No, because Flamini DOESN'T PLAY FOR THEM ANYMORE.

Seems we might be going for Matias Fernandez now, possibly signalling the end of the Pereyra pursuit.

Good point. I just don't see how we are going to finish above arsenal this coming season. Complete lack of ambition being shown.

Really, that bad? I'd have assumed he was average going by his supposed name...

Anyway, going by your logic I'll assume that Isaac Success is inoffensively average.

I love Mati Fernandez - I followed him when he was at Colo Colo in Chile - would be a fantastic signing!

Mati Fernandez or "Matigol" as I used to refer to him was an absolute monster on FM08. Playing in the AMC position, any time he picked the ball up around the box, it was almost certain to result in a goal. Similarly, a free-kick around the box was essentially as good as a penalty kick when Matigol stepped up. For these reasons, I'm in.

Yeh I remember him being hugely reliable last summer ...

I really hope it's true despite Di Marzio's penchant for posting clickbait s**t.

Pereyra had a difficult time last season but the season before he was full of flair and we are badly in need of flair players with passing range who can start to change our problems transitioning defence into attack under Flores. Last season our playmaker was supposed to be Jurado; he hadn't just had one difficult season - his career had been on a downward spiral for about five seasons. It's got to be a big step up in terms of a creative midfielder!

He was spot on regarding Iturbe last Summer. He's probably the most reliable Italian source.

...and also posted pretty much whatever came into his head regarding us and transfer rumour and claimed it was inside information!

    Pereyra or Vasquez?

Both would be nice, but unlikely considering we ve signed Success, Sinclair and possible return of Penaranda.

Di Marzio is one of the most respected football journalists in Europe?

People always seem to confuse him with the Giulianelli chap who really is a con.

For what it's worth, even Di Marzio was wide of the mark of Iturbe. He was one of those saying it was a done deal. The only outlet that was spot on was WD Sport.

Maybe he's very reliable when it comes to whatever is being discussed in Italy. As soon as it's elsewhere, his connections might not be that good to make himself properly reliable.

Vasquez if I had to pick but only just. The reason being I think he just has a little bit more quality on the ball and his foot work could be what we need to unlock a rigid defence in the last 10/15mins of a game. However like you, I want both.

  23. I suspect Iturbe was a done deal as far as everyone was concerned until Quique blocked it at the last minute

Actually I would go for Pereyra if I had to choose. Mostly because that ball playing midfielder with a touch of flair it what we sorely lack.

People seem to forget he was actually pretty important to a successful Juve outfit before injuries set him back a fair bit. He does have pedigree.

  26. Arakel

    Yep.

In fairness, after seeing Iturbe's offerings at Muff you'd have to say Quique probably got that one spot on.

Judging solely from YouTube videos and no better knowledge than that , it seems Pereyra has the better pedigree but Vaszquez looks to be more dangerous and a goal threat. I m told Pereyra has a great defensive work rate .

What a debate to be having though.

Exactly. Yet again WDSports had the scoop, they obviously realised early on that Iturbe wasn't happening and decided that they would downplay it to let us fans down gently. That's why they repeatedly insisted that no contact had been made, even when Iturbe had been photographed in the Starbucks down the road from the club en route to meet club officials. Some cynics suggested that WDSports just got lucky that the transfer fell through and then gloated as though they were right all along but I definitely don't think that happened.

I really do hope this comes good.
Post FA Cup Semi I said what we needed for next season was 'a Payet'. Think this lad has the ability to have a similar influence given a run without injury.

    Why's that ?

Are they lifelong Luton fans ?

  33. Strictly speaking, and quite prporly in terms of news etiquet, they made no claim regarding the transfer either way. What they did do, though at the time many fans construed it as stating an opinion, was report that their source within the club was saying that all was not as was being reported, and, if I remember correctly, this was a day or two before Iturbe arrived in the country to meet Quique.

I thought it was excellent handling of the story at the time, but, for some reason, they first of all got slated for being know nothing spoil sports who's reputation would be in tatters when the deal goes through; and then, when it didn't, were slated for being smug, told-you-so gits! Not a proud moment for some of the more led-by-the-nose posters on this forum.

Sorry Gav. I have used quite a few commas here. I hope you don't mind.

No, they said there had been no formal talks. When there had.

I agree that their handling of the story was excellent, I wouldn't expect anything else! You don't quite remember correctly though - they said that Watford weren't allowed to hold talks before the 1st January and that we wouldn't make a move until after the festive fixtures. Iturbe rocked up for talks the very next day and had signed for Bournemouth all before Christmas. Obviously WDSport knew what was going on, I suspect they pretended not to for the sake of the Watford fans who were getting excited about the possible signing. As for commas, use as many as you like - and spell etiquette however you like too, this isn't an English exam!
