I certainly think it is laughable that keyboard warriors think that they are entitled to hurl personal abuse at real people on the internet, but don't think the victims are entitled to answer back at anonymous idiots.

Do you think the same about racist abuse, or sexist abuse, the victims should just shut up and take it? Or in your own words, it shouldn't even be acknowledged?

Just so I’m clear, are you suggesting that the kind of posts Burnsy,for example, makes constitute personal abuse? I think it’s possible to have a different outlook to your relentless positively without being someone who sends abusive messages to people on Twitter. Or is it all one way or the other in your book?

I'm aware it's not politics this time, but it's always something. When the toxic politics section was open the majority of the sniping was contained in there, now it's been closed it spills over into loads of other threads.

If posters think that keyboard warriers have every right to post such abuse as, "You were a useless **** today, and I hope your kids die of covid" (a real example that I have seen), but the victim is not allowed to even acknowledge such abuse, then I ask where they DO actually draw the line.

Yep agree that is absolutely beyond the line. But don’t think the people you are ranting at have posted things like that?

 

The football threads have had plenty of spite in them for years now. What we really need is a section for sanctimonious, easily offended bores so the rest of us can get on with the squabbling we love.

However in this case, nothing wrong with the discussion. It’s merely hit a nerve for some.

 

To be fair, the people who Chalobah was calling out and the people having a go at him for saying it are not by any means necessarily the same. Why the latter want to be thin-skinned on behalf of the former is the question.

Yes I think that's right. I imagine as a footballer you have a lot worse than "I think XYZ is miles below premier league standard" in their twitter feeds.

 

People on here are saying that victims of personal abuse should just take it, and not acknowledge they are being abused. Why? It may actually encourage more abuse and could be self-defeating, but it is their choice and shouldn't be criticised for responding, just as they shouldn't be criticised for responding to racial abuse. That is my point.

 

I'm just glad he's recovered from his horrendous, mystery illness that he conveniently suffered from alongside trying to leave the club.

I don't have an issue with Chalobah speaking out if he has been given grief on twitter etc. But not sure why you are telling some posters on here to own it as if they are the ones doing it.

Again, I would ask…if Chalobah was directing his ire at ‘fans’ who directed nasty personal abuse at him or his teammates, then why did he delete the post in question?

And I’m not condoning it - but after attending a lockdown party and not apologising, perhaps he might reflect on any abuse he might have got around that time? Just a theory.
