He's a starting player for a side chasing play offs, and a decent rotation option for a club wanting promotion. He was a good free transfer and will be a good option off the bench next year if we get relegated.
I actually think Hungbo will be a decent option for us, there’s something about him. Liked him off the bench under Xisco, he’s improved with his loan; and the word around him is his work ethic and his willingness to improve is one of the best. No idea on Kalu, and I’d sell Sema and possibly Zinck if we can get £4m+
Yeah out of the four I'd probably keep Hungbo over the others. Kalu you'd imagine would be good in the Championship but we have no idea if he can play football properly yet.
I will just caveat that my choice of Hungbo for the wordplay was purely based on convenience/availability of aforementioned play - I'm not sure how much we can tell from him doing decently at Ross County, but I have nothing against him and would be interested to see if he can come back and impress/contribute at Championship level as an option. If there are whispers that he is a good character with a good work ethic, that may count against him in the eyes of the Stability, however.
But he’s only played for us in the Championship - in your scoring of the ‘every player signed under Pozzo’ thing on Twitter, you scored him 3/10? That suggests you think he’s crap no?
Usually players go out and loan wanting to prove a point to the manager - he's probably thinking with the rest "who will be the manager" when I return!?
That rating is based on overall impact for the club. He made 9 starts and scored once, hence the low rating. If he'd been a key player, over an entire season, that rating would be higher. Doesn't mean I don't think he's an average Championship player, which he is.
He played as a CM? 9 starts and scoring once isn’t that bad - not great I grant you, but it’s better than 3/10. Especially when you factor in that he was joint-highest assist maker for the side in half the time of any of his teammates had to post similar numbers. Those assists undoubtedly contributed to us coming 2nd and getting promoted. That’s a great impact on his time at the club. 3/10 suggests he was crap, not average…when in reality, he was better than average in what he actually contributed.
Who cares man, really? Feel free to do your own ratings. A 3/10 wasn't a diss at him, he played his role in promotion, but I don't think he was essential, or pivotal.
I think 3/10 is fair as he only played a small part in the season. It's like a sub coming on with 20 mins to go, you can't give him 7 or 8 out of 10 unless he does something incredible. If he had played the full season and ended up with 5 goals and 10 assists which he could have easily done playing in a team at the top end of the division then I'm sure the score would be higher. this season so far I imagine 6/10 is a fair reflection on his output?
Dare I suggest you do? You have offered a lot of opinion on this thread, far more than for any other player. I just found it odd that you say you haven’t suggested he’s crap - but a lot of your posts do lean towards that. And 3/10 for what he did for 50% of last season seems strangely low, even if you don’t rate him. I admit I do like him as a player, and I think he should have been kept on or at least recalled in January. While I don’t profess to be certain he’s good enough for the PL, he does offer characteristics that no one else (except maybe Joao Pedro) in the squad offers as a progressive, attacking central player. If we had other options I’d understand it far more - but I just can’t be convinced he was worth a place more than Sema or Fletcher - or worth buying more players like Kayembe when we already own PZ.
Why do you care, specifically, about the rating of a silly little thread on a Twitter account? I think, with respect, you're still misunderstanding the rating system? Zinckernagel played in 22% of minutes across a promotion season, and scored 1 goal and a few assists. How many points did those goals/assists win us? Do you think we still would have gained those points with Sema on the pitch instead? I rate Miguel Latin, he played a similar-ish role in a promotion season, scored our first PL goal and also scored a 3/10. Again, not a slight on Miguel, just a fair assessment of his impact on the pitch for the club. What would you award PZ? Surely no more than a 5??
I’d say 3/10 indicates complete rubbish to a neutral observer. I’d say to be fair all players subs or otherwise start at average (5/10) and then their output changes their score from there. For example Sema this season has probably managed to work his way to 2/10 so awful has his output been. Zink last season? I’d guess he either stays at 5 or gets to 6. Zink this season 7 would seem fair. But I should stress I really don’t care. In fact not sure why I just spent a few minutes writing this drivel.
Donny you're out of your element! I will not be giving Samuel Kalu a 5/10 I'm afraid. For me, all players start as a 0 and work their way to a decent score. But again, who really cares about a silly little Twitter thread in which I made up the rules.
My goodness, you can tell it’s an international break when we’ve got nothing better to talk about other than whether Zinckernagel is either average, or below average. For what it’s worth, I think it’s the former. Don’t think he’d have been a factor in the Premier League, though it would have been hard to be as ineffective as King Ken. Chances are, he’d have been equally as underwhelming.
I care about as much as you when you come on and post ‘dropped’ unceremoniously when he’s not picked. Why do you care about a silly little thread on a forum? Awkward. You ask ‘Why do I care?’ I care because I thinks he’s a far better option than we have planned had all season as an attacking midfield option - who was better who was picked regularly? I care because we all invest in this club. And this is an option I feel to help get us out of it better than those deemed ‘available’. Happy to continue if those reasons are not enough. Because as much as we have called a truce these days, I know you don’t like to admit when you’re going down a rabbit hole!
Surely you see the difference between caring about how a Watford player is doing out on loan, and caring about a trivial rating on a Twitter thread given little to no actual thought? This is a simple misunderstanding where you've misread that rating as Zinc-slander, when it isn't. So I'll ask again. When the criteria is purely Impact Made On The Pitch For Watford, what score would you honestly award PZ for his 1 goal and 5 assists in the equivalent of 10 Championship games? To help you make a decision, if we took away Phil's GA contributions, we'd have earned 90 points last season, instead of 91. 1 goal in a 6-0 win, 1 assist in a 2-0, 2 assists in a 4-1, 1 assist in a 2-0, and his wayward shot that deflected off Sarr in the 1-1 against Boro. 4/10? 5/10?
Scored tonight against the best team in The Champ. Surely we still can’t deny he would’ve been worse than Sema in The Prem?
I’m not sure that Sema is the relevant comparison. How many games has he started or played in? Maybe Sema was more willing to play the limited role he did. Clearly Zinckernagel would have been better than Sema but not than Sarr, Cucho, Dennis. He has now had a season doing pretty well for a promotion chasing side in the Championship and he is well-placed to play a key role for us next season or get us a handy profit by selling him to Forest. Better than rotting on our bench.
I’m sure Sema was quite happy with any role after the idiotic contract extension he obtained. Given he is absolutely atrocious I’d rather we just shipped him out. Zink would not have made any difference this season given Pozzo’s horrendous squad building but I’d sure have been happy to see him off the bench every so often getting premier league minutes as opposed to the abysmal Sema who is going to stink this place out for another 3 years, sucking resource, due to usual Pozzo incompetence.
Would have been better than Cleverley, who has played plenty and in a similar role? That’s a fair comparison. Would also have been better being brought back from his loan rather than buying Kayembe.
Funnily enough it was indeed a very scrappy goal after a defensive error. But to be fair to him he did work hard to put the defender under pressure.
One of the least appealing aspects of next season is watching Sema trundle around one footed, and then posters on his thread triumphantly saying how he has proved everyone wrong after scoring two goals against Hull. See Cleverly thread last year.
I have absolutely no doubt King Ken will be at Udinese next season, supposedly Marvellous Marvin has somehow got a few suitors around Europe and is out of contract.
Championship defenders sussed him out pretty quickly, god knows why we thought the answer was a contract extension and a place in the PL squad.
