Do I really have to list examples? I thought everyone knew this already. Changed name to conceal his identity, pulled out of fans forum at the last minute, promised to do a radio Q&A and pulled out at the last minute, promised to do a radio Q&A in January but didn't, threatened to withhold £1m funds to hurt the club unless he got an apology from GT, stated we are no longer a soft touch and we no longer need to sell our best players unless we get an offer we can't refuse, then we sell Sordell for a "stunning" £3.5m and would have sold Mapps for a "stunning" £2m also. Need I go on? He's done very few interviews and I think it is because he knows he gets easily found out. He would prefer a secretive silence. I think there is enough there to put doubts in minds of most fans as to the credibility of this man and his reasons for buying a football club. Is is a fashion accessory to boost his ego, or is he in it purely for the betterment of the club? I am open minded, but he has done enough for me not to trust him. How much stadium work has actually taken place? How much investment has gone into the playing side? So far, it's all been talk and buying time. Soon time will run out on him and he has to deliver. I would be delighted if I am proved wrong.
Not sure if some1 posted this already. Here's a link to Bolton's website, they have a slideshow of Sordell's career. http://www.bwfc.co.uk/page/MonthlyClubGallery/0,,1004~2596543,00.html
I think some of you are need to remember that we will always be a selling club,no matter who is in charge of us.Blissett,Barnes,Dyer,Furlong,James etc,the list is endless,it goes back 25 years. So us selling Sordell and others is just another part of our history of selling. We buy cheap or produce our own and sell on,and that will happen til the end of time,Never see it changing unless we have a billionaire that does not want his money. Also some of you are forgetting that Bas and GT would have discussed the sordell and Mapps offers, and in our position we simply can not turn down the sums being offered. It keeps us going while other clubs like pompey are seeing winding up orders every other month hitting them. IMO the sordell fee was to good to turn down, because I do not rate him that highly or at the current time put him in a £3.2 mill bracket, simply because he does not produce every week, look at the middlesborough away performance from him, that was too often seen, and he will struggle at Bolton,it's to soon for him.
Well said.... it seems to me that we had to sale someone the way we let sorrdell go for a crap price when you think we got £9m+ for Young would we of sold Sorrdell if mariappa went or would we have lost both we are down the bottom of the league and we sale our top scorer in a team that cant really score for crap money without getting a replacement in how much will it cost the club if we go down? i bet about the same as the club got for sorrdell
How is any of this a fabrication of the truth? He was the one who admitted to changing his name. Prove that he was no ill at the fans forum and radio Q&A? He did threaten to withol funds which I will still put down to a bit of knicker friction between him and GT 6 of 1 and all that. What do you expect him to say about selling players? Would you have preferred a we are looking to sell statement reducing the value of the players even further (Paul Robinson anyone?) Dyche has had the biggest budget for players of any of our last three managers so I don't think you can question the investment in the playing side. With regards to the stadium he has said the pitch is booked an work will commence shortly on the corner so we can eventually rebuild the east stand. I think you underestimate how much of a mess the club was in before he took over. As stated previously he does not have an endless pit of money to draw from and is making decisions that benifit the club in the long term. Before he took over you are right time would run out but as we are now not making a loss (by your figures) he has given us a club that can continue.
hahahahaahahahahahahahahaha. Undisclosed fee. So much for openness and honesty. You really couldn't make it up
i think Bolton are going a bit mad about him lol http://www.bwfc.co.uk/page/MonthlyClubGallery/0,,1004~2596543,00.html
I disagree with this. He has not only played for the u21's, but he has looked the dogs *******s in a couple of the games and outshone the likes of Jack Rodwell and Jordan Henderson. He could be the next Lionel Messi (i'm not saying he is btw) but because he played for Watford there was no chance of an England call up! The next couple of years will show that we should have got a much bigger fee than £3m. Even now it is fairly obvious that we got under the going rate for a player who was on his way to 20 goals this season, especially him being English (which usually equates to blown up fee's in itself!) in a poor team.
After reading that it is incredible and quite frankly ridiculous how people are still able to defend him.
I'm not saying he's not done well when he's played at U21 level. I'm saying it means nothing with respect to his value due to the poor level and wide drag-net for U21 caps. All it does is increase his exposure to higher level players, scouts and agents.
Interesting to hear Baz's version of events, the idea that it was external influences which caused the transfer is certainly not what the Watford Observer reported and certainly not what others have said. Would be very interested to know if that is accurate about his discussion with Graham Taylor before agreeing to a deal
How long was left on Marv's contract? Was the threat to "let his contract wind down" for 4 months really such a gun to the head?
Because, He has got off to a bad start, communication wise, probably down to the fact that he had no experience dealing with such a public organisation such as a football club, he is now damned if he does speak and damned if he doesn't, with his critics choosing to believe snippets when it suits them and imply accusations of lying when it doesn't. No wonder, he doesn't want to talk publically. For example, has there been any sale of a Championship or Premiership player in recent times when there has been NO 3rd party influence, such as agents, yet when LB mentions that, you are basically accusing him of lying. Why don't people accept that he has got involved in the Club either as a business proposition, or vanity, or both, just like 95% of all club owners. BTW, if the figure is over £3m, I don't consider it such a bad sum as, for me, MS will not be a smash hit in the Premiership. Just my opinion.
End fo the day there was no-one but Bassini interested in the club....we probably wouldn't have a club owner at all to moan about now if he hadn't come along as we'd be bust.
As we all know, Mr Bassini clearly stated he had two offers for over £15m within a few days of his take over. Now, you have to either concede he is lying about this or you have to concede we could have easily sold the club to someone else. It's one or the other.
That's not true, Joe Sim wanted to buy us as well and that guy who had been convicted for a property scam before.
That's fair enough..I meant orginally (was aware of the "fake" investor) but not the Joe Sims chap so sorry for not being totally correct. I am sure he would've taken one of the 15 million offers if they were that concrete ...he must have had some doubt or as you say it was a made up story.
Apparently he has been injured by a freak eye injury after being hit in the face with a ball during training. Contains strong language. 12:31mins in Spoiler http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=puRqrVhqyAM#t=751s
Just seen this on twitter, quite interesting regarding Sordell and West Ham. http://www.westhamtillidie.com/2012...van-part-3-we-tried-to-sign-tevez-and-torres/ How much were we going to sell him for? I thought we were past selling players for nothing!
I guess 3 million which is what Cardiff offered... Doesn't score many goals..how many is the West Ham top scorer on?
From reading this, I think Watford sold Sordell at the right time. It sounds like Marv and Sky were demanding huge wages that Watford would never have been able to meet and his contract would have wound down, resulting in a free transfer. On the plus side, we did seem to sell him for the best offer available. Just a shame because he's gone from playing every game top goalscorer to not even on the bench, 2nd bottom of the league. Could we potentially get him back on loan?
I think the reason why he isn't even on the Bolton bench at the moment is that he has picked up an injury in training.
Keeping hold of him until the summer would not have had a negative impact on the fee. In fact we would have probably got more, more clubs would be interested and we would have had time to sign a decent replacement. That is of course assuming that Sordell's agent was forcing a move, which I understand to be debatable.
