Quiz: Who Is This Rock Legend?

I've just been watching a music documentary and this still caught my attention. The little girl is wearing a Watford FC Rosette (remember them). The focus of the documentary was the chap on the right. After doing some Googling, I discovered that he sometimes substitutes 'Watford team' for some lyrics in a song he performs live. He is originally from the Three Counties area. Who is the Rock Legend?.

SLB used to hang around The Victory in Pinner with his brother Johnny (?) who oddly enough looked like John Taylor from Duran Duran.

Born in Stanmore, grew up in Bromley & various places in south London & southern home counties.

I used to see SLB around Ruislip & Pinner quite a lot in the late 80s & early 90s. I think he used to live round there, I don't know if he still does.

 

Nobody is close. So it's time for clues.

Clue 1: His band were based in West Yorkshire.

 

In that case, Justin Sullivan? I think he's from the area, even though New Model Army were Yorkshire-based

 

Correct. Yes, his Dad was a Quaker and he was brought up in Jordans, Bucks.

 

Regarding the song with altered lyrics:

This has probably nothing to do with the song, but I just love to talk about literature.

The English national football team. In some live versions Justin sings "Watford team" instead; Watford is a district in the county of Herfordshire, on the northwest periphery of London, with a football club playing in the English Premier Division.

It does make me wonder if all this fame and fortune is all it's cracked up to be. He hasn't changed a bit

 

That's Charlie Bucket from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. Fun fact, after the movie, he turned his back on movie stardom and became a vet.

We don't need any more "pop" stars. We do need more animal welfare and care.

 

He turned down a 3 movie deal. It wasn't for him. He refused any sort of fame or publicity aside from regularly talking to school kids about the movie. I'm using past tense, but I believe and hope, he's still very much alive.

I politely disagree. Banned from touring the US during the 80s for having no artistic merit, and then banned again, post-9/11/, because the band had army in its name and therefore must be a terrorist group. You just have to love those crazy Yanks.
