Another problem I can see is that not all the smaller/niche credit card providers actually support Apple Pay and/or Google Pay. Mine seems to support one but not the other.
My personal view is that this move is too much all at one go, especially with no real warning to people who may feel uncomfortable about using a mobile phone to carry out such transactions. Let alone those who don't have a phone with the requisite level of functionality on it, because all they really use it for is to contact people urgently & don't view it as an essential appendage to their hands and brains.
I can see chaos at the turnstiles as people who have paid their money to the club can't get through them. Maybe there'll be a surge in targeting people for their phones as they wave them around more than is advisable as they are just not used to employing them for this sort of thing.

Pretty sure you will be able to just have your season card loaded on it without having to have any of your bank cards on there.

It certainly would have been preferable if the club had put somewhere in its blurb: “If you don’t have a smartphone, this is what you do...”.

“…go to Carphone Warehouse” would probably be their answer.

Can you complete the activation of the apps without registering a card?

Yep, wouldn't have hurt to put a Q &A section on the website

Yep, I think it's going to be a bit of a nightmare. I don't see the issue with people being able to keep their cards if they want to. I think from hearing conversations at the club I work at the government are going to be really hot on track and trace so the clubs will need details of everyone at the ground. I presume this is an attempt to stop people ticket sharing.

I wonder whether a potential future feature (for the club) will be to detect a user's location just before kick-off to determine whether their seat can be re-sold when the person hasn't entered the stadium yet. If the app is saying someone is in, say, Milton Keynes 15 mins before kick-off, it is a fair assumption they ain't coming.

Who would they be selling it to “15 mins before kick-off”?

I always wondered why touts made a living selling tickets on the day. Who just turns up hoping to get a ticket?

An official system where you register your interest if a ticket is available. You sit in Wetherspoons and then 15 minutes before kick off the app announces a ticket has been loaded to your phone and the money deducted from your electronic wallet. I am sure it would work for some.

Only with consent from the user. There wil be an option to not allow the app to track you.

I’m a pensioner and I can’t remember how long I’ve been a season ticket holder. I do not have a smartphone. I have no need of a smartphone. I do not wish to spend hundreds of pounds buying a smartphone. I have a perfectly adequate non-smartphone which tells me the time. I text infrequently so I would not be a heavy user of an expensive new phone.

Now I am expected to fork out hundreds of pounds to purchase a smartphone to allow me to enter a football stadium once a fortnight. This is to replace a small plastic card produced at a minimal cost which functions perfectly. This seems to be a ludicrous idea invented by people who have lost all sense of the value of money.

I am sure cost is not an issue to the management and players earning tens of thousands a week and I’m sure some of them have boxes of smartphones lying around their mansions including the goalkeeper who is so obsessed with them that he takes his onto the pitch with him.

I have read the pdfs and seen the uninformative video but I am still unsure how this works. Next week we are being rushed into buying our season ticket online via credit card/debit card as usual. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Then later in the summer we must download an app onto a smartphone which is either the Hive Live one or a Fan Score account whatever that is. On the screen it says I have to “add” to an Apple Wallet or a Google Pay Account. From what I understand these are payment devices run by these US trillion-dollar tax avoiding corporations. Can someone explain why these payment devices have to be registered/installed if I have already paid for my season ticket?
I don’t understand. What do I have to “add” to an Apple Wallet?

Do I have to “download” a ticket to my device before every match as I walk along Vicarage Road?
    Will it connect?

What happens if I misplace/lose my phone, or it just stops working? Can the ticket be loaded onto a replacement phone? The average smartphone lasts 2 to 3 years (designed to fail) so it would not be unreasonable to expect several thousand of the season ticket holders to have to replace their phones during this coming season. What will be the process?

After a bit of research, I found that not all smartphones have the required NFC chip. Is this correct and does the club have a recommendation of which smartphone an ordinary, limited budget person (not millionaire footballer) should be purchasing for this plastic card replacement device?

Will the club be replacing its bouncers at the entry gates with IT support guys to sort out issues?
My niece spent two hours with two experts at the Apple Store in town trying to get her phone to do stuff after it suddenly stopped doing stuff. I guess people will have to turn up early for the first match.

When It comes to Carabao Cup games, you know when our reserves play a league two side, will tickets be bought in the normal way through the web site or is that what the Google Pay thing is for?
I’ve also just been told I shouldn’t install Google Pay on my phone due “control and security” issues.
This is news. Anyone got any thoughts on this? This all seems to be a bit much and overwhelming.

I bet you will be able to have some sort of card when it comes to it .

They won’t want to just rely on people having a nice up to date phone surely ?

Considering you volunteer you are of a certain age whereby you have come to the conclusion you don’t need a smart phone, you should be congratulated on being able to write an essay so elegantly on what probably so many people of your young age are thinking!

I hope you are able to get to all the games you wish, without any of the problems you describe!

Do stupid phones also work for the ST renewals?

  18. Just renewed. Slightly annoying that when you have gone through the process and get to reviewing your order, the 'amount to pay' does not reflect the deduction of your account balance. After going back half a dozen times, I looked more carefully at the review order page and it explains that your account balance will be deducted in the small(er) print.

If you don't have a smartphone, how could you consider installing Google Pay on your phone?

Think you might have overextended yourself a bit there m8.

It was surprisingly easy. I kept in mind this paragraph from the initial email "The full Season Ticket price will show throughout the purchasing process and your credit will be applied at the final point of purchase". With that in mind and just following the process it was a 60 second job.

All done - looking forward to being back in my seat.

Just did mine by DD too. The email receipt says:

    "Direct Debit Setup
Your direct debit details have been sent, payment will be processed on the due date."

It should also have the direct debit guarantee at the bottom?

I've renewed. Nice & easy with the £20 save-my-seat refund applied.

Can't find the season ticket on the app yet so I can link it to Google Pay, but presumably that option doesn't appear until closer to the start of the season?

(Edit: I've just seen some club info that seems to confirm this)

Done mine, only £300 for me and the kids as had a big chunk of credit from the first covid season.

Having worked on the project to use contactless bank cards on TfL services and later on phones with payment apps, the NFC will be able to read cards too. I suspect they will issue cards to those that need them. They are probably keeping that quiet for now so less people ask for them.

Just done mine, pretty easy, but as others have said:-
Why we have to confirm an amount which is greater than the amount we will be billed is just plain daft! not good and shows a lack of customer service in my view!

Renewed mine quite easily, even though I had to phone the ticket office to get them to change mine from 'Adult' to 'Over 65' as I will turn 65 in July. Got through pretty quickly to be fair.
