You're not allowed within 75 miles of Vicarage Rd on matchday.

All great for 95% of fans but my parents have been going for 50 years. A mobile to them is something that swirls above a cot.

Near Field Communication. It means once you’re in the stadium you can shout your disgust at the players, only if you can see the pitch.

It's a while back now, but I used to have one when I lived in Cornwall and it entitled me to, I think it was, 15 home games of my choice a season and I had my own exclusive seat number. There was also a scheme that you could inform the club if you were not going to a game which gave the club the option to sell your seat to someone else.

However, I think the 75 mile ticket is no longer available to new applicants, though I think if someone has had one for years they can still continue to purchase one, but unfortunately I gave mine up when I moved.

You could pay for KFC but if you're cheap you'd go to that dodgy XFC place on the way to the gruond but if you're REALLY cheap now you can get NFC. Good luck!

The video says you can have multiple tickets on one phone, so guess you'd have to have their tickets on your phone

But then how do you get through the turnstile? Surely just going to lead to anyone with multiple tickets on one phone having to queue at a side gate so someone can scan them as a batch.

Somebody told me there was a suggestion/rumour on Facebook (yes I know..) that people might still be able to buy a card for a set price.

Not sure if that was for every game on by a game by game process.

I don't know what percentage of the adult UK population generally, and WFC fanbase specifically, don't have smartphones, but I wouldn't mind betting it's significantly more than just 5%. And of those that do, there's probably also a percentage with older phones that don't support NFC. I can't believe the club are not aware of this. They must surely have a plan for those who are unable to use the new tech.

I just watched the video and see it tells me I have to make Google Pay my default. I own a Samsung phone and watch and so use Samsung Pay. I don’t even have the Google app and certainly don’t want it to be my default.

I like that the club are innovating but this seems to not be brilliantly thought through.

Similar, but I use Apple Pay. Annoying if you must use google pay

You can use Apple Pay too. They’re the two choices.

Whenever I get within half a mile of Vicarage Road I get zero signal as if I am in a bunker! Do you need a signal or is this ticket thing always there?! #yestechnoidiot

I think the latter once you’ve got it on your device.

The video reminds people to charge their phones, so presumably you’re screwed.

I assume the answer to all of the above is you go to the ticket office, and they print you off a paper ticket. But the queue will be so long (and boring without your phone) that you’ll never forget to charge it again.

Agreed, I am sure there are a high % of season ticket holders that do not have a smart phone or do not use apple pay or google pay.

I hope they have a lot of staff ready to take the phone calls to explain how to make this work.

I was talking to a friend and he plans to put three tickets on his phone. So he will need to stand by the turnstile while his father and son go in, then select his ticket to enter. I can see that is ok in terms of the sale, but it will create a bit of a scrum at the turnstile, if many others do that. For one they will all need to travel together and wait after the security search at the turnstile until he turns up to use his phone to let them in.

While I am sure the adoption of the technology is partly a cost saver, (and at £438 you can’t say the club has not been fair on pricing for the secure your seat lot), I wonder what advantages there are to using this technology. It won’t stop no shows if one phone holds multiple tickets, nor will it guarantee to link a device to an individual and ticket.

Will all away tickets to premier league matches use it too?

I don't how big these advantages are but I guess if they introduce it for all home tickets (not just season tickets), it wipes out a load of postage and printing costs for the club. It'll also scupper touts for the high profile games.
