There's a lack of integrity in that graph.

The only thing that's been consistent this year is our back 4 midfield 2 durability. He may adapt his approach.

He looked good in the middle in the short time he had there against West Ham. Could play the same role Hamsik did under Mazzarri? Or he could play in a front 3.

Mazzarri: there is the agreement with Watford
    05/11/2016, 15:00

On June 30, will expire on his contract with Inter , but Walter Mazzarri is going to put an end to a month in advance to the relationship that bound him to the Nerazzurri. The coach of San Vincenzo, in fact, is to find a new coach for their future in the Premier League.

AGREEMENT WITH WATFORD - As learned from Calciomercato.com, Mazzarri has already holding a pre-agreement with Watford . The Pozzo family club is ready to give to Mazzarri's dream to coach in the Premier League. In the coming days is expected the final signing with Mazzarri who is expected to sign a two year contract with the Hornets.

He became head coach at Inter in Summer 2013 with a 2-year contract. Prolonged the following season to end at June 2016.
In November 2014 he was substituted by Mancini as head coach but the contract remains and he's still being paid by Inter.
Apparently, he's been happily living a sabbatical year in Manchester since March 2015, learning the language (http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Premi...ester-una-famiglia-inglese-130884316747.shtml).

His contract with them was until this summer so I'm assuming it's one of those ones where they've sacked him but have to continue paying him for the remainder of his contract.

Honestly, didn't mind much in the past to follow his style.
I know he often used 3-5-2. I read Kovacic at Inter complained about "too defensive playing".
Mazzarri has also shown also some very good playing at Napoli (well, with players like Cavani, Hamsik and Lavezzi ...) and some very dull matches in some matches at the helm of Inter (but with a very dull team honestly, in fact the so celebrated Mancini didn't do much better when he subbed him).

He's mostly known among Udinese fans as "piangina" (cry-baby) Mazzarri for his bad habit of finding always excuses after a defeat: the ref, the pitch, the weather, the long International pause, the too many matches in a few days ... whatever.
I hope he changed habits if he comes, because I guess that wouldn't be much appreciated by WFC's fans (rightly so!).

Anyway ... his CV as a coach is really good at all levels needed by a team in a position as Watford.
    https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Mazzarri#Carriera_da_allenatore
Three seasons at Reggina, a tinpot club (currently plummed into fourth tier) and he always saved them easily. Note: in 2006-07 the club had a -11 points penalty, but gained 51 points!).
Then two seasons at Sampdoria, average-size club, 6th in table (qualified to UEFA Cup) the first, only 13th the second but reaching the final in Italy Cup (lost at pens).
Then four seasons at Napoli, almost-big club, where he led them to their best results since the Maradona times: 6th, 3rd, 5th, 2nd.
Then one full season at Inter (5th) and the sacking after 3 months the following season.

That's a very good career honestly. Marred only by the "failure" at Inter, where I suspect the problem was not really the coach but team and club.

What I've discovered about Mazzarri -

    Kovacic: Mazzarri a defensive Coach

    (As mentioned by Sherlock)

Inter put on defensive display in U.S.

    http://www.espnfc.co.uk/club/intern.../1970919/inter-put-on-defensive-display-in-us

Another Goalless Home Performance By Inter

"What frustrates me about watching Inter play at home is that I feel Mazzarri is often trying not to lose, instead of trying to win. The moves that epitomise that philosophy were his second-half substitutions."

    http://www.espnfc.com/club/internaz...n-plays-not-to-lose-rather-than-going-for-the

    Walter Mazzarri, The Unwanted Continuity

"There is a common tactical pattern among all the clubs Mazzarri managed before Inter. They are 3 men defence, solid defending, vertical football, and reliance on certain individuals to score the goals."

    http://forzainterforums.com/showthread.php?12725-Walter-Mazzarri-The-Unwanted-Continuity

Inter Club Focus: Walter Mazzarri Outlclassed And Losing It

"Mazzarri has been derided for his negative tactics following the result, with his defensive mentality clearly shown in his desire to play for a 0-0 draw. What fans witnessed were a Nerazzurri side who were prepared to sit back and absorb pressure against an inferior team, which allowed Milan to gain confidence and build attacks. Of course this should come as no surprise as Mazzarri has played like this throughout the season and will not change."

    http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2014/05/inter-club-focus-walter-mazzarri-outlclassed-and-losing-it/

Sounds a lot like Flores except with a reliance on 3-5-2 instead of a formation with four at the back. After Sannino left I never thought we'd see a defensive 3-5-2 again at Watford. Should be interesting.

I don't care if we play defensive football. I especially don't care if that keeps us up.

I care if that means constantly playing players out of position, always using his favourite players even when they're underperforming, refusing to play younger players in pointless games etc.

He certainly doesn't sound like a downgrade, whether he'll be a step-up is another matter.

Don't focus on the Inter year he had, there were so many things going on in the background that made his position untenable - focus on the three years he had at Napoli!

Quique's problem is not his tactics, but his negative and toxic management of players through first teamers to development players. If Quique mixed it up, and did not drop players who showed promise whilst keeping in players who continually under perform, he would not leave himself open to the criticism he has been getting.

I suspect we'd have a few more points on the board as well. We could hardly have less than in the last few months.

I'd like to read similar quotes and analysis from the Napoli years.

Whilst if it is this guy, I welcome him with the same coldness I welcomed Flores having watched West Brom & Southampton at home (nevertheless Flores deserves great credit for what he has achieved this year). I am actually comforted that he also has a defensive side to his tactics (we have learnt this season that it is a requirement) but by looking at his history you can suspect he has an offensive side to him (in more ways than one! ;) ) and if that turns out to be the case then it will be the next piece in the jigsaw with the type of players we have and those we bring in.

Here's a heads-up, Walter. You're a foreigner coming over here to take a job away from Steve McLaren or whoever, so nobody will like you. Watford is a long way from Manchester, and we don't have enough rain down here. No midweek games until Christmas, and then they come thick and fast so you won't be able to keep up with the reality shows on TV. You have to play over Christmas instead of having fun. You'll be last on MOTD. Shearer won't know who you are. Moog will take the ****. If you don't pick Jurado, the fans will be up in arms.

But I'm sure you'll adjust to the Cauldron of Hate that is Vicarage Road.

There are always some happy clappers around. Ray Lewington would probably still be here if it was down to me. Actually that's probably untrue, more like Ken Furphy.

I asked James Richardson and the Guardian podcast his opinion, he answered on the pod... Basically laughed and said he'd be astonished if the Pozzo's go for him and his time at Inter was a complete failure. Didn't sound positive..

Doh, if a coach CV must be judged only by his last appointment, it's worth remembering that Ranieri had a complete failure with Greece.

Yeah, but what does logic matter in football these days? James Richardson used to present English TV's Italian football coverage about 20 years ago, he knows what he's talking about.

I loved 'Gazetta'.Especially the Ince episode at Christmas where he gave him cards-yellow and red!

The Ranieri point is a fair one.I had a dream a few weeks back that we appointed Walter Zenga so it would be odd if I somehow got the first name correct, even if it was cheese related!
