https://www.watfordfc.com/news/official-watford-reach-okoye-agreement. New goalkeeper joining in January, played over 40 Eredivisie games and 22 years old so imagine he's for the first team. Looks to be aerially dominant but shot stopping could use some work (based on stats alone - there could be other factors behind his lack of shot stopping)
The club should have just signed Yokunslu when they had the chance - bringing in Tufan and now this bloke just seem like attempts to compensate for missing out.
Ok, so regardless of how good he is or not, at this point don't do another fuccking full signing announcement only to go on to reveal that it's utterly meaningless, because they'll be with their current club until next season, and so we're still stuck with the two duds in a position it would be very impactful to upgrade. Once again, to me, this is an example of appalling optics from the club and just annoying numbskullery - frankly, given their love of non-communication, just don't tell us you've signed another goalkeeping apprentice who won't even be a Watford player for another nine months.
Apparently a £6m fee and few Eredivisie fans saying and one in particular saying and I quote “Fantastische keeper, 7 miljoen veel ste veel”
I like the video you've just put up, but jesus christ, we'd better be splashing the cash like it's going out of fashion in the January window proper if we're prepared to toss £6m on a player from a notably lesser league who won't even arrive in Watford this season.
Well, I am pleased that he is apparently fantastische, but I am disappointed 'veel ste veel' doesn't mean 'steal'
Oh great, so the only significant amounts of money we've spent this year have still only been on players who won't even really play for us this season and actually help keep us in the PL. Meanwhile, we continue to have other areas of the team requiring urgent improvement remaining neglected.
I wonder what this means for Dahlberg. Seems odd having two 22 year olds fighting it out for number one next season, ideally we'd have one of them on loan getting regular minutes. I guess it'll be a shootout between the two next pre-season, whoever impresses the most stays.
If we go down, would Dahlberg be deemed ready for a top end Championship club I wonder? Feel we'll definitely see him in the Championship next season, but I suspect maybe at a team with lesser ambitions than us
I think Bachmann will be off. Foster will probably retire unless he has a Gomes style change of heart. Okoye looks like he could well be a number one keeper, especially if we go down. Okoye, Dahlberg, Foster & Elliot next season’s keepers?
We’ve definitely got money to spend despite what people say, we just badly cocked up the recruitment again in the summer. But I like this type of deal, just hope we apply it in January but on the scale of they’re going to play now rather than in the Championship. But who will also play with us in the league below
If we go down then Bachmann will push for a move, his agent will tell him Austria's number 1 shouldn't be playing in the Championship which is fair comment. Foster's not interested in renewing. So I can see Maduka as 1st choice with Dahlberg as back up and Elliot for the experience.
Trying to think of an appropriate metaphor medically-speaking for this being comforting, but in the worst, least impressive way that it could be.
The main plus side to this deal is that he would instantly become a top contender for our most handsome player:
Going into a sword fight with a toothpick then magically finding a knife in your pocket. Still f***** but less f*****
Has the lowest pace ever in FIFA. If someone plays a through ball it’s going to be like a walk on lawnmower chugging out to address the situation!
He's going to love going from first choice in the Eredivisie to our 3rd choice and not playing a single minute of competitive football for three years.
I like this deal as he is only 22 and has experience at a decent level with potential. Unfortunately we won't get to see him until summer 2022. Just hope we're still a PL club by then.
Is it too much for us to ask for us to buy genuine, recognised, PL ready talent? It’s always a ‘he could be great and we have beaten a host of clubs to get him’ - which is almost always nonsense.
Why do you think that? And would that be that we had money to spend but thought the squad was good enough or we've got it but couldn't spend it as couldn't get our targets over the line?
The club. Delight at signing a well-rated prospect at a position of need, quickly turning to despair when you realize he won’t arrive until the summer, and probably has an escape clause if we go down. That’s what, 14 million odd on players who aren’t ready to play for us now, while Cathcart trots out week on week?
