    Sounds OK!

Could be a potential steal at that price, though he has had his fair share of injury, but if MC likes him he should be worth the risk at just £3m, especially as apparently he qualifies as HG.

He's been nothing more than average for Norway. But then the whole national team has been taken backwards.

Jakupovic and Grosicki wouldn't be bad but think this article is a load bull.

Jakupovic will want to be first choice and unless we are selling Gomes, really doesn't make sense to sign him. Would rather us sign Scuffet, Meret or Lafont. Young GK's who can gain experience from league cup/FA cup games while pushing Gomes and getting ready to be No.1 the following season.

Grosicki for £3mil is a great deal and hope it happens. Pace and not afraid to run at players. Great option to have on the bench.

He's rubbish mate, he plays for Bournemouth.

All joking aside, I wouldn't be surprised to see West Ham go in for him.

Haha, bit early yet I think! Could just be an Ighalo.

I reckon one more season with Sir Eddie Howe, buoyed by the fact he'll be learning off Defoe, if he gets 15+ goals again next season then he'll be off.

Even as early as January if he starts brightly!

  19. Markoa$

    Markoa$ Squad Player

Yeah very true mate. With them bringing in Defoe makes you wonder what they will do with Calum Wilson who will be back, one of them will have to/want to be sold.

They probably have babyface for the next 2 seasons now Wenger has signed on but after that he will be the new Arsenal manager.

Wilson, King, Defoe & Afobe. Not bad striking options at all and all homegrown!

Begovic at the back is also the start of them building a solid base. As much as it pains me to say it they really are doing some good work over there!

  21. Markoa$

    Markoa$ Squad Player

Yeah they really, not that I'm green about it, ok I am slightly haha.

Yeah I just can't see them keeping all four and would be surprised if they kept three. Not that they wouldn't want too but players want to play. Wilson will want to prove his worth again. King won't want to be dropped after replacing Wilson and showing he is more than capable of doing the business. Then Defoe is trying to push for one last World Cup again so will also want to play regularly.

One of them will leave, obviously not Defoe, so it will be out of King and Wilson. I wouldn't mind either here.

What about Brice Dja-djedje though? An even cheaper backup, as he's already here. (or so I'm told, I've never actually seen him.)

The article says £7.7m for Grosicki.

  24. Markoa$

I know, but every other media outlet reported him having a £3mil relegation release clause. Hence why I think that article is bull, plus it's the mirror.

  25. Carpster

Agreed, plus he's not even a Hull player.

If we are going to play 4 at the back next season it makes sense to have an out an out full back although I do feel Janmaat is capable. Omar Elabdellaoui stated to the Hull Daily mail last week that he is ''happy to follow Marco Silva anywhere in summer''. Clearly a player with a good relationship with the manager and Silva should be able to get the best out of him.

Indeed ,forgot about him an exception to every rule I suppose.
Norway did have a useful side back in the day , when Viking stavangar beat a couple of supposed English giants in the UEFA cup I think .

Just because the release clause is X does not mean that the market price can't be 2X if another club (Newcastle) want him too

  29. Supertommymooney

    Supertommymooney Squad Player

    True.
Although he may have been looking the other way or through his hands during the last game of the season...

  30. Markoa$

Doesn't matter what market price is if he has a release clause in his contract of £3mil, that bid has to be accepted. Remember when Arsenal offered £40mil and a penny. Liverpool had to accept it and allow Suarez to talk to them. Had Suarez agreed to join Arsenal then Liverpool wouldn't be able to turn around and say well his market value is twice that.

So he might be valued at £7mil but if his contract says £3mil release clause then they have to allow the player to speak to the bidding club regardless of his market value.

Why would on earth would Newcastle do that? Just pay 3 million and give the extra money to the player? If Newcastle offer 50 million and we offer 3 million Hull still have to accept both and then it is up to the player!

  32. miserableoldgit

    miserableoldgit Reservist

That is just not right - if there is one bidder and they bid 3m then Hull must sell - but the 3m is a minimum - i agree that it would be odd for the market to be so far above the minimum and it is more likely that the paper got it wrong but if we bid 3m to trigger the sale and the player wanted that then there would be no point anyone bidding more - but the player might be open to many clubs and therefore Newcastle could bid more or the same and Hull might accept that offer - we don't have to match it as our 3m triggers a sale but there is nothing to prevent us doing so and nothing Hull could do if we didn't - 3m is no more or less than the minimum figure that allows a player to talk to the other club

  33. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Surely it just depends on what the exact terms of the clause are? I'm sure there are many variations and potential exclusions.

I for one don't really understand why Hull would buy a player for £7m but allow a clause to be inserted in his contract allowing him to potentially leave for less than half of that within 6 months. If it's true I can only hazard a guess the player held almost all the leverage in that negotiation.

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

Given Hull's position at the time I can imagine the player being dead keen to be sure he could get away when they went down. He would have seem it as 15-20 games to make a name for himself and hopefully find a club and as you say would have held most of the negotiating power given their status.
