There is nothing to worry about, it is not as though we have signed a left back before, only for him to disappear and never to play for us...
Ironically Pudil looked very sharp last night. Seemed to have an extra yard of pace and got forward really well. Obviously Holebas will be first choice but Danny might do enough this pre-season to remain in the squad.
Great if Pudil has stepped up his game for the PL. It'd be great to have him as a backup option or at least provide competition
I'm sure we will see 3-4 players come in over the next few days. We travel to Germany on Monday so I would think that QSF wants the majority of his squad there for that with one or two more potentially coming in when we get back. I know that's a perfect situation and that very rarely happens as transfer can take longer than expected but just imagine traveling to Germany with Stambouli, Behrami, Doumbia and Britos. All we need to sort out after that is s new RB, a player to challenge Abdi for competition and possibly a winger. Many happy days are ahead of us and if we pull all that off, people will certainly stand up and take notice
Seems confirmed again in the Wobby. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/13381429.Holebas_completes_Watford_move/
Well that's not that much of a hardship for either of them. Better to meet your team mates, be introduced and see the home facilities rather than meet them on the tour. We now have two/three German speakers to act as translators too. If they speak English as well!
Holebas is a great signing. Tough, experienced just what we need. And so keen to be here!! When was the last time we had a left back who could do this v Inter?
Watford casually tweeted a photo of Holebas just now. It's as if they're saying "we always knew he was signing", yet at the same time, it seemed like it was a nod to the 'pics or it didn't happen' lot.
Well, he played yesterday, so I'd say the issue about his reported "I didn't sign" is over and the club was right in mantaining a dignified silence, awaiting for facts to answer to rumours.
I think whether they were right or wrong just comes down to personal opinion Sherlock. I think it's clear now given he wasn't at St Albans for the last friendly, when Capoue was, and the club continued to refuse to answer questions about him that something somewhere went awry. It's all sorted now though so we move on.
Watched again this morning, looking forward to seeing what he can do once up to speed, bags of pace, strong, whips a cross in Also who did the forever and creatures mix? Never heard it before.
Exactly. Imagine if they felt obliged to respond to all the histrionics and meltdowns on this forum they d need a whole new media dept.
Liked this little quote in the Wobbly: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...is_smart___he_ll_always_get_value_for_money/? "...while Bournemouth spent £8 million on 22-year-old Ipswich Town full-back Tyrone Mings, who has undoubted potential but has only made 56 professional appearances, Watford brought in Jose Holebas from Roma for an initial £1.8 million. Holebas is a Greek international, has played in the Champions League, was named Serie A left-back of the season and kept one of England’s finest full-backs, Ashley Cole, out of the Roma team during the last campaign. He knows what he is doing in the big leagues."
tbf muff are in catch 22 which most promoted clubs find themselves: established prem players won't sign for fear of relegation foreign players if they come at all will only be on expensive 1 year contracts championship players have over inflated prices and unrealistic wage expectations we are incrdibly lucky
Quite so. As GT used to say "The top players will go to the top 5 teams, the next tier down are too expensive and how can you be sure the ones below that are better than the players you already have".
I would rather wait and see how Holebas and Mings perform this season before passing judgement. However £8 million for at best a good championship player seems daft to me. Thankfully were fishing in a different pond than muff and naaarch!
Yeah I totally agree, Mings may turn out to be the find of the season, but just on paper at least the vast contrasting difference in experience and value is pretty huge. (But football is not played on paper, right?!)
Norwich don't seem to have got their tackle out yet, let alone fishing elsewhere. All I've seen recently is that Alex Neil complaining that he would have liked to have brought in more players by now. Maybe this is the reason why:
Holebas may also turn out rather Poo! However we also have the advantage that I'm pretty sure he'd get a game at udinese if it all went wrong. Hopefully both players turn out good for both sides
