Next season a big one for him. Benefitted massively from having Zola as a mentor and in a team playing the ball on the floor. Won't get much game time if retained by Chelsea and going to a hoofing lower prem team like Cardiff or Palace not going to help his development. Hope he's one we can get back.
He's clearly not ready for the Prem yet; tries too many suicidal balls and isn't consistent enough. Another season with a team that will play him most games without being in a league that will punish every mistake he makes would do him good. That said, as much as I like him as a player, I'd prefer our own player or a Pozzo-club player if possible. I'd rather we didn't get dependent on a Chelsea loanee that we don't have a hope of signing.
It was reasonable to question it at the time. Clearly we were proven wrong. I'm sure you knew how good he'd be though. Well done.
It really wasn't as his performances this season have proved. Players the same age or younger than Chalobah have made decent contributions to sides at this level and higher many times before. No I didn't but I didn't completely write him off purely on the basis of his age and was willing to give him a chance. If you're going to make such sweeping and overwhelmingly negative statements you need to expect to be called up on them when you're proved to be wrong.
To be fair Nath you did kind of write him off without giving him any sort of chance to prove himself.
Never make sweeping statements too soon. He was clearly a fantastic prospect, that's all I really knew. Even after the 5-1 at Derby I didn't come out and criticise, because you have to give it time. Look at Deeney, a perfect example. Hopefully now people will know to absolutely trust the regime.
lots to learn, but definitely a good prospect. one of the most composed players i have seen in a yellow shirt.
Gotta love the internet. Idiocy is preserved for ever. Not even giving credit for not saying "Don't like the sound of this one. It's a no from me".
Again, as I've said to you many a time, get off your high horse. I was wrong and Chalobah turned out to be excellent, and I'm very glad about that. No real need for your childish, smug attitude about it.
Oh noes, someone ventured an opinion based on limited data and it proved to be incorrect after much time had passed. Better rub it in, teh interwebs demands it! Gordon Bennett...
There is clearly a difference between questioning Chalobah as an acquisition and dismissing out of hand before he even kicked a ball. There is also a difference between dismissing out of hand then claiming you were just questioning.
It didn't help he came as a supposed centre half who could play in midfield... Anyway glad we were proved wrong.
Gordon Bennett? England goalkeeper from 66 isnt he ? Dead mate, and even when he was alive he only had one eye. Thats a no from me
Absolutely pathetic dragging this up just to laugh at people that got it wrong. Thought we were all on the same side?
Some on here are quite pathetic unfortunately. This is a good place to follow the 'orns though, so it's a small price to pay IMO.
If it serves as a warning for some to place a little faith in our club when we sign unknowns this summer, it'll be worth it.
Agreed. Hopefully people will give players a chance before writing them off. I've seen Cassetti, Anya, Chalobah, Hogg, Doyley, Hall, Vydra and Deeney all slagged off this season.
I don't think he really needs to explain it. There are certain posters on here who seem to post with the sole intent of sniping at others. A cursory examination of the posting history of these individuals illustrates that quite nicely.
Can Zola explain it for him then? And while he's at it he can finally justify even considering signing this completely untested 17 year old on loan.
Jeez, some sensitive souls in this thread. Good job JB didn't bring up that thread where some posters called Zola 'just another Vialli'.
I'm sure he could. Zola is a classy gent. I'm certain he'd have no trouble explaining why someone digging up old opinions and gloating about them based on that happened subsequently is pathetic.
Similarly, I'm sure he'd be irritated and frustrated beyond belief by no marks on an Internet forum who know less about football than he has forgotten constantly questioning his decisions, judgement and asking him to explain himself and his signings.
He's an incredibly talented player, but when he has a bad game he has a very bad game. A good move by Chelsea to send him out so he can make his mistakes, which when he does make them they are centred around doing the wrong things in the wrong areas. When (if?) he wises up he will play at the top level, comfortably.
No, he wouldn't. That goes with being a professional. Doctors, dentists, engineers, nurses, IT staff, vets...all of these professions regularly deal with so-called "no marks", as you eloquently put it, questioning and discussing their decisions. It's something a professional deals with literally every day of the week. Not that I'd expect you'd understand that yet.
It doesn't mean that they have to like it and don't deserve to be praised when a decision they are questioned for making proves to be the right one. How many times do you see players and managers talking about 'proving a point' to fans and clubs that have written them off and celebrating victories in a 'I told you so' manner? Look at Briggs this season and the amount of opposition players who have scored and given it to our fans after getting stick. It doesn't matter how much of a proffesional someone is, many people are fuelled by the desire to prove people wrong. No amount of you generalising 'professionals' and baselessly speaking for Zola and the way you presume him to feel will change that.
What on earth does anything in this post have to do with bumping old opinions posted by other people? You've completely changed the topic of discussion to something no one even raised. No one is talking about motivation, Briggs, or a desire to prove someone wrong apart from you. As for "baselessly speaking for Zola", that applies more to this: ...than anything I've written. There is zero basis for anything in the above quoted text. Show me even one press conference that could lead you to draw that conclusion. I could show you a large number showing him to be a perfect gentleman who doesn't rub people's faces in things. Start with the post match video from from the Play Off Semi Final, second leg. Let me know if you spot him making any comments in there about internet posts from "no-names" on WFCForums questioning his signing of Chalobah.
I can't see why anyone would worry about getting proved wrong on a Forum. It happens to me regularly (well, occasionally) and, providing it is justified, I've no problem with it. If I was in the pub with my mates discussing these things, I'd get pulled up on thing s I got wrong, particularly if it was something I'd argued about strenuously - why not on a Forum. I actually think it makes for a better Forum. Too many posters just jump on bandwagons, make snap judgements and just start arguments for the hell of it. It's far better if posters know that we can be picked up on things we say, so we take just take that little bit of extra care when posting. And, why worry about being proved wrong? If we never say anything, then we'll never get things wrong. How boring.
