  3. This is the article I was referring to: http://www.wdsport.co.uk/2015/12/watford-target-juan-manuel-iturbe-says-goodbye-to-roma-fans/

It came out as a reaction to other parties claiming it was a done deal.

What you said is correct in the main, but this was the article that upset the fans after the positive reports of a new record signing elsewhere, as it didn't just say the deal wouldn't happen until January, but that it may not happen at all.

Sorry and delighted in equal measure to be an insufferable smart Rs know it all.

I heard the talks were in casual attire and full of colloquial terminology rather than being formal

Napoli in talks with Pereyra according to Di Marzio.

Does that mean they're not gonna get Zielinski? In that case, I'd happily take Piotr

Italian press saying Pereyra is an alternative to Zielinski who doesn't seem keen on a move to Napoli and still has his heart set on Liverpool.

He wants to stay in Italy and go to Napoli it sounds like. Shame

Napoli don't get Zielinski = they get Pereyra = we get Zuniga

I'd prefer Pereyra over Zuniga tbh.

    Just a bit!!

I'm not sold on Zuniga at all. I really can't help feeling that while he would be a clear upgrade on Paredes, he is clearly past his best and didn't show any huge signs of regaining form on loan at Bologne last season.

Blimey, if you think he would be a "clear upgrade on Paredes" and you're not still not keen on signing him, your opinion of JCP must be seriously low.

Zielinski is set to sign for Napoli so Pereyra could be back on the cards if we convince him.

Liverpool fans upset all over Twitter that we have ruined their deal to sign Zielinski from Udinese because we want Zuniga from Napoli and Pereyra from Juve. Even the classic quote of "Italian mafia" has resurfaced

If it upsets Liverpool fans, then it's a good thing. They live on past glory and a sense of entitlement.

Hmm wonder if Napoli went after Pereyra to force the Pozzo's hand in the Zielinski deal or a genuine option, I suspect a bit of both. Knowing little about either player I cannot really compare the two too much.
I get the impression it is quite common in Italian football for deals to be interlinked and perhaps Liverpool could have been a bit more savvy with the Sinclair deal to land Zielinski.
It seems the Pozzos have a good relationship with Napoli in any case and it sounds like between them they've managed to convince the player towards Napoli rather than Liverpool.

If the relationship is that good let them ask Napoli how much they want for Hamsik

I'll still eat my hat if he comes to us rather than Wet Spam or anywhere else.

The only reason I could see him choosing us over Spam is guaranteed football. At Spam he d be competing with Payet and Lanzini ( although wouldnt be surprised if Payet switched to a big club)

Absolutely, he would be coming to us with the likelyhood of another move in England in 2 seasons time.

Pozzo didn't block his move to Juventus, in fact they went out of their way to facilitate it.
This will stand in good stead for our chances of getting him.

As said above, I definitely think that Napoli moved for him to help Pozzo persuade Zelinski that he should sign for them.

Not sure they have a track record of getting in players for us in a highly competitive situation vs other bigger clubs. Hope you're right and I'm wrong ! Lots of £4m-£5m signings where we are the biggest club going for the player.

  24. wfcmoog

Does anyone remember when the idea of a £4-5m signing with us being the biggest club going for the player would've seemed purely mental?

Back when I were a lad, in a time when the (Bosnian) war had just ended, goalkeepers could pick up backpasses and we used to play Luton in a cup involving Italian teams, there was no time for signings. No siree!

How many times has it had to be stated: we are IN TRANSITION. It takes that first statement signing before others can be achieved.

It took Stoke how many seasons of top flight football (long enough for them to become synonymous with defensive, brutish football anyway!)

  28. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

Yes in transition. That's why I believe we will struggle to land the £10m plus targets we are bidding for, Pozzos or not. Clubs may accept our offer as they don't care where the cash comes from but getting the players to sign on the dotted line is a different matter. I hope we keep making the offers and that you're right, after one signs they will snowball. However I expect many will drag to the end of the summer before the realisation finally hits that we are their best option as the bigger established clubs aren't biting.

I think also that Deeney must have been pretty convinced that he will have more creativity around him next season and that he won't play 70% of games in a team who have problems transitioning from defence to attack, which, if we are honest, must have been quite frustrating at times.

The thing is, if you can survive for about 3 or 4 years, it seems that making bigger signings becomes a lot easier. Just look at the people Stoke have signed and the kind of bids Crystal Palace are starting to make.

  30. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

Yes they have to be our role models. I hope we are at least as successful and get the players we need this summer to comfortably survive. Won't be easy though.

Agree with you mate. It's all gone quiet and all of a sudden the Vasquez rumours are picking up. Like you, I'm beginning to think this is deal is not happening.

I wonder who the target is for the playmaker role.

I seemed to recall Deeney mentioning the ambition of Gino was a reason for re signing.

The fact that Jurado was described as a "playmaker" gives me cause to question that WD article.
