Never gonna happen. But given the forum has been threatened with legal action by them before, it's best we stand down from that point on these pages.
Confirm Burns has delivered some belters to me in the past but I don’t pass on as told in confidence. Hope you are doing well Burnsy!
Will we ever find out who the mystery striker we were supposedly after in the summer was though?!?! @Burnsy
Anyone thinking Gino could be hiding in Scotland right now? They both went to the same school and it looks like him, so there might be something in this. Clown 'stalking village streets and leaving residents terrified' dares police to catch them | UK News | Sky News
This is very true and I'm a bit worried that Luther's legacy could be tarnished. Not for me, btw, as I saw him play and he is ingrained as my favourite ever Watford player. Only something extreme could ever change that now. But supporters who didn't grow up watching the club in the 70's/80's only know him by reputation and don't have that strong affiliation as the older fans, which is understandable. He could really harm his image by standing by the owner at this time. Do I trust Luther? 100% I do, but that doesn't mean he's not being fooled and has believed what he has been told. I'm sure he's been smooched by Scott Duxbury. I'm quite confident that's where the relationship is, rather than with the owner. However, once you are employed by the club, you instantly lose your neutrality. There will always be a hint of doubt as you're not sure if the lean is biased towards the club. I know Luther is credible, honest and only wants what is best for the club. He loves the club and is a fan. Maybe he's playing the long game and feels he can have more influence from within, rather than sitting objectively from the outside. We have an 'in' with Luther and I hope he uses this position wisely. There was a Vlog last night and he was listening. He didn't speak as Uncle Ron was in rant mode, but the tone from virtually everyone on the call, even those who always make excuses for the owner, has completely changed. Virtually no one wants Gino Pozzo to remain, from what I heard last night. I didn't listen to it all, just around 20 minutes or so, but the tone was very clear. Maybe they've asked Luther to eavesdrop and report back? However, these events are always recorded and can be listened to anytime. Maybe Luther himself wants to gauge the feeling amongst the fanbase. Whatever the reason, he was visibly listening and hopefully it will be reported back to the club. I think the hierarchy, if they are serious about ploughing on regardless, have to go out of their way and show things have changed. They cannot hide any longer. They have to make it clear that Manga is the last big mistake, and lay out a credible plan on how we intend to progress from this point forward. All the lies, spin and deception has to stop. Tell us how it is without the sugar-coating. I believe this is the only way they can possibly get the fans back onside now. Say nothing, bury heads in the sand, and it's game over for them.
Vague retweets about it being easier to implement change from within and rumours of a paid role are all I've seen as justification. Sadly, I think they've tainted even Luther now.
Luther has turned a corner magically as he’s coincidentally got his official role and started (I assume) getting paid for his opinion. Hmmm.
Luther is an icon especially in the golden generation of Watford fans' who saw him rip up the pitch. Of all the people I would of thought to have been "bought" by Gino (if that is the case), I find that very sad. He lives and breathes Watford, always has done as far as I am aware. He should be standing with the supporters who can see the direction this ownership is taking us. I have full respect for him, and always will, but this is a worrying turn of events for a man who many hold in the highest regard.
I seem to recall a time when everyone was demanding, Gino sorted the finances out, that we got rid of players that didnt care and we had players that we could get behind. You asked that we give managers more time and have patience with them. You were also asking for Gino and senior management team to talk to us. Well we had a mass clearout of players that didn't seem to care and were costing us a lot of money. I understand that the debt has been reduced, particularly the external debts. We have a team that are playing better football (most of the time) although the run of consistant good results isn't there yet. We have not sacked the manager when previously that would have happened, instead we extended his contract and his influence. The experiment of Manga and his team didnt work and they have had the sense to say we dont need them. None of us can see a line of succesful Manga signings. Feedback from Billic in his Watford Observer article suggested that although they were good (previously highly succesful) people it made the recruitment process too crowded. Gino and his team are talking to fans on a more regular basis. It seems to me that Gino and his team have given us everything that most people asked for and still the fans are unhappy, the bile continues and the Gino haters sharpen their keyboard knives and demand changes. So for petes sake GIVE GINO A BREAK. Isn't this the time to get behind our club and team.
Apart from Sarr which bad eggs” who “didn’t care” actually left and have they been replaced adequately with improvements made to the team ? Sounds like Ismael wanted most of the new signings and Manga had very little say tbh and in reality his time here was a waste of time . We did play good football for about 3 -4 games but hasn’t been great recently with the manager often having to be negative about the team and players afterwards.
I can guarantee that Luther is Watford through and through but even this legend can only start from now. It's going to be a very long road before we see changes that we all want. At least we know he will not spin supporters any BS.
I didn’t realise having a fans forum was a must under EF rules. Guess they will say we have had one this season .. https://twitter.com/kieren_rees/status/1715082805015687308 Even Manga was there !
21/09/2019 I started this thread, I was 100% correct to do so and that remains the same today. Shame it’s taking many Watford supporters so long to catch up. POZZO OUT - he is a stain on this great football club.
I am quite surprised we haven't had a certain poster calling for fans' to "give Gino a break" during this wretched run of form. But I do agree, he needs to go and should of gone a year or so back. He won't go unless he's bought out and gets his investment paid back, and he won't jump ship and run unless we fell into League Two or worse. He can still make money off Watford being a Championship club, but if we got relegated to League One our value would plumet even further.
It’s funny how some posters talk about it being “time for Gino to go” as though it was as simple as sacking an employee, like an underperforming coach. It’s his club. He’ll go when he wants to. It is a great football club, one with only 2 spells of >1 yr in the top league in its c140 year existence, one of which was under the current owner.
This seems oddly churlish, Tut - you know full well no one is saying it in that way, or labouring under that misapprehension. We've had several years of direct evidence to the contrary play out in front of our eyes, even if anyone was under the slightly fantastical idea that he could be 'sacked', or that he isn't the owner of the club. People who are saying that are merely expressing their (possibly newfound) belief that we have reached a juncture from which there is unlikely to be any coming back (not me, because I've been in that camp for a while).
I’m just saying it’s rather pointless to say that it is “time for him to go” as though he will decide he really ought to sell. Unless someone decides to bankroll us I fully expect our next move out of this league to be downwards a la Derby, Bolton, Portsmouth etc irrespective of who owns us. Our golden era is well and truly over.
Odd post. Of course nobody thinks he can be sacked. Would be nice if our fans would at least make him feel uncomfortable though sitting in his box as he runs the club into the ground. Get the banners out. And if the Pozzo jackboots kick out people in their hundreds then it would underline the point of what a despot he is. Of course it won't happen as our fans will just suck it up.
I think there are still many who find it easier to just blame the players and more so the manager as if they haven’t learnt that the constant changing doesn’t work .
I feel the Pozzos have conditioned us (even their detractors) to always call for the manager's head...
Definitely. Particularly on the WO site . Seriously don’t think I have seen as much criticism for a manager on there tbh. Not saying some isn’t warranted as we have been poor and some there are strange tactics /selections but there are a lot who fans saying they won’t come in the future unless the football gets better which won’t go down well with the hierarchy.
You're always going to get more leeway if you play attacking football, but we don't have the personnel to play that effectively (we tried it earlier in the season and we were near the relegation zone). The changes yesterday definitely helped us going forward, but ultimately we still lost and we were still too easy to cut through
If by current owner you mean Gino Pozzo alone, what do you make of my theory that it was not him that gave us the second of these spells, but rather his father? I will use a physics analogy to explain. Imagine you dropped a cricket ball from the roof of TuT Manor (or got your butler to do it). It would fall straight to the ground and we would all agree that that was due to the downward pull of gravity. Imagine now that you stood in front of your manor house and threw the cricket ball over the roof into the grounds beyond. Obviously gravity acted to bring the ball down to earth but, what is perhaps less obvious, is that gravity was the predominant force on the ball from the moment it left your hand, even though it travelled upwards a considerable distance to clear your mansion. The only time gravity was 'overcome' was when it was in your hand being propelled upwards. In an analogous fashion, I hypothesise that it was Gino's father that provided the impetus for our upward movement. We continued to rise after Gino's father let go of us, but that does not mean that Gino was helping us upwards at that time. It could be that the only upward force was supplied by his father and that Gino has been a constant gravity-like downward pull.
Odd post. I don’t say anyone thought he could be sacked. I just said that stating it was “time for him to go” was rather pointless given it’s his decision and he’ll go when he wants. As I’ve said before the transition back to being one of the smaller champ clubs was always going to be a painful one.
