Wayne Andrews now having a pop at AF for writing a piece about his tweets and saying he didn’t say what people are saying he did - despite the evidence being there for all to see.
Andrews was given his chance one way or another. Maybe he'll have made his break-through at the start of this season instead without the injuries, but one way or another it's happened and you can't disprove the continued minutes and chances he's had this season - they're a fact. As for Blake, maybe we wouldn't have signed a player like Ince if we'd had Blake as another forward option? Maybe he'd have gotten minutes while we had a knackered Rajovic playing as our only CF every week and we were having to stick Ince in to central midfield? Maybe he wouldn't have gotten minutes because he wasn't good enough for this level? Maybe he'll have gone on loan to play regular minutes in League One or League Two, similar to Forde and (pre-injury) Hurtado? Regardless you're clutching at straws considering what has actually occurred. To continue the point about whether we give kids a chance or not, while he's not an academy player exactly Asprilla has also shown plenty of progress here this season, and only 1 player in the league younger than him has scored more goals.
Blake must have known we'd have a weaker squad this season, he must have known there would have perhaps been an opportunity for a loan to L1/L2, surely if he felt he had a chance of cracking the first team in the next season or two he'd have stayed. Besides, Asprilla was a Colombia international even before he came here, of course he's found it easier to crack the first team (but even so, he's not been an automatic starter in the past 2 seasons)
WA is understandably protective however it appears that can spill over into OTT reactions - at one away game this season he turned on and grabbed a fellow supporter sitting nearby for criticising his son - not “abusing” him and this was in the section housing players families where you would have thought the demeanour of all would be more reserved.
Hopefully Wayne rowing back on his comments is a suggestion that one way or another any behind the scenes issue or animosity has been resolved.
Asprilla was given his first cap in a cameo as a token gesture to facilitate him getting a work permit I think, and came in a friendly where they mostly used South America based development players. He has not been given any caps since he left Colombia, despite him now being a better player, which just underlines that. Regardless it shows if the young player has the talent for it they'll get the chance here and develop. The rest of your comment just seems like waffle to be honest. Maybe Blake left because he didn't even think he was good enough to make it here? Whatever the reason, his choosing to leave when he did does not prove anything about this manufactured supposed inability to develop young players. The simple facts are that this season Andrews has played plenty more minutes for us than Blake has for the side second bottom of the Dutch second tier - and so it's just absurd to try and use him as an example of us failing to develop young players.
I’d imagine it’s more a case of his son having a pop at his dad for saying something we all think has been going on. His dad doesn’t seem like the sharpest tool in the box I must say.
Don't be daft, Burnsy - you clearly took the line "He won't mentally bully my boy he's trying his best but he won't" out of context and misconstrued it's true meaning . Easy mistake to make.
This is what Wayne later claimed the 'misconstruing' was: Ludicrously enough, here is Uncle Ron seemingly reasonably explaining and having accepted by Wayne Andrews why him going after Andrew French for his reporting was unfair and a deflection tactic:
Shame he used the word 'he' three times in his short tweet. Of course he didn't mean VI but people in general, lol. And of course the club's number one cheerleaders lapped up the rowing back.
I haven’t noticed a lot of difference. He’s having a good breakthrough season for a young lad thrown into first team football but the weaknesses we’re seeing have been there all along.
Named in the England U20 squad to play Poland and the Czechs, seems like his recent malaise hasn't impacted on his international prospects
As I pointed out in the previous page, only 5 players in the Championship his age or younger have played more minutes than him this season - and one of those is Dutch and another Welsh. So it's no surprise at all he's still going to be included in such a squad.
Anyone know if he’s playing today for England u20’s against Poland? Game kicks off in 5mins and I can’t find a team sheet anywhere.
Injured so back with us . https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24202656.watford-boss-hopeful-andrews-lewis-will-fit-leeds/
Injured with a dead leg!? Pansy! Just run it off. Nothing that the bucket and sponge wouldn’t fix back in the day.
Well he has been absolutely dreadful in his games since returning! Him withdrawing from the squad is probably a good thing and will hopefully give him a chance to recalibrate.
Moving to Turkey as part of the England under 20 squad named this morning. He'll also pop over to Romania for the games next month.
He has already played 4 times for England U20s. Thankfully he only got his England call-ups after he was old enough to have a contract with us, so he can only be bought by bigger clubs, as opposed to poached for nothing.
I actually think Andrews was a bit better towards the end of last season follow TC coming in but he's still a bit suspect defensively for me.
I have concerns about him defensively also, but he is very young and hopefully getting the necessary guidance and coaching to improve. I think he is a good footballer and the fact that he came through the ranks and has a family history with the club, means that we all have an extra interest in him being as successful as he can be.
He's made some great tackles and cleared off the line against Plymouth to stop a certain goal. Did a silly backpass but I have no worries about Ryan. The whole system wouldn't work without him.
Within our existing squad possibly but he's definitely not made himself irreplaceable. If Ebosele signs permanently and puts in a good show, Ryan's going to have to up his game.
