About the first thing GT did when appointed manager was to get Sam Ellis to follow him from Lincoln to be captain & GT's voice on the field. You didn't cross Sam Ellis and enjoy the aftermath, so GT's game plans and expectations of TOTAL commitment were very clearly understood by every player. And you're right, we really need that in spades at the moment.

He’ll almost certainly be sacked next week though given if the club is smart, a relegation sack clause. But fair play to you if it is McKenna — I’ve looked at his numbers for Ispwich and they’re by far the best in the league for underlying metrics etc. Would be a welcome change

 

Am I right in thinking McKenna plays 3 at the back? If so I fully endorse this appointment.

 

I’d much rather stay at Ipswich. Bigger club. Favourites for L1 next season. And the owners aren’t imbeciles.

That said, would be a good appointment for us in my opinion.

I didn’t mean to appoint him immediately. I meant to announce his future appointment, a la United and Ten Hag.

 

Ivic playing for 46 0 - 0 draws is not my idea of fun. I want us to do well and get re-promoted, but I would take an early-stage Zola failure over that any day.

Yes, but don’t forget the “underlying metrics”.

 

Bad finishing, bad goalkeeping will play a part. They’re under-performing their xG by 4 since he took over. But he’s turned their xGD from -0.33 to +1.22 for a sustained period. I’m not completely clued up on him, but from the Ipswich fans I’ve just spoken to one of them said “we’re playing the best football I’ve seen under KMC since Big John” (whoever that is) regarding Manning I really like him as well, but he’s also backed by one of the smartest directors of football in England — the set up around him is fantastic. Put McKenna in that environment and he’d have the same results I’d imagine

 

He signed a 3 and a half year deal with Ipswich in December, it wouldn't reflect well on him if he left and it would probably require decent compensation from us. Saying that we are a massive club so you can see why he'd leave Ipswich in a heartbeat.
