Whatever. Wrong thread agreed. Nothing wrong with the content though. 90% of the forum thought the Blackburn o.g. was correctly disallowed. Didn't stop it getting banged away at ad infinitum though.
Been looking into this Lancia kid. Plays for Reggina and apparently Udinese were after him in the summer. Not sure if there is anything in at all considering it has now been removed from Wiki. But there is some link there.
Motta realises a dream.....to play for Watford. http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/03/watford-defender-realises-dream/ .........ok I added that last bit, although it's probably true :]]
http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/150303-marco-motta-interview-watford-fc-2308431.aspx Seems reasonably confident of himself. “Experience, Enthusiasm & Professionalism” Hopefully he doesn't do a Kuszczak "I don't make mistakes" if he debuts.
very tidy. great signing on tonights showing. can defend 'italian style' not quite yet the beard mark II but theres promise
A solid defender with good passing and a great first touch & technical ability. Looks like another quality player to add to the collection.
Very smartly forced a corner from our half of the pitch combined with the hassling of Deeney with about 10 to go, very intelligent, as was his immediate reading of the game, at one point centrally bringing the ball down past two high Fulham challenges and starting a promising attack.
Just seems an eminently sensible footballer. Nothing too flashy, very tidy, not many mistakes beyond giving the ball away once in the first half. Lots of good passes and a couple of dangerous-looking crosses. It's just nice to have someone who seems to make mostly correct decisions, in stark contrast to Paredes.
Can he play the Chalobah role and get 20 goals a season? If not, then some of our members will be out.
We still haven't really filled the Chalobah role, to be fair, which is why all this good form is dangerous. Our fatal flaw has been overlooked.
I have to confess when he made his debut against Fulham, I had my doubts. For me his positioning didn't look that great and I thought he would struggle against any pace, especially if he left the kind of gaps he was leaving behind. I still think he hasn't had that test yet, so I remain with doubts as to how he can handle that. Yesterday he did show better positioning overall, worked very hard, but this was an easy day for him for his defensive work. His attacking play looks to be a threat, has good control and a very nice ball into the box, delightful shot that hit the bar on the half volley after neat skill to beat his man. I'm sure Deeney/Ighalo are going to welcome that kind of service. But the overall thing for me is he is a unit, well built and will be very difficult to beat at this level and to be fair any level. A welcomed starter in my book, much preferred to Paredes as our best XI (for now).
every single time someone praises one of our fullbacks for getting forward and contributing to attacks, they then criticise them for their 'positioning'. are you seriously expecting them to do be doing both simultaneously? i know i've talked about this before, but if the manager is telling them to bomb forward (which all 4 of our managers this season seem to have done) and we're only playing on wide player (as we've mostly done all season in our 352) then it's the responsibility of the midfielder/defender on his side to cover or the responsibility of the manager to change his tactics. you can't have it both ways
But I'm not talking about when he is attacking and tracking back. I'm talking about his awareness and leaving a player too much space as a defender when defending, it will bite him when there is a player that has that pace, thats what I'm cautious about and why I mention his positioning. It has nothing to do with rational of overall tactics of attack vs defence.
I just happened to notice - as you do - a very good looking young lady in the SEJ yesterday. At the end of the game she exchanged waves with Motta. The one good thing about our Italian players - the've helped raise the top totty bar a fair few levels.
Please do remember that he was playing against a left wing back who is not good enough for St. Mirren or our reserves. Impressive so far yes, but much sterner tests to come. He does look like an upgrade on Paredes though, who has continued to disappoint in his time, not kicking on after the odd good game. I like the solidity of Motta, far more confident with him there.
