On the one hand I can see the side of the moderators. Try being a referee with 22 grown men around you intent on calling you everything under the sun and you soon learn to sympathise with any authority figure going. I also don't know what's gone on behind the scenes so it's difficult to give an outright opinion. Some of the public stuff lately has seemed OTT though.

That said I'm inclined to agree with Kieran above. I know Jon outside the boards and although he can come across as intimidating on here he's a nice guy in the real world. I look forward to seeing him and the usual gang for a pint or two at Blackburn in April.

Maybe everyone needs to take a look at themselves after this one eh? I'm sorry but some people do need to grow a thicker skin and respond in kind rather than jumping straight for the 'complain' button on some issues. In my experience an awful lot said on message boards is tongue-in-cheek. Also remember this: any emotion you read into what someone writes is often your own, not the writers. I'm also sure our fledgling moderation team will learn from this experience too.

Anyway, it's a shame it's come to this but I hope we can move on from it.

Great post mate! I think a few people on here (they know who they are) need to look at themselves! They try their best to antagonise Jobr and to be honest he only snaps when people deliberatley try to wind him up! It was the same on the old boards!

On the official boards people were always telling me, Paddy especially, trying to keep the peace, that jobr was a really good bloke when you met him. But this is a message board and it really doesn't matter what anyone is like somewhere else.

It is a real shame that he can't get over this problem he has. Maybe some of you who know him can discuss it with him, but you have to admit he was losing the ability to reply rationally and the moderators shouldn't have to put up with being abused like that.

Agree with the second paragraph. I never use smilies normally but they do help on a MB to convey the spirit in which something is meant.

But when jobr 'went fishing' it was a great joke for all? It has to work both ways Bubble.

The moderators (if you can call them that) on the old boards were just ******* who CHOPED anyone they didn't like, with no explanation, in complete anonimity, just to make themselves feel big.

Goryholes went the same way for a while.

At least on here, the moderators look like they're trying hard to work for the forums benefit rather than their own little power complex's.

As I said afanof, some of the stuff of late has been OTT. I'm not making excuses for him on here - he's his own man. I don't see the point in moderator bashing myself, though I'll happily pick anyones argument to bits if I think it's rot. Moderator or not!

However, I do believe it does matter what someone is like somewhere else actually. I know that he's not half as bad as he get vilified on here for being sometimes. I'm sorry but it's just the truth.

Perhaps I should have said it doesn't matter what someone is like somewhere else if they are not like that on here?

He was OK for a long time, why does he need to stuff up like that by going OTT? There seems to be a huge chip on his shoulder about figures of authority. Does he carry that in the real world?

for those of us who have not meet jobr we only have this board to judge him. would he really be nice to someone who he did not like on here. if he is a nice person in real life why cant he be a nice person on here?

People are different in different circumstances. Think about all the cases of really nice guys who beat up their wives. They are not necessarily really bullies any more than they are angels... they are people who react differently at different times.

I judge everyone by how they behave towards me. It does not matter in the slightest how nice they 'really' are if they **** in my face every time I see them.

I don't know if I know Jobr... I'm an old time WML listee but have hardly been to Watford since 1998 since I live in the States now. But the reality is that if he behaved like an ass online, he should be treated like one online.

There are various studies that talk about how differently people behave online to in person. People are more expressive online (perhaps because they cannot rely on body language to get their emotions across) so they sometime behave more extremely online. On the other hand, people also read messages more literally since they cannot see the sender smiling as they write and so can take offense more easily. That's the joy of using smilies.

Good luck to everyone. Thanks to Jobr for his positive contributions and I hope to see more of them when/if he returns. Thanks to the Mods for responding appropriately to a problem and stopping it from escalating.

My only suggestion is to tell Jobr to ask for reinstatement on probation after the first month since two months is a little harsh. Or perhaps extend the month just by a single week for the attempt to re-register.

Nice-ness is relative aflynn. On a message board it's a perception that tends to change on something as little as whether someone agrees with you or not. I don't know whether he'd be nice to someone he didn't like on here, to put it how you put it. You'd have to ask him. Though to be honest I can say that I don't dislike anyone on here particularly. I have people in real life to dislike, it'd be pretty sad to start adding to that list with messageboard usernames now wouldn't it?

i can tell you have not taken his banning well. All i want to know is, why if he is a nice guy in real life, cant he be on here. it comes across as he likes a computer to hind behind.

Because you asked a valid question but had to have a little dig as well. I'm not going to rise to your bait and give you the satisfaction of a reply. If you're not aware you're doing it I suggest you view the underlined bits in the quote below as a guide...

Those comments are what i think, call it a dig if you like like, but the way i see it jobr is someone who likes to be rude to people on here, but not in real life what suggest he likes to hind behind a computer and act the big man. i think his issue is to do with be being liked he is nice to those on side, and at first he was nice to me, but then i disagreed with him and then instead of taking it well he turned on me it seems he has a problem with those who dont agree with him and like him.

I have to say the mods & Admin are doing a great job. The official boards were getting nasty & juvenile with little reasoned debate and many vicious attacks.
I don't want to get into the rights or wrongs on a particular individual or thread, I am very grateful that we have this forum & I can stay in touch with fellow supporters. For me, I'd love it if there were no personal attacks & no provocation just reasoned debate & the odd rumour, inside snippet & individual veiw points.
Jobr, you're probably reading this so stay quiet & hurry back after your suspension.
Admin, how about a poll to determin the length of ban then it will become depersonalised for you.
    Cheers from Canada!

    Congratulations Mods

I could not agree more with your last comment.

The "Official Board" would almost certainly still be here if jobr had been reined in as he has been on here.

IMO the problem jobr seemed to have, is that he seemed to be blissfully unaware that more often than not, he would critisise someone for something or other, then proceed to do the exact same thing himself, and think that it was perfectly OK for him to do it, but not the other person.

He became like a meglamaniac on the "Official" and seemed to believed he owned the board.

In one way he may have done us all a favour, as I find this forum far superior to the old "Official", so I thank him for that, and to be fair to him he has been much better behaved on here up until recently.

However, he has begun to slip into his old ways, and I am pleased that you moderators have stopped him in his tracks, as I say in my title, you are to be congratulated.

Finally some of you are saying that the ban is a bit harsh, well I do not think so. Especially the extra month, as he was warned the ban would be increased if he did not hounor it, and what did he do, he attempted to registar under another name.

Well done moderators, and keep up the good work :)

I can't comment on the banning, as I wasn't on here and can't be bothered to look back. However, the way he criticised the mods over the MK thread business he cannot have any complaint about being banned for another month given what he was told.

Jobr, Jon, is a friend of mine that I met through the old official boards but I have not spoken to him about this ban.

According to admin there was a lot of communication between the mods and Jobr that we have not seen. I think two months is a very long ban but that is completely in the control of admin and he calls it as he sees fit. Admin, in my mind, has been generous to set up this forum and does not want it to degenerate in the way that the official boards did; addtionally, he can not afford this forum to be used in anyway that may leave it liable to prosecution for any reason. If we know the rules and receive warnings then lengthy bans will be a strong deterrent.

I don't know if Jon has been given the opportunity to "change his ways" in order for the ban to be reduced - I am not sure he would accept as he is a very proud individual.

After a couple of days reflection I hope that Jobr would reconsider his position and that Admin would consider reducing the ban. For the bulk of the time Jobr is a great contributor to this site and it will not be as informative or funny without him.

Admin, if you read this I hope that you may make one last attempt to discuss with Jobr. If you want me to assist just PM or email me and I will chat with Jon.

One thing that no one can deny is that we are all here because we love our football club, so let's keep our common interests, hopes and aspirations to the fore rather than concentrate on our differences.

'people deliberately try to wind up jon'
to suggest that it wasn't his doing as a result of his often sporadic range of insults is a complete joke.

Wow, if only I had the internet at home! It seems like I've missed all the action. So Jobr's gone then. Personally I had no problem with him, but if Admin and the mods have made their decision I'm sure they've given it just thought and I'll stick by them. However 2 months is ages!

Maybe the Bookie could open a bet on it!!??

Here's my prediction for tomorrow, Young signs for Villa today, makes his debut tomorrow and scores a hat-trick and we lose 3-0! Only joking!

My bet is that he will be watching from the stands.

I think it was on this thread somebody said if we ran the old board it would not of be closed down, as i remember a few message board members became mods and they did a really bad. The mods on here have done a great job, and made the right choice.

I do like Jobr but you have to congratulate Admin on doing such an amazing job at creating a fantastic atmosphere on the boards (I'm not suck1ng up I'm being honest)

I also, similarly to DJStation, have got banned on the fiscal boards when I've been the one getting wound up, one time I couldn't log in for a year! they must have fogotten I was banned or my use of language must have been appalling!

I've just logged on and, blimey, what a shock. I've never had a problem with Jobr and frankly didn't really see much from him that warranted a ban but I have full trust in Admin and admire the public stance. I hope Admin reviews the length of the ban and settles thing with him because he is a very important part of the board community.

Most importantly what about the prediction league!!? One of the few times i turn out to be good at something and off it goes.. I guess i'll just have to take a screen shot of the final table for posterity unless Admin's going to run that too. (If we say please):)
