I'm not trying to re surface Yellow Order arguments here, and bear in mind im not just suggesting an ultra group.

Anyway, today proved that we needed a singing section at Wembley. But we also generally need a bigger singing section at home and away. The Rookery is near silent most weeks. I know LOTS of people who wanted to sing and stand today without being told to sit down and shut up. But also if people who actaully want to sing at the Vic sit together then it creates an atmosphere which can then spread to other areas. People want to sing at Watford, but people need a little bit of organisation it seems.

    Thoughts?

Sing what? Yellow army until fade, Zola being a midget or u orns

Somebody with a nous of musical talent please create a simple and catchy song.....CPFC may be annoying but it's very simple so even the day trippers can sing it!!

Definitely up for something like this. But where to start???

Agreed. The singing has to concentrated to get a critical mass and the songs have got to be catchy so they spread. We lack both these at Watford.

    We should sing....

We're all living the yellow Pozzo dream, the yellow Pozzo dream, the yellow Pozzo dream.

in the style of yellow submarine :D

Still think singing Zola to the tune of Lola and reinstating Watford FC to the tune Hey Jude would be catchy enough to work.....but then I'm no song writer

Totally agree the louder it is the more people join in, snowball effect.

I don't get the whole not catchy thing.

What's hard to work out most of our songs; yellow army, Forestieri, almen Abdi, deeney all very easy lyrics.

  9. Halfwayline

Because they are all dull and , with the exception of yellow army, are rarely sung

Maybe we should just try these things when someone comes up with them. If they don't work, we'll stop singing them. But maybe give them a go.

Probably more important is figuring out how to get everyone together. What percentage of the singers are represented on the forum? Is there a representative to go to the club?

The only chant to ever get everyone going was Elton John's Taylor Made Army don't know why the update Gino Pozzo's Zola Powered Army hasn't caught on

I think thats a major point.
For all intents and purposes TYO were the first 'singing section' we've had and i seem to recall it even worked in fits and spurts.
    However..
While their effort was welcome i think the term 'ultra' puts some people off. There is an element of superfan.. 'we are better supporters than you' .. about it. I think it will also put off some older lads who want a bit of a sing song but think the whole ultra scene is for the young'uns.

Why not just ask the club to state that one of two sections will be designated singing areas and see what happens? Cant be hard for them to agree to that and announce it on the website & in the programme. Can it?

I dig this idea, I was fortunate to be in a slightly noisier block today and we managed to get a few chants going for a bit but most of the fans did nothing

Can we get rid of yellow army please. Effing hate that chant after today, it's so dull and only ever goes for a couple of rounds yet it is the chant most people join in on. Singing/standing section is clearly needed.

We've had 97,000 of these threads and none of them have changed the atmosphere. Still, if I was less depressed I'd have something better to say. Have to agree that a catchy and simple song is needed .

Lets learn from Palace. They have all the elements for great support:

Glad all over is a basic, catchy intro that gets everybody singing. Yellow is a great anthem but not to sing along to (Z cars is even worse)

They have 2/3 really simple songs that everybody can join in with, especially CPFC. They also have that other one that they bounce to - simple melodies. We could steal CPFC and replace with WFC. Yellow army and Hoist..flag just aren't catchy enough

They have a section who start the singing and everybody follows

Lastly, and possibly most importantly, they have passion and all want to sing along. At our home game I saw people of all ages singing along to the above songs

Hollywood or William can sort the singing section, if they want to do it again, but what are we going to sing

  19. Shakespearo

We should literally learn from Palace. Someone needs to reach out to their HFers (or whatever they go by) and find out how they manage to organise themselves so effectively.

There will be a lot of stick from them initially - mostly good natured, some bad - but we will probably find that they will be flattered to have their achievement appreciated by another set of fans. After all, there's no bad history between us like they have with Brighton and there's no on-pitch rivalry fir a few years at least either.

couldn't agree more. we need to be there for the team. A section at the stadium in the middle somewhere so that the songs would radiate outwards. (don't like the word ultra where i live in the Cz Rep it has quite a dark conotation)
but a standing or singing area so each week we could hear new songs and the crowd could learn them too. Maybe ask the guys at from the rookery to air some lyrics each podcast or something.
Its not fair to expect the team to do it all for us we need to get behind them. How long will the pozzos stay if they dont feel the crowd is behind the club.
Cmon guys best time for this club in ages we need to get behind the club.
we dont need to change our identity but maybe some of us have to except that its a new era and maybe we need to pass the mantle onto the young fans for some inventive songs and move the club forward.
Can't believe we dont have any elton songs to sing. God he's written enough. Someone must be able to make a funny song out of the lion king songs or something.
crocodille rock also must be an easy song to sing.

Err as long as it remains a decent business proposition for the family and their other clubs I imagine. The number of people attending affects that - noise doesn't.

Would there be promotion and relegation to and from the singing group?

    I wouldn't want to become a passenger.

I think there could be a lot of support for something like this, just it would need some organisation

Copied from "The fans today..." thread

The whole club needs to learn the lessons of yesterday.

The players need to learn from their (with few exceptions) poor perfromances on the biggest stage.
Manager and coaches need to learn how to beat managers like Holloway who got his tactics spot on and left us looking like we didnt know what to do to change things on the pitch.

The fans need to understand the nature of this club and its support - its not new - we've always had quiet supporters. But it will never change while we spend our time moaning and sniping at each other instead of organising ourselves, galvanising the passion that undoubtedly exists and sort this out.

We need to work with the club to come up with an answer to the "singing section" problem, just suggesting it should happen wont make it happen. I don't know what that answer is but surely there must be SOMETHING we can do?

Equally there is no point in applauding Palace for having great fans and great songs and bemoaning out lack of an anthem. Every time someone on here suggests an anthem they get ridiculed. Even when the club came up with the "Corrigan Brothers - Your Song" before Wembley it got no support, only derision.
We, the fans need to come up with an anthem - it will take hard work and probably loads of failed attempts - but WE have to do it - no-one else is going to "Magic" one up for us out of thin air.

I dont know if we need to organise meetings or a "supporters group" (maybe the Trust should be taking the lead?) to take this forward and actaully make things happen.

Frankly I was disappointed with the team yesterday. Today I am disappointed with the fans (me included) We're all happy to moan but none of us is prepared to do anything to get us organised enough to change the "quiet supporter" image of our club.

The really good thing to come out of yesterday would be a change in our attitude as supporters .

    REPLY -
Yep, you've got it spot on '1976'.
It's one thing going on about it, but if we really want to change this then we have to go about it in the right way which means influencing the club to take it seriously.

We cannot underestimate the link between voiciferous support and team response - yes it goes both ways, but I believe that yesterday's game was influenced by this.

So what are we gonna do? Ideas in moving this issue forward?

    Who's up for the challenge?

This won't happen unless some enthusiastic, organiser type people put some thought into it, approach the club and the wheels get set in motion to start making a difference.

Those Palace fans are a known group to the club, they are in regular contact and they got their seats together because the club arranged it for them.

It is the only way. You don't need thousands to start a chant but the ones that do need to be together and committed.

There are definitely some good organisers on here and the club would want a way of improving the atmosphere.

The 4th Stand could be the name of the group...

I gave you my Manuel Almunia song, and I was derided. I've even written another - "Thank you to the Pozzo's" to the tune of Abba's "thank you for the Music." But no doubt I will be told it's ****. The trouble with genius's is that we are often misunderstood.

Definitely - as a lot of people on here have really strong feelings about this then they should be looking to get involved in actually doing something about it. A task force could focus on home games, away games, and special occasion games such as yesterday - and the best proposed arrangements for all three as required.

Its been done. People from on here have been trying for 3 years to do the very thing this thread is on about but the hurdles to get over are apparently numerous. A lot is contingent on the club building a new East Stand and then having the flexibility to move people around and free up space for a singing area. Until that happens the club have made it abundantly clear that the best they can offer occasional use of the Vicarage Road End home side.

A big part of the atmosphere issue is the fact that Vicarage Road doesn't have the greatest acoustics and the missing East Stand. That's another reason why going up would have been great. It would have almost certainly sped up the construction of the new East Stand.

Thanks for that UEA - that all makes perfect sense. Im still playng catch up with whats been going on on this forum so you'll have to bear with me if Im not fully up to speed!

In the meantime we should concentrate on the songs?

This should be helped once we have definite conformation of who stays and who goes, and who comes in :)

It seems fairly simple to me - everyone who wants to sing get as near the middle/upper central Rookery as you can. The atmosphere was better in the late 90's early 2000's when everyone who wanted to sing sat in the middle area of the Rookery (North stand before then.) If you want to sing but sit in the Lower rous or on the far edges of the Rookery it quite simply isn't going to happen you'll be on your own. Once all like minded people sit nearer each other we can build a base of atmosphere, and then more people on the edges will join in. The louder a song the less stupid people feel for joining in.

In terms of variety, i agree it's poor. I think introducing one new song could work but don't try for more than that people struggle to get the new words. Get some song sheets printed out if you are serious about it and stick them on peoples seats.

To choose what that one new song is try and get the Wobby involved see if they will do a poll for what song people prefer the most out of a few choices from what people above have thought up.

But it's not as simple as that. How are you going to move the season ticket holders in that location and don't sing?
