Pre-season 23/24

It’s lovely to see us looking so focused and intense. Nice to see a clear plan and structure. I’m sure we will play more as a unit this coming season. It might not always be pretty but it could be effective within reason. For better or worse we do seem to be lacking a wow factor for the first time in a long time (no Pedro, likely no Sarr, obviously no Deulofeu or Pereyra type players) so it looks as if this season will be about effective functional team play rather than the type of player who gets you off your feet in excitement.

 

Those players gave us some great moments of skill in their time with us, but apart from JP, I feel they got me off my feet to swear at them for their lack of commitment and interest, more than their skills.

 

So, who is this mystery player training with us? Will he be involved tonight?

 

Some standout comments in that video for me are the following

Injury prevention programs - Let’s hope it’s better than the last 3 years.

Muscle imbalance - We’ve signed Success.

Looking at the hamstrings - Let’s hope they do more than look at them.

Players wear GPS units - Let’s hope Bachmann’s is turned off so we can lose him.

Jab jab jab - Certainly going to be fighting this season.

Big ambitions this year - aka avoid relegation.

Played under a few managers now in the past 6 months - Will be a few more over the next 6 months.

Players came back in good shape - Thats because they didn’t do anything last season.

I’m always excited - don’t worry Ismael we will take that out of you soon enough.

Final note, good to see Giaretta ruining everything all over again by standing there pretending he has a clue about football and what players we need.

 

It looks quite a lot like James Morris with a new haircut.

 

Another one where they are giving off a message that everything has been very poorly run in the past, whilst saying they've given us a well run few years at the same time.

 

It was an interesting if fairly expected watch, what was pleasing to see was Pollock and Sierralta both smashing in the tackles "win the ball don't just get a touch"

 

That's definitely James Morris.

 

Blimey, Kalu looks like he's aged even further over the summer. Looks in his 50s there.

I'll be honest, my interest flatlined some time ago and only the meeting with Pozzo meant I came back to have a look on here. I'll not be posting anything meaningful, if anything at all.

I'm now convinced this is Sam Tinubu who just left Stevenage amid supposed interest from Man City & Spurs. Left-footed and can play as a defensive midfielder or centre back.

allnigeriasoccer said he signed a 2 year deal with Man City in June. Hopefully that's inaccurate

Potentially, but I can't see him making the step up from a 10 min appearance in League 2, to first team regular in the Championship, so not sure how anyone would really benefit from that arrangement

It’ll be fine once our 10 new signings are integrated.

 

Bachmann and Sierralta the only players to have started the first game of the last season, complete refresh.

 

Considering none of them are involved it hopefully just means they're prioritising giving the previous season's squad a chance to prove themselves (given that they already know the new signings will be staying and thus playing them over others would be pointless for that).
