I saw the second half after our thrashing at the hands of Cumberland.

I agree with Gary N about Fernandes and would go further.

I've rarely seen him play well in big matches and his habit of throwing his hands up and berating teammates is indicative of the malaise in top level football.

Arsenal winning the title would go against everything the Premier League stands for. Something had to be done. Football is becoming like F1. I fully expect that if Citeh are 3 points behind Arsenal going into the last game, a new rule will be introduced meaning Arsenal have to start that last game with 8 players or can only score from outside the area, just to make it go down to the last 5 mins.

Henry Winter in The Times today suggests we try a new MLS rule. If a player is still on the ground after 15 seconds he's taken off for treatment and stays off for at least 3 minutes.

 

Wasn’t something like this tried a couple of World Cups ago? The ‘injured’ player was compulsorily taken off on a stretcher for treatment so the game could continue. It was brought in here half-heartedly the following season and then quietly forgotten as usual.

 

Lineker might get the sack from the BBC after his recent comments on migrants.

Can't stand him. Comparing our border policy (which may be great or rubbish) with Nazi Germany is bizarre and stupid. Why would anyone care what he thinks on anything other than (and probably for many, including) football ?

I’m generally in favour, but what happens if the attacking teams start to go in hard on tackles, perhaps accept a yellow and then try to take advantage of playing against 10/ 9 men for 3 minutes?

I think there needs to be some discretion: e.g. the rule doesn’t apply after yellow/ red cards. For those, any time wasted gets added on at the end.

He simply said “in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s” Which I think is correct as the Government are basically trying to make people hate a certain group of people, which is exactly what happened in Germany in the 30s.

But as is sadly always the case nowadays, his quote was adjusted by the right wing press to enrage the people the government are trying whip up into a frenzy even further, even though they’ve never even read the proper quote.

Anyway, this is one for the politics section.

 

Thanks. Unfortunately he’s not as bright as he likes to think he is. Had the policy been to remove non white British people from the UK rather than to stop immigration he would be correct. If he was simply relying on using the word “language” literally, ie the policy wasn’t similar but “the language” was, then he’d still be wrong as presumably those policies would have been in German .
Anyway as you say, one for the toxic hell-hole that is the politics section.

 

It is extremely annoying to me that the media are deliberately changing the meaning of his sentence, to state that he said it about the policy rather than the language used to justify the policy.

Not that I care if he gets sacked, as I'd much prefer a better football pundit.

 

Same, I don’t care for him at all but equally hate the way what he said had been totally changed in order to deflect from the thing it’s all about. Something he didn’t actually say has become a bigger story than the policy.
