No one's saying xG is the be-all and end-all. The original point was to counter the suggestion that xG is purely subjective and that it's less of an indicator than one person's 'eye test'. It's simply not. There's a method to it and it provides measurable data. Now, you can disagree with the method, but that's a different argument.
True but 1 goal in the cup and one goal in the league back in August only with over 1000 mins played.
We'll have none of this balanced assessment around here! This is a forum for very strongly held opinions. Mine is that you're right and no amount of factual evidence is going to convince me otherwise.
Armstrong reminded me of the Kienan Davis apologists last season, those who claimed the lack of goals was ok because his hold up play and work rate was so high. For Davis that clearly wasn't the case as he had the touch of a trampoline, no ability to move after 60 minutes and was generally crap. Armstrong won't score many goals but is the perfect foil for a small and quick striker. He ran our backline ragged today but there was nobody else near him to profit from the space.
We were lucky today to get all 3 points but then again we had several first choice players out with either injury, illness or suspension whereas arguably QPR put out their strongest team, including Chair and Willock who, according to a QPR supporting work colleague of mine were expected to be out injured today Anyway, I've got bragging rights at work tomorrow
To qualify the term “crap” I’m equating that to a squad capable of finishing in 6th place or above. If we were in League One then I would consider our squad very good indeed. So it’s all relative to aspirations. Who from our team would sit comfortably in a top 6 team? I don’t think many fulfil that criteria. It’s easier to list those I don’t consider crap. Andrews, Aprilla, got a soft spot for Sema, and the form of Kayembe, Livermore and Kone has nudged themselves up the ladder in my opinion. But for the rest, I don’t really see too much that convinces me they are little more than lower league players.
Particularly the one where he basically mis controlled the ball one on one allowing Hamer to come out. If our strikers did that they would be slated. I remember he actually caused a few problems after coming on in the first game but as you point out hardly scores and gets cramp easily. Like a young mini Okaka?
Kienhan Davies, 1 appearance for our italian brothers this season! On a side note, Okoye is now Udinese's number 1 and has been doing alright by all accounts. Do you think we can swap him for bachmann?
Been injured I think. The now departed Butterfly man actually got asked about Okoya and said he was staying as they still had high hopes for him at the summer fans forum but within weeks was moved on. I guess Gino stepped in and quickly had other ideas.
Firstly, a certain poster tries so very, very hard to: Do his/her level-best to derail every single post-match discussion with some form of joyless, negative take on pretty much everything Secondly, may I refer our dear readers to: #Post 251 Keep the Faith SCG
Prior to Lewis and Sema getting injured, Morris hadn't played a single minute since 20th September vs West Brom. He's not even been included in the squad in recent months. He was completely out of Val's favour. From October up to him getting injured, Lewis was subbed off 5 times, each of which resulted in Sema either switching to, or coming on at, left back or LWB.
Watford fans have always preferred a "trier" to a "doer" Never forget, this is the brain-dead fanbase that slated Deulofeu.
It will always be a mix in every fan base. The bit I have always noticed over the years is that some fans will always prefer players that are easier on the eye over those that are maybe more scruffy but more effective. Give me substance over style i.e. Sema over Martins, yet a large number of fans get on King Kens back at any opportunity.
e should of used oscar wikdes last words m8 Spoiler "My wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. One or the other of us must go."
Brilliant away day. Hungover walk around a very quiet leicester square and Trafalgar Square trying to feel more human ( my local pub haf their last night yesterday drank it dry). Then off to a pub in central london thats open that early, then 3 points when playing bad but winning first time ive seen us win away for 6 and half years. Then drinking in london getting robbed for beer prices like we robbed those west london losers away days priceless
This is all true.....but is not a balanced piece. You are quite entitled to write in this way and you will never get a negative comment from me if you do.........but you shouldn't give out little digs (as you always do) to those who are not mindlessly appreciative if Ismael produces aromatic farts. It's always extremely safe to highlight the positives. You will always be liked on this forum if you do this....which again is fine if that's your thing.......but in any balanced piece the negatives (if there are any) need to be expressed too. You cannot seem to resist the usual snide comments. See post #332. You can use the 'ignore' feature but somehow you cannot bring yourself to do it. You've forgotten to mention your flounce joke too.....which is always so hilarious. You even started an entire thread on it I seem to remember. So, maybe it's you with the problem of having me live rent free in your head? So stop this obsession, place me on ignore as it seems you can’t stand the way I write, and your sanitised world will be a far better place without nasty HB1 spoiling things for you.
I think most people know we were lucky to win and didn't play well etc but maybe don't write long winded posts about the game or stuff that isn't to do with it? Everyone is different of course and that is what makes forums work.
So, just to be clear, exactly where do we deserve to be in the table right now based on our performances ?
Why not? Why can’t people write what they like? This is a forum to express opinions, to create debate and sometimes joke around. I don’t attack anyone and don’t target people or abuses them. I don’t get why so many want to police the forum and want it to be some kind of sanitised sugar-coated sanctuary. I think that’s a vile concept. I post opinion, and will answer any honest response to my observations. Usually some can’t stand their own views from being challenged and will ridicule, spin or make a nonsense of an alternative view to their own. Then the abuse starts. It’s always been this way, but I will always stick to my beliefs and will not alter my style of writing. If the mods don’t like it, I can be banished, but I don’t think I’ve ever fallen foul of anything in all the years I’ve written here. (Unlike a few regulars on here)
With this context, saying our squad is "crap" makes more sense now from your perspective. I'd reserve a crap squad term for a mostly relegation / midtable squad roster though myself but I can see with this clarification more where you've been coming from. A top 6 squad would feature Hoedt, Andrews, Livermore (Didn't see that coming but he's generally been immense), Koné (Form dependent), Kayembé (Form dependent), Asprilla and Sema. Louza has the ability but not invested. Average / Inconsistent has Hamer, Porteous, Sierralta, Pollock, Lewis, Ngakia (When... or, more accurately, if fit), Dele-Bashiru, Chakvetadze, Martins, Bayo, Rajovic, Healey. Lower / Relegation quality contains Bachmann, Morris, Hurtado and Ince. So to me, we have a midtable Championship squad with enough Play-Off level players when on form to make it a unlikely possibility with a few lower quality players of which one was dropped, one rarely features and the other is relied on too much. One is also far too raw to be counted on seriously.
