and Zárate a replacement for Pereyra. Of course he has left out Niang who will probably add a lot to our team!
Here's the current state of play. Looks like there's only one decision to make - Arlauskis in the squad as back-up keeper for a few weeks or Djedje. If we don't put Arlauskis in, I wonder whether we'd stick Gilmartin or a youth team player on the bench. Does anyone know what happened to the young Israeli keeper (Ohayon?) we signed in the summer? He doesn't seem to be featuring much for the u23s recently.
It's a real shame Krull did not sign, as we would could have left Gilmartin out of the squad, but now I think we will have to include him along with Pants and pray Gomez stays fit until Pants has recovered. I suppose Pants injury will mean Gilmartin will be named on the bench for now, or are any of our youth GK's better than him?
I find it strange that the club did not try to sign a couple of HG players to make up the full quota for the squad. Maybe Walter feels that 23 is sufficient, but we have already experienced a panic this season with an injury crisis and the safety net of a full squad would have provided a bit of insurance. There was talk of that winger from Millwall. Maybe we have a couple of younger players coming through that can step up like Mason. In relation to the goalkeeping situation, is there not an emergency loan scenario that kicks in, if we have some injuries in that area?
Agreed with this. It woudl be a shame of Djedje missed out because of a knock to Pantillimon. Also I think you can add Mason to the squad as well.
Yes but it would need all the senior keepers to be unavailable as I understand it. And I guess they want to get some value when it comes to HG players as Duxbury has said all along. January isn't a great time for that although Cleverley proves it can be done.
OK above is our full available playing staff, less those out on loan. So who will be in our 25 man squad? All the over 21 HG players will almost certainly be included as we only have 6 currently available at the club and they are: - Gilmartin, Mariappa, Cathcart, Watson, Deeney & Cleverley. So we must select 17 more from our foriegn contingent of 18, so the obvious one to leave out is Alausjskis, and we will just have to hope Gomes stays fit while Pantilimon is out injured. Though I would imagine we might be able to get an emergency loan as I think they are allowed in a GK crises! We might get a sypathetic ear if Gomes was injured as we did try to bring in Krull, but lost out on him through no fault of our own.
Classic post from you TVOR. Incorrect spelling of players' name? Check! Repeating the same point as a post five posts above in the same thread? Check! Not understanding the rules of the competition? Check! Never change, TVOR, never change.
Pray oh mighty one, what rules do I not understand please enlighten me? Also if you care to note, I was not repeating your post, I was updating mine from much earlier in the thread. And finally missing an 'e' in Cleverley and an 'a' in Janmaat is hardly a great crime, and if you are also claiming moral high ground on Djedje, I know I left out 'Dja', but that was quite deliberate as others also referer to him with that shortened version of his name, including yourself I see.
If Gomes is injured, that doesn't constitute a goalkeeper crisis for the purposes of an emergency loan. All goalkeepers have to be injured/unavailable - we can't just loan one in as our third choices are a bit rubbish. You also spelled Arlauskis and Krul wrong.
When their inevitable drop in form after being coached my Mazzari comes in to effect. I give it 6 months.
Thank you for the rule explanation, but I was only posing the question, not stating a fact. Hence my starting the sentence with "I imagine we might...." etc. As for my spelling of Arlauskis, this was obviously a typo, as I do spell his name correctly earlier in the same post. However, I will hold my hands up to adding an extra "L" to the end of Krul's name. How remiss of me :
FYI, I know that Krul is classed as HG , but what would have been the point of us keeping Gilmartin had we signed Krul?
Squad confirmed. Only real news is Pereyra out for the rest of the season. Djedje's been a little unlucky. He's not been included because of the injury to Pants, so they had to included Arlauskis.
I'm surprised that Alauskis is in. Maybe Pantilimon is going to be out longer than originally expected, otherwise I would have thought one of our youngsters could have been used as our No3 GK for a few weeks, rather than leaving out Djedje.
