Supposedly it was a relegation release clause and given that Hull in January looked certain to go down, he probably wanted a way out. Hull took the risk and it nearly paid off but it didn't.

I'm sure Hull were probably a little over confident once Silva came in and they thought he could turn it in around, so didn't hesitate to that deal. Either that or it was like you said and the player basically said I'm not coming unless this is in there. They wanted to stay and knew that they needed better players so just agreed to it.

Either way I hope we benefit from it

 

You've just contradicted your first post. 3 million he can talk to anyone who matches it so illogical for Newcastle to bid more. The bidding war is wages, not transfer fee for a standard release clause.

Grosicki got 5 assists in 12 appearances which is more than amrabat and jurado in 2 seasons. Would say in that case atleast he was an upgrade
