If we're staying 352 then he's no better than what we have; actually he's not really all that great as a wing back. If we're going 442 then.. my first choice would be Murray and Anya out wide, so he's still no better than what we have. What he will do is add some experience around the place, and push the other players hard for a starting spot. Disappointed though if it means we don't keep Riera. I'll give Nani a 6.5/10 for this one...
I saw a reference that Riera was on a huge salary, that could be a reason as to why he won't be here next season
Not too sure on this one. Three year contract as well. However proven experience at this level and a good person to have in the dressing room. Will knock in 4-5 goals as well and set up a similar number. At least we are getting out business done early to prepare properly for the forthcoming season.
If we are to play 4-4-2 then we now have Pudil\Riera for left back and Dyer\Riera for left midfield. Faraoni\lloyd for right back and Murray\Anya for right midfield. I think this signing indicates the end of wing backs. If we do play 4-4-2 then we have plenty of central midfielders. Abdi, Tozser, Battochio, McGugan, Murray.
Good signs to show Nani may of learnt his lessons. Hopefully this kind of intent can keep Troy here.. Still haven't gone out and BOUGHT a player for a transfer fee. Can't wait to see who the first one will be.
Lloyd Dyer has obviously thought long and hard about staying at leicester for a year on assuming better money per year than we will be paying and then looking for another club for a couple of years or joining us straight away for the three year term. He has taken the later option which is slightly worrying as to me that sounds like we could do well out of him next season but the next to years expect him to be less productive Let's hope in three years time we will be lauding him and saying what a great signing he was and not regretting the day we signed him
Dyer is incredibly inconsistent. He plays one good game in five. Do we need another player like that? He'll be booed by September.
Thats why his playing championship football For me its a good signing, another pacy wide man that has championship experience. His the only player that I have seen get the better of Doyley on a consistent basis.
Friendly pah. Wolf in sheep's clothing I say, wolf in sheep's clothing. Or fox in Sponge Bob's clothing or whatever the allegorical comparison is.
There's only room for one Lloydinio.......so he'll have to wait for his time in the spot light. Excellent signing though, just the proven Championship quality we've been crying out for.
I genuinely can't believe I'm seeing some negative comments. Each to his own and the world would be a boring place etc. etc. but this guy has Championship experience, knows how to win, has got pace to burn, has hardly got injured in the last few seasons (although I get the feeling that the Leicester medical staff also had a role to play in that one), knows how to score and how to assist. Yes he isn't young and yes the 3 year contract we've given him might be too much, but if we get promoted in the next 2 years, we then have the opportunity to sell Dyer to a Championship club who might be willing to pay for him because of who he is, thus making a profit. Sannino's preferred formation is a 4-4-2 double 6 (I remember finding this out when he first came here) and with this signing it seems very likely that we'd be switching formations now- Dyer would definitely suit this formation. Also, he's related to Bruce blooming Dyer! How can you say no! Edit: If we do keep Anya, imagine Dyer and Anya on the wings. There'd be brown spots on the pitch and it won't be mud
Btw, Dyer getting portrayed as only having pace is wrong. Decent technically, very strong to go with his pace, can use both feet and gets in goalscoring positions. Also, his pace won't just evaporate after a season, although I can see us selling after 2, for...a profit. Again.
'We need to sign proven championship players' *sign a proven championship winning player* 'he's not the right championship experienced player I wanted' 'his contract is too long' 'what if his pace goes' Just no pleasing some people is there. I can imagine the whinging if it came to light that we missing out on him because we weren't prepared to commit him to a decent contract, the Pozzos would be accused of a lack of commitment etc etc etc.
Good signing I think. This season one thing we haven't had is an impact player off the bench, Dyer can provide that along with a bit of strength and winning mentality.
well said your exactly right ! on the face of the facts it seems a reasonable gamble . its yes from me .
I am friends with a man who has watched a lot of Leicester games over the past few years and he says they love him but all he really has is pace, can't use his right at all and isn't good technically. Not sure where you're getting your info. I do think he's a great winger though don't get me wrong. Has 10 assists or so this season, pace does create a LOT of space regardless of how good you are technically. If that's at me all I said is we need a defender who doesn't mind getting himself hurt aka will head a ball, don't think 'Championship experience' is a thing if a player is good enough.
I thought the Pozzos only gave 1 yr contracts to players over 30. This is a dramatic change or am I wrong ?
I wonder what Filbert would think? Oh, here we are, bottom comment: http://www.wfcforums.com/showthread...mours-nonsense-thread-(2)&p=952798&highlight=
Really happy with this if true He may not be the greatest player in the world, but he has pace to burn and has always played well against us when i've seen him Coming off the back of a season winning the league makes him a great asset mentally for the squad
From actually watching him myself, funnily enough. You're correct about his right foot though, my bad: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eb8NBR61ckc
Some of the negativity is just astonishing. Someone who played a huge role in his team winning the Championship last season, destroyed us at the Vic. He may not be good enough for the PL, hence only one-year offer from Leicester, but there are loads of players who fit that 'excellent in the Championship, can't cut it in the PL' category
Wow, so i've just caught up with the thread comments.... Last summer the foreign imports like Fabbrini, Faraoni and Acuna were going to 'destroy the league' and have us up by christmas. I had thought the majority of us had backtracked with our tails between our legs... and yet here we are complaining about the free transfer signing of an experienced, English winger who knows the league inside out, having played 46 times (10 goals, 8 assists) for the team who ran away with the title What an odd bunch of fans we have
Off the top of my head, I can't think of a better out-of-contract player who played in the Championship last season (apart from Nugent). Considering we came 13th last season, we've done very well to get him here. Wouldn't be surprised if clubs like Leeds, Forest, Boro, Ipswich were after him. Also, I'm sure I've someone say that he's decent at wing-back. Might have been Filbert?
